  1. Thanks Sparki that would be of interest lemme know if you could mate! Damn a-b that's a hoooooge difference. I mean JustCars said a bit over $5k. I mean I'm happy with a big excess but smaller premium I mean bah!! 3k might MIGHT be swingable but hm I mean.. The funny thing is I got a quote from NRMA today - cos I do have a V8 but it's not a senator (no offense I wouldn't buy any holden v8.. or fords for that matter that are after 1975). 1969 Ford Falcon GT replica 351c
  2. Oh .. I should probably say that's probably the final straw in putting the nail in the coffin of my skyline. I'm too scared it will get stolen - if I was buying it without a crazy big loan it may not have been such a big issue but I ain't paying X amount of years of my life to pay for something after it's been stolen/crashed into/written off/burnt/alien abducted whatever... WAY TO GO WORLD ... just jaded me .. from now on I'm going to kick old ladies, steal from donation plates and kick people while they're down!! ... wait that gives me an idea.. maybe i should become an insurance company?
  3. That's lucky. I just called Robyn at Famous - They won't insure people who've lost their license twice (maybe she said once I don't know but definately not me). She told me to call Unique Cars. They also laughed at me they won't insure anyone who's lost their license once. On the bright side she said there may be a tiny chance I can get insured in 2 years... I've learnt - why won't they believe me ? I mean.. how many people who are me have lost their license go off to write off a car. (edit - don't answer that I just realised probably a lot) I only want insurance incase some nutcase without rego writes my car off or it gets stolen and I'm willing to install a quik trak.. FFS!!!!
  4. Does anyone know about this? I've just looked at http://www.quiktrak.com.au and they are apperantly in administration! WHAT THE ?!?! Sparki_D - have you heard anything from them as a customer?
  5. Cereal still selling the subs? Are you in Sydney? (edit: wait can see that you are)
  6. Sorry 2rismo it's just that their disclaimer warning is quite... well I know it's legally required but it's scary enough to put anyone off. I know there is a sticky about this and a number of people have got their claims paid so I guess that's the best I can do. What are the benefits of being a SAU member? I was going to join WHEN I got my car, not before but if it's going to get me cheaper insurance I will join 2weeks earlier so I can have my number. (And YES I was going to join anyways heh). Cheers 2rismo. I don't know if I'm going able to sleep tonight. If I can get reasonable insurance I will get a skyline, if I can't ... I'm 'fraid it's a deal breaker/ship sinker. :headspin:
  7. OMG Sprinter!! I have no idea what ... or who you did but GODDAMN that's some lucky stuff man good on ya! Put it this way. I've had my license suspended twice. I'm 21. They wanted $5.2k as I said. I ticked about 60% of the boxes in the modifications option. I asked what if I had a 4 door with NO mods they said $4.7 with $2.2 excess. Now you're going to say that the premium and excess is because I'm a hoon, should be arrested - well let me tell you not everything is blank n white - especially when you piss off the wrong people. ... anyways that aside. My flatmate (ie the quotes were for the same address) has a SPOTLESS, and I mean spotless driving record, not even a parking ticket and no mods. $4800 and $2100. I mean WHAT THE... I'm sorry but my theory is the insurance companies are in bed with the car manufacturers and it's basicallly - don't get an import and go #$)( yourself. 2rismo - I will definately call them tomorz. I'm not sure about this underwriting in UK business. I mean.. not subject to APRA/IEC/ASIC is pretty *hmmm*. I work in the finance industry at a AFS (australian financial services) licensee and everyone has told me they wouldn't touch them. Then on the other hand - beggars can't be choosers ay and I have seen here have claims from them. All I'm interested in is theft and people with no insurance crashing into me (their fault), I'm a responsible driver now and have no reason to believe I will need to claim (if at all) for any other reasons. As everyone I know says - insurers don't care if you're good or what... it's all about actuarials. :bs!: Famous wil be my last hope
  8. Sweet thanks for that - but on the quik trak website it doesn't have any mention of calling them to install it? Do they even deal with the public? I saw on the NRMA website "CarWatch 1300 364 446 CarWatch $1896.50 (including 1 year monitoring" I thought carwatch was a quiktrak based product? Now I'm confused but boy I'm angry about this insurance crap - this may be a better choice.
  9. Gday, I am a heart broken man. Insurance quote from the only aussie company that would insure me is a touch over $5000! The premium, depending on the actual damage is $2000-3000 MINIMUM. :bs!: That's only for insuring for $20,000. So much for insurance for these things.. where can I get me a quik trac and who will install me one without a factory alarm system fitted? Anyone had any experience with these systems?- Black widow tracking, loctronics, ming car watch and carwatch? THAT MAKES ME ANNNGRRRYY!! *sob*
  10. Gday, thanks for the reply. ex japan? 'sin take money to get one imported and complied? if so, what kind of kilometre-age are expectable? what sort of price range (landed+complied) is expectable, and how often do 4 door manual r32's come up? Also what sort of mods can be expected on average? Obviously I'm looking for educated guesses/estimates - not quotes or specifics because it's hard to say but I would appreciate a ballpark figure. Thanks again.
