tribex, I'm getting my parts fitted to the GTR next week, and went down the same path as you are now. I remember reading a good thread by SK, the question was how to get 300kw@wheels on a GTR with $5000~... Though SK was realistic with his opinion, it was based on minimal $$outlay. If you decide, to go the whole hog, with new turbo's (either way, N1's GT2530, or SK Garret Equiv - MY opinion is stay away from hi-flows), you'll be making an easy 300kw+... below is what you'll need before you touch the internals, based on my due set-up, and a fair amount of research. ENGINE ECU: Apexi PFC (Hand Controller optional, but it's definatley worth having, and knowing what's going on with your engine) = $1500 CAM GEARS: Re-engineered stock Cam Gears (some prefer name brands, same thing but half the price) = $220 Change-over AFMS: Z32 AFM x2 = $320each w/plugs used (then you'll need adaptors made up) AIRBOX or PODS: Debateable, I currently have HKS Pods, but have the stock airbox and will fitting this in replace of the Pods... to be continued TURBOS: HKS GT2530 with 1bar HKS Actuators = $4000.00 EXHAUST: 2.5 twin fronts into 3in, stock cat then 3.5 from cat back = $1000 BOOST CONTROLLER: HKS EVC 4 = $450used INJECTORS: SARD 700cc = $700 (easy fit) FUEL PUMP: Nismo = $500 (easy fit) SK & others will say go the Bosch 044 coz it flows more and costs less, but I figured the when you add the extra work to fit the 044, it works out more than the Nismo, and most the Japs use it for more power than my target of 550-600hp. OPTIONAL DUMPS: Standard at this stage (Optional Trust Single Piece Dumps & Front Pipe) = $don't wanna know INTERCOOLER: Standard (Optinal Greddy 600x300x115) = $1500 CLUTCH: Around these power levels you'll definately need a new clutch, I'm going Twin Plate at least. = $2000 All up the cost is $9010.00 +fitting & tune. (excluding the Optionals) Options of DUMPS, INTERCOOLER, CLUTCH & PODS or STD AIR BOX, the cost for these would be add another $5000~ +fitting & tune That's all I can think of at the moment... I hope that gives you some idea of what's involved if you plan to go that extra stage, and replace your turbos. Your next step I guess is internals, lightened body and engine parts... etc etc EDIT: Nearly forgot - Thanks SK, SUSPENSION, SUSPENSION & MORE SUSPENSION.. to keep all this power to the ground you'll also need to consider SUSPENSION.. not included in the above, maybe SydneyKid can elaborate.

I remember reading a sensational thread by sydneykid "in the Suspension Forum" about the importance of a good setup. He also went into detail how important "shock / spring rates"...are! I sort of remember how he had a formula [i'm sure that doesn't suprise anyone ] on setting you rates, something along the lines of ... depending on the car front & rear weight ratio eg: 45 / 55 - then add ~20%, was how you determin the correct rate & most Japs Shocks/spring are rated around 500 which in his opinion was way too much. He also went into detail about the setup for rear wheel drives vs 4WD (gtr's).. probably do a search and see for yourself.

Water Injection...anybody running that?
meshmesh replied to S14Drift!'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Before I start, my knowledge re WI is moderate at the least, but have spent some time researching the topic. As I understand it, the "main" purpose for WI, is if you have or anticipate knocking because you either: 1. You plan to run higher boost than a standard FUEL tune will allow 2. Your using Low Octone fuel (91 as an exmple) On the positive side, even if you DO &/or DONT have knocking issues as above, WI allows you to safely retard timing, cools your intake and allows you to run higher "power tunes/boost levels" than using standard pump fuels regardless of their octane level. I had a discussion with a guy in US who has been involved with WI kits for a number of years with great success, about installing WI on the GTR. He felt it wasn't necessary for my particular set up, however did say that WI would still be a benefit either way. On the topic of spraying water over the intercooler he replied (quote) "it's like pissing on fan, & has no benefit".. I was a little confused by this & left it at that. The US are huge in WI kits, mainly because they have lower grade fuels (91 Octane).. I thought this can only happen if "like geoff said" - you dump a huge amount of water/fuel ratio?? Do I sense a contradiction here? On a final note, here's a link to a guy in the US who is infamously known as the King of WI. Many kits available today a based on his designs, and for the technical minded it's a fantastic read (spewing I didn't understand a word after the first sentance "hi my name is..."). http://members.cox.net/stevemonroe/AlcoholInjMod.html -

meshmesh replied to S14Drift!'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Try this method of controlling water injection.. alot more controlled as it uses the AFM readings to determin spray.. [if the link doesn't work let me know as it may need membership] http://www.autospeed.com/PTNR_www/cms/acce...l?buy=A&id=1539 PS: Geoff, I haven;t forgotten your offer, just got Nigel from ICE on my back saying NOWAY, DONT DO IT! So I see what he thinks next week when my mods get installed. -
Geeeeeeez, You guys are lazy.... all you had to do was a search. Here's the link http://lwells.techadmins.com/gtr_32_service_manual.rar [keywords - for lazy a$$'s next time] gtr service manual download pdf free meshmesh

