The Clutch Thread - FEEDBACK PLEASE
Emre replied to raist60's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
SK, Some multi plate clutches require a shortened thrust bearing carrier. ORC and HKS are the two brands i witnessed this with. Nissan make different length carriers as well. I've never altered my pivot points as it creates more complications as you've mentioned. Lunatic Dancer, I think you may have mentioned out too much from the carrier which is ending up reducing your throw. Did you try giving the system a good bleed...? -
Redline website has an oil recommendation menu. Do not use shockproof light in the rear diff. I use Castrol Formula R 10W60 with the Nissan oil filter.

Heh… I think you are the confused one here mate. You’ve made a generalized, stereotypic comment about americans being useless pricks , re : Cosworth. 2weeks down the track, you are still trying to defend it by making ridiculous statements to support your argument. YOU are debating that issue, because it blends in nicely with your argument. I put it to you that, you can't judge a team's (or a nation's) worthy performance by their results in a single calendar year. What a condescending attitude you have ! Let me explain it to you. In one statement you are branding Cosworth as the only reliable component for Jag; in another, you are saying Cosworth is the only thing holding Jag back. If that is not contadictrary, i don't know what is. Obviously, in your mind, having 2 rookie drivers and a new tyre manufacturer on board, do not have much to do with things. The team performs admirably in all areas but the engine holds them back. Is that because, americans are useless pricks...?
-
Oh, so going by your criteria, Honda and Renault are useless in F1 as well as Subaru in WRC. Toyota must suck in JGTC too, as they haven't won it since 1999. How about that Nissan @ LeMans...? Why do they bother, the useless pricks...? I don't know whether you have or not, but i would encourage you to read up on Cosworth a little and appreciate their involvement in motorsport in the past 4-5 decades. Can you name me one manufacturer that competed in F1, ChampCar, WRC, Nascar and even MotoGP as well as over a handful other motorsport categories. I am not trying to convert you to become a Cosworth fan here, but making the point that they deserve a lot more credit than they get on this board. Just because they've been involved with Ford for a number of decades and currently owned by Ford may give the impression that they are rather dull and pathetic. You, yourself admitted to this. The fact is, their engineering, design and build are exceptional and they have the facilities that many others don't. I don't claim to know anything about the accounting side of Cosworth, but what you are saying does not make sense. Most of the R&D is done on the Jag engine and i'd doubt if there is any current R&D in Minardi's one. They are using an older engine which makes further R&D on it rather pointless. They don't collect thrice the revenue of Ferrari for their engine program, their revenue is tied with the supported teams' budgets. They do have a less budget than Ferrari, BMW and Toyota's engine department but this doen't make them a lesser manufacturer. Your argument is based on speculation. Now, this is a ridiculous comment. Mate, it's allright to have an opinion, but i just have to ask : What exactly are you basing that opinion on...? Is it a gut feeling...? It is well publicised that chassis, suspension and aerodynamics of the R5 is still under development. Even Michelin have tons of work to do, in order to catch up with Bridgestone. Considering you said "Im fairly certain that Jag uses the CR6, proven to be the only reliable component of the car for Webber " earlier on, i'd have to say that you're just contradicting yourself.

If you are only looking two years back in F1, the results aren't there. They still do not deserve to branded useless for it. As you said the results speak for themsleves and their achievements are on the board in a greater time period. Jaguar, Jordan and Minardi, not Cosworth, have a less budget than the top teams. Cosworth just builds the engines which are only as important as tyres in a race meet and not as important as the chassis setup. So, if you are blaming Cosworth for the lesser teams' lack of race wins, i suggest you read into it a little more. Jaguar, Jordan and Minardi are a lower budget F1 team compared to Ferrari, Williams, and McLaren. That, i don't have a problem with.

Right abour what...? Cosworth being useless or American...? Cosworth USA only services US based racing events. Cosworth UK services the rest. Both of them have been very succesful in the past. So, i'd have to say that you were wrong on both counts. Re Jags engine: Cosworth referres to it as the CR5, Jag-Racing refers to it as the CR5 and CR6. Needless to say, we are talking about the same engine which is different to what Jordan and Minardi uses.
-
Jack, mate, Why do you bother replying to these kind of dickheads...? Obviously, their main aim is to stir you and this board up.
-
Cosworth was founded and is based in UK, however, because of their heavy involvement in Champcar and Indycar racing, they have a facility in US as well. That is a bit of an understatement today, as all the teams in Champcars have been using the Cosworth engine since 2002. They were bought by FORD a few years ago, which is why they may be considered as a US company today. In F1, Jaguar uses the CR5, Minardi uses the CR3 and Jordan uses the RS1 engines.
-
Cosworth is British and their achievements in any form of racing can not be scoffed at. They supply three F1 teams (Jordan, Minardi and Jaguar) with engines, albeit they are all different to each other. Jaguar's engine is a brand new design and still under some sort of development. They only had 1 engine failure this season and it was electrical. Webber still managed to finish 13th in that race. Michael Schumacher won his first championship driving a Cosworth powered Benetton in 1994. Enough of Cosworth, where did those power figures originate from...? Do they have dyno graphs...? :bahaha:

