  1. Similar thing happened to me with my stagea a few years back (wrtten off in an accident that was deemed entirely the other drivers fault) I dealt with the other drivers insurance exclusively, and when they came to take the wreck I just told them that it was still my property, and they couldnt take it. Legally they were paying for my repairs, not my car. The argument dragged on for a couple of weeks, but we eventually settled on a nominal salvage amount to be deducted from the value of the vehicle. The funny thing was, after I had sold the wreck privately, the stagea became the only car I have ever made a profit on!
  2. I was wondering how long before someone mentioned the hairspray trick but yer, the tyre will be borked for sure. I got a flat at 100kph in the wifes shopping trolley, and by the time I had stopped, the bead had slipped off. As soon as I took the wheel off, I could feel a weak spot in the sidewall all the way around the tyre, just by poking it, and it had done a maximum of 100m off the bead.
  3. Running rich or lean wont reduce any of the nox in your exhaust (the biggest thing they chase on an emmisions test) Only thing I know of, that will help, is to get the cat as hot as possible, as quickly as possible. Best way to do this, is to get the cat fitted as close to the turbo as physically possible. Pretty sure leaning it right out will actually increase some of your emmisions, so be careful with that. And there is no way any reputable place would do an emissions test wit no air filter. Have you thought about putting the airbox back on, and slipping a K+N panel filetr in there? The arent the best filters on the market, but they def flow a buttload more volume than the std paper ones.
  4. If you try and get it from Nissan Australia you might want to bring your own lube, because they will charge extra for it when they go to insert the pineapple, rough end first. If you have, or can get, a genuine part number, try these guys first http://www.amayama.com/ I recently sourced some strut top isolators for my datsun 1200 ute. Nissan aust wanted $130 each for them, and told me I had about 6 weeks wait for them to arrive. One email to them guys ^ and I had 2 of them sitting on my doorstep, 9 days later, at a grand total of $31 each, delivered.
  5. Jonno - I am yet to get the focus over to you for its detail, but maybe it would be worth showing you the genuine 2 owner datsun 1200 ute I picked up for $3K? Sure, its not a ground pounder, but with a few bucks dropped into the front end for ball joints etc, and a good service, it is without a doubt, the most fun car I have ever driven, and when it cops the dogleg 5 speed and 32/36 weber in the next few weeks, it will be even more fun My point is, dont be afraid to go for an early car. Datsuns in particular have a massive cult following, and I can buy pretty much any part I want off the shelf. Even hand made replacement panels for rust repairs etc are all available on ebay, and the car specific forums have SO much info on them, I reckon its the best way to get your hands dirty and learn some stuff about cars there is.
  6. Gonna be driving to melbourne and back in dec, just coz. Sydney (and bathurst) will be my next one. Everyone reckons you have to do it at least once.

  9. f**kheads on gumtree (and the like) that buy something, then relist it a couple of weeks later at twice what they paid for it. It is arrogant, stupid and just plain rude.
  10. So, anyone up for brekkie this week? August 3rd same time, place etc?
  11. I only did 650km "for fun" on Sunday mang. The other 350km was done on Friday night because I wanted a chilli dog
  12. Damn!! Thats pretty harsh treatment for someone who has probably generated more sales for them guys than their own sales team. Over the years, I have come to trust your judgement on these things bard, so thanks for the heads up. Guess I will stick to Michelins for a few more years then eh?
  13. Head to Bunbury, then go Donybrook, Balingup, Nannup, Donelly River, Bridgetown, then back to Bunbury via Balingup, or head out to Boyup Brook, cut through Collie via Mumbalup, then Southwest highway as far as Waroona, up to Nanga Rd and home via Dwelligup. I get pants tent just thinking about that run
  14. Sif hitler would have settled for anything less than the instant street cred you get from rolling a datto 1200
  15. Do non-skyrines count?
  16. No, I am pretty sure it was actually that you SHOULDNT put 22's on a skyline
  17. Just going back to the pulsar suggestion, I used to have an N15 SSS and I would quite happily belt out close to 1500km in a weekend in that thing. With a decent tune and a new 02 sensor the SR20DE would regularly turn in about 6.5lt/100km on the highway. I could also take the wife, 2 kids and a boot load of luggage for a weekend jaunt, and I would even leave the swaybars on the "hard" setting with no issues. In 3 years I put over 100 000km on that little tacker, spent more than a few track days getting up to shennanigans, and generally getting on the SAUWA guys nerves at any given chance and if it hadnt been destroyed by a stupid bitch in a CRV running a red light, I would doubtless still be driving it innapropriate distances, so dont dismiss all the smaller cars out of hand. But if comfort is your driving motibvator, just go for the longest wheelbase you can get.
