  1. Oh and if you aren't aware water is the more efficient cooling substance - so if you are concerned about engine temps not oil break down temperature issues then it's the water coolant circuit you should look at.
  2. Good clarification, concur when you mod a car you need to look at associated/supporting mods - never ending spiral. Just want people who are thinking of starting out, serviced car with extinguisher is pretty much all they need to attend a "come and try" type event. If they enjoy it, start pushing themselves, more track oriented tyres/pads/fluids... suspension.... braking/power/cooling etc etc. Richo, unfortunately the fully covered clothing regulation is preventing me running in my pink tutu
  3. Whereas my Silva went years of serious track abuse with stock rad and no oil cooler - did eventually do a head gasket though :-) When i did put in an oil cooler, i wanted it in line rather than in front of a tyre, so water temps actually went up. Personally ĺ'm all for newbies to not worry, get the fire extinguisher and get out there. You tend to drive like a fairy to start with so nothing too strenuous on the car. Just careful as it goes type of thing.
  4. $? As well as BC, MCA etc DMS have a street range http://racingready.com.au/v2/?p=1677
  5. Is it fair to blame Ohlins if their Japanese partner lets them down. JDM specific cars/components are now spread around the world but it would seem Ohlin's Japanese partner is unable to supply their JDM bespoke components to Ohlins global support network?
  6. My s14 Reds arrived to replace leaking BC ER, the extenders weren't too difficult to cut, tin snips were able to make clean cuts. MCA recommended base height is nearly an inch higher than my BC setup with parallel susp arms, leaving as recommended for now. They have same 180 spring length but MCA front springs have 10mm of free play/slop the BCs didn't - can't wait to find out if this will result in anything audible. Alignment in new year then we'll see how it compares on road, PI will be a couple of months away for the track comparison.
  7. BTW, are the rear adjustment extenders wire coils that you trim with something like tin snips/big pliers?
  8. Right you are Tein CEO and I'm your senior product manager. "Hi boss we've just developed a new adjustable shock, it has an operating range of 0-10 clicks, any more and they go bang. I've decided to release them with 0-15 clicks to see if users read the instructions" Do i still have a job?
  9. Were those from Carrozzeria or Sweden, if latter you'll have ohlins local support, if former buy a new set?
  10. I'm presuming your shocks don't click (one of my BCs did that),How many degrees full soft to full hard / number of clicks they are meant to have = degrees per click then go from there
  11. As much as you'd hate it, believe the idea is not to open the bonnet (same principle as opening fire doors) aim the extinguisher through gaps and vents. And walk away when it is set as hot gas enclosed spaces/containers tend to go bang
  12. How did you go at Wakefield, enough runs to get the dampers set up to your liking?
  13. I did, believe I've still got the d-lock and cable in the bottom of the tool tray for just those occasions
  14. You'd really want personal experience to go against a recommendation from a person whose business is suspension. Just ask what spring options will work the proposed suspension valving you're buying and you can always swap/purchase different springs that your valving can cope with after driving the car a bit. Obviously if you want to go outside this range, you'll be up for rebuild.
  15. Enjoy experimenting with shock settings at Wakefield. Doh, you've just reminded me, time to remove the bolt in cage for decent access to the rear parcel shelf.
  16. I find it strange, you have stuff like this saying you need big brake kits etc but standard brakes can cause tyres to lock up, you need the tyre surface friction to use that BHP, ie excellent tyres/suspension. can't find the technical link but seat of the pants suggests it is true, standard brakes are +1000bhp, they haul ass compared to the engine pushing. I didn't go bigger brakes for more stopping power on the street, main reason was for more thermal mass etc as I went through a set of racing pads after 2 sprint events. Yes modulation etc etc but lets face it lap times come from greater corner speed, greater engine horsepower - braking 3 meters later makes diddly squat, few thou - so much to be made elsewhere
  17. I quite liked his dad but Nico, bah, so what if he tries to smooch his garage, he's still lost two seasons in a row. I concur Lewis is shallow and his post race answers are contrived bullshit but he's been the better driver and when DC asked Nico about catching up for a post race dinner date, Nico still came out like a sulk even though he'd won the race, he knows Lewis would slap him with the championships. What we need is less contrived shit, less personality contests and more race entertainment from an improved Ferrari, RB, etc. M2cs. Ah the olden days when it was mechanical grip and Jim Clark four wheel drifting.... :-)
  18. As I'm not picking up a trophy, I say go for it :-)
  19. Sorry I'm out, I've been advised by my social secretary that I'll be relaxing in Apollo Bay.
  20. Dave, what a big round to miss when leading by 1pt leaving Aaron to clean up. So is the final championship being updated - How many rounds get dropped this year?
  21. My suspension broke at PI and not fixed yet - looking to get it sorted for Sandown in Jan. Richo, good idea, always handy when DECA gets scheduled next to another event to make the journey all the more worthwhile.
  22. You mention BCs, did you have BCs previously and tracked the car(were they the wakefield times mentioned?) I've been running BC ERs with separate comp/rebound adjustability but a shock blew at PI the other weekend, I have to check in to this a bit more but it looks like $600 just for replacement canister(and other 3 could go anytime) therefore looking at buying a new set. Hence very interested in track feedback from people who have run both BC and MCAs rather than people who've just got MCAs from OEM etc or read about how good they are.
  23. Also concur with Roy, so many things can result in a loose rear, v hot curry etc but as the OP mentioned running K-sport front brakes, std rears I'll ask a couple of questions. Did you experience a loose rear prior to k-sports going on? Has anything else changed since K-sports went on? Changing Fronts and not rears can definitely mess balance up. - if you increase front braking power only you increase weight transfer lightening the rear - the ratio of total piston volumes can change some specs of BMCs http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2445116 I know from personal experience, I upgraded my fronts rotors only(piston volume was same), suspension setup remained the same, I noticed a looser rear end. For now I firmed up my suspension, still playing around with how much front and rear but it's helped for now. Had a shock blow a seal so concentrating on other things at the moment.