  11. Ahh sweet as - wasn't aware of any of that. Damper is the rate at which it depresses isn't it ? This is definately the thread I've learnt the most on - thanks for the insight it gives me enough of the basics to learn more on the other threads!
  12. What is the wrms?
  13. Thanks Ant thats a very detailed and insightful response! Exactly the type of stuff I was after - I appreciate it mate it gives me a lot to think about! Are there any specific advantages to having coilovers with all those settings adjustable in the unit ? ie does it save you money as you don't ahve to get other parts or is it very much application specific ?
  14. I'll chop that in my barina. .... it's good for about 36km/h. WOoop!
  15. Must be good condition with no accidents. Pref. Sydney. Either '89 non-complied (ie. going to land and can be complied under 15yr +) or r32 complied already under old scheme. ORRR complied under new scheme under 10yr rule with a price that competes with the former two. Whysit so hard to find a 4 door... then whe you find one it's auto!
  16. Is this still available? email [email protected] please (quickest way to reach me)
  17. Same details please. How many km's and history of car?
  18. Spooks - THAT IS MADDDD !!! love it! love the colour! what kit do you have on that?
  19. Hello, Thanks for your suggestions! gtst89 - Remap is like a replacement chip isn't it ? Thanks again guys!
  20. Hello, I'm still waiting on a r32 to come in (somewhere in the pacific ocean) - and as many have probably noticed I been asking alotta questions recently. I've so far decided on these mods almost straight away - - 3" pipes - dump pipe, hi flow cat, exhaust. - lightened flywheel with 'organic'(?) clutch/heavy duty clutch - whiteline the works kit plus pineapples and possibly the options (don't know if the options are too hardcore.. advice please?) - CAI + airbox - 1.5 LSD + HICAS lock kit (do i need the lock kit if i have the LSD?) - FMIC - still deciding if it's necessary .. apperantly it's not necessary for the power that I'm looking for - engine management of some sort - standalone or piggy back still no idea The use of my car will be - - road use (sleeper, no BOV or crazy huge bodykits but focus on handling and enjoying to drive) - occasional track days - would definately love to go and play on the track with you guys out there - light drift fun - can't realistically drift on the road and can't realistically afford the tyres but would like to rip it up on a track day if the opportunity arises. I recognise the fact I can't setup for drift and expect the best performance on road where 90-95% of the driving will occur so I would lean towards street setup. Future upgrades to car (on top of these listed) - - mild cams? - bore? - bigger turbz or hi flow? Ultimate aim - - Have a real grand tourer - Torque .. i used to drive a 351. High range vs torque gimme torque please!! - Not crazy fuel consumption ... so crazy injectors and hardcore boost etc are out - Good tune. ie. setup the car to get the most from what you have. I can't just throw money at it to fix the problems cos I don't have the money If anyone still is reading (thank you!) ... my questions are - 1. What ECU should I be looking at (to achieve what I have defined)? My head hurts from reading this forum about this topic.. it seems application (as it should) decides what system people chose. I was initially looking at the apexi pfc because everyone has one (safety in numbers). But the e-manage seems to have a lot going for it. I have a laptop and don't like the fact that apexi tuners need crazy-proprietry software). What should I be looking at getting? 2. Aftermarket turbz vs hi flow? I'd like torque. I don't care for figures on dynos (although they are nice). I drive on the road but I would like track car behaviour with road economy sanity thrown in. I'm not sure if that makes sense but could someone suggest something to get power? Also what would I need to upgrade in the engine for safety of engine/peice of mind? 3. Suspension I think the whiteline kit, from reading and from looking seems to the best. It seems to be a whole package that does very well (even comparing to what one could shop for seperately) and it seems like it could be tweaked for the future (ie. should I get different wheels or something). What is everyone's opinion of this? Would it be better to buy the parts seperate? I LOVE handling and I LOVE cars that reward drivers for technical driving. Thank you for reading if you have made it this far. I really appreciate any constructive input and advice. I have lurked on these forums for a long time before posting - but in the end I think what I have learnt the most is that everything differs on application, and so I'm hoping to learn to make my own decisions so one day I don't have to be spoonfed. Anyways - thanks again for reading this. PS - I should probably say is 200kw too much to be looking for just to street around ? (I think that's where I'd be aiming.. jsut enough to take off on v8's at track meets and STIs etc but not to kill myself/get arrested) ta! :headspin:
  21. I used to get pulled over (no joke) atleast once every 3 weeks in a car that had bonnet pins. Noone ever even mentioned them. I was going to get bonnet pins on my r32 - I will have to clarify this because I don't think they are illegal if you have your factory catch in place. And as for them being a wank - it's easier for racing/track where extra restraints are required instead of a peice of rope or whatever else people use. Maybe I never got defected because the car I had some came stock with bonnet pins.. HMM interesting.
  22. Spooks - I've got my heart set on a 4door. Have any pics?
  23. Do you need a proprietry cable or does the apexi have something standard to plug into lappies?
  24. I'm not in japan but when I go there I hope to see some street drifting How do you become self-employed in japan ? I'd like to know - this sounds better than my life atm