Project: R32 GTR Daily Driver with Guts! Mods?
meshmesh replied to danstar's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi justinfox, The Mines GTR uses stock airbox, and funnily enough the Mines dump pipe isn't a split dump. I've got HKS Pods on my R33, and yes they sound loud, yes you can hear the blow off valves, but when it's hot you can really feel the loss of power. I just about to install my next stage of upgrades inc- GT2530's, SARD 700cc, Nismo FP (I can hear SK already - why pay 20% more for 15% less)..simple straight fit & the Mines car seems to be doing OK with 600+hp. I'm also going back the original airbox unit & snorkel with a KN filter, to see how it goes. I'll also be sticking with the stock dumps & IC.. however I am sourcing a Trust IC at the moment thanks to SK's formula, wisdom, advice that he bestowed upon mwa -
& Ive got the other one you need $270.00. see my post http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ad.php?p=732000

do a search... there's a thread Apexi Powe FC vs Wolf 3d, SydneyKid others have a good debate about the matter and talk about AFM v MAP aswell.

Using stock turbos you'll be lucky to get 250-270~@wheels. If you decide on upgrading your turbos "N1, GT2530 etc", then you'll hit 300+ COOL AIR EQUALS POWER... That's interesting, I'm so inclined to go with a Water Injection set up see www.h2oinjection.com (Not the water spray over the intercooler - although this will also help) working something out with skylinegeoff when I get around to it. Even though everything I read seems positive, my tuner is against it full stop. I would hazard a guess that if running on days of high temp the a water injection set up should help, the only thing that seems to be standard across the board is avoid running WI before the turbo "as this can damage the blades over time".. still looking into it anyhow.

no probs.

Between 200-250...

Hi maccattack, I'll quote SydneyKid, "Before I can work out whats best I need to know your hp target" I'm in a similar position at the moment, but as a guide, the SydneyKid flowbenched a stock gtr cooler & they are good for around 300kw at the wheels. Your next bet is the Greedy 600x300x115 using stock piping.

eYe'm n0t sure what you guys are on, but dis duz sound like w!ng session suited more for 3AW or 2UE... ('mon u guYS ARE Kid!ng right ? Like what the F*(k eYe will try some OV ur methods 2dayFM, and let U NO howdy doody eYe G I JO.

I bought it from DAVE on the forum, and never used it. It does however look very good, and I'm sure if anything was wrong DAVE would back it up. The pump will be around 200-250, the car is a series 3 98model, done about 70K, should be available around a week or two, permitting my Nismo pump arrives in time.

The SydneyKid appreciation thread
meshmesh replied to Bass Junky's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Although this sounds a little like an obituary.."god forbid" I'll throw in my 2.2cents inc GST. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hi Bass Junky, You Said "I would like to start a thread" I have tested this method using a biometric actuating meta-data analyser, and have come up with following formula.. URGENT THREADS: Use 49.1% Methanol and 50.9% Spit NON URGENT THREADS: 16.6% Spit 83.4% Vic Bitter, this is only if you cant remember the thread you were looking for, the technical term is also know as - Being Blotto - (I would recommend storing a 1ltr bottle of spit connected to your PC via USB/Firewire, and attach a waterspray kit similar to that from Autospeed) Bass Junky, You Said "To appreciate the acknowledge, guideance and wisdom that SydneyKid bestows opon us on a daily basis." We use a similar theory for track racing, when we are loosing I run around the track bestowing my appreciation, acknowledgement, guidance and wisdom to all opposing competitors, by using a few formula's I created: A= Grab the biggest mofo mirror you can find, aim it at the sun & point it in their eyes. this has proved to work effectively, in the case this fails, we use alternative plans of attack. B= Dump some oil in their path (just make sure your driver knows were you dumped it.) C= One of crew dresses up as a marshall and waves the black flag D= Cut across the track and ram the crap out of the other competitors until your in first place. Hi MIC33R, You Said "yep, without SK, I wouldn't know half as much as I now do about Skylines or even cars in general." I'd like to start with the reason why you didn't know that much. I have pretty good success using this formula to determine the reasons; Brain in lbs per minute = diameter of cells in mm X knowledge correction factor So let's apply it to you; 300kw @ the brain = 480 brain power 480 brain power = 44 lbs of airflow = 44 mm of brain Now if you want to run 19 psi of air through your mouth, then that's means you'll need to read that amount of my threads. But we need to apply the brain boost correction method.... My experience indicates that to get 300kw @ the brain, out of a newB sau member you would need to run around 1.5 bar (22psi). So using the formula... 44 / 22 X 19 = 88mm of brain. In other words, you're only half way there. Summing up, I think you guys have a numbers of problems, mainly your mouths are to small to soak up the grog and your fat % per capacity intake is too much, So you guys get Blotto on the smell of grog. To bypass this I would recommend springing your "mouth" using a 2bar mouthgate & attach an non returning blow off valve through the anal passage. Hope that makes sense. Lastly this message is dedicated to SK, thanks to you and many on SAU for your contributions. __________________ I pretend, I don't own or work for a workshop But I do know everything -