Come on funkeh.... Hardly a fair comparison, totally different lighting conditions. Joel, Car covers are a real pain in the neck. They are only good for storage or cars that don't get driven very often. I am betting on you cracking the shites after a week.
-
Come on Merli, This is not too shabby for a single coat.

Anyone tried one of these B&M Shifters ??
Emre replied to B-Man's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Can someone comment on how much it reduces the throw...? I have driven a car with a %30 reduction in throw, and while it was amazingly precise, the crunches became a lot more prevalent. If your box already has the 'wornout syncro' problems, a short shift kit will only make the matters worse. I am interested @ that price. -
What he said. Heh... Has anyone seen a $3000 custom exhaust from Eric... Laughable describes it best. I will stop here. I wish people stopped living in 1991 and move on to 2004.
-
Ha haa... I feel for you Matt. Those Nittos will straighten you out with some practice mate. As you know, it's all relevant. We are talking about modified GTRs compared to stockish ones.

1.4 bar pump fuel got me a best of 11.49@120.5 mph. 60 foot was 1.73 Best mph on pump fuel is 124.5. How is Calder these days. I always say to myself "will never come to this shithole ever again" but end up going again. When i was there last, i managed only 4 runs and theye were all over an hour apart.
-
Good effort Jack, well done mate. As you noticed, it gets a little harder from here on. The car is harder to launch, because you have more power and a very grippy clutch. The only thing that will give now is the traction which will hurt your 60 footers. With my stock GTR i could get 1.7, 1.8 60 footers very frequently, now it's a challange to nail them. If you can scan a couple of slips, post them up.
-
Nah, i don't mate. But here is what i collected from the internet and some magazine articles. Oh, i also attended a dyno day once. Hayabusa has a compression of 11:1 and redlines at 10900 rpm. How long do you think, in between rebuilds...? Here is the point : You can't compare engines on power outputs alone. Here is another point : They didn't want to, they were too busy making profits. Actually, i don't have anything better to do. How about you...? Don't you have any school work...?
-
Do you want to stop hijacking the thread or do you want me to show you your "utter nonsense"...? It still amazes me how advanced japanese engines are, the XR6T is a 4.0 L turbo. Making 250kw. GTR engine is only 2.6, and is very close to 250kw, even tho its stated to be 206 Hayabusa makes 114 kw from 1.3 litres. Those Japs are far too advanced. 15 years later, ford releases a 4L engine and its only making similar power... Did you want it to make 400kw...? But the RB26DETT made alot closer to 250kw on standard boost, not 1 bar. No it didn't. So what if there isnt a justifyable market for turbos in australia, Ford is one of the, if not the biggest and most profitable motor company in the world, therefor you would think they would be making the most technelogically advanced cars available. See my post above Ford and holden are too concerned on making there heavy cars go faster. They need to design lighter cars and then they will wreak havok. See my post above. This is getting way too repetitive. If you like to go around circles, go to an amusement park and hop on a merry-go-around.

Anomaly : Deviation or departure from the normal or common order, form, or rule. Haven't you watched Matrix...? Here are some factory outputs for you : DOHC 2.6 litre running 0.6 bar = 4.16 litre = 206 kw DOHC 2.6 litre running 1 bar = 5.2 litre = 250kw DOHC 4.0 litre running 0.35 bar = 5.4 litre = 250kw DOHC 2.0 litre running 0.6 bar = 3.2 litre = 160kw I must have been duped, my GTR only had about 206kw from the factory. Farken Nissan ripped me off ! Did you read my post above...? Have you heard of the Sierra Cosworth and RS500 that came out in 1986-87...? Don't feel so privileged. Only your utter nonsense draws attention, not much else. Ford owns Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Lincoln, Mercury and a percentage of Mazda. In the meantime, Nissan had to sell %15 of its' shares to Renault to survive. Ford Australia stopped producing all performance vehicles in the 80s and didn't even produce V8s till the 90s. They never had a bail out from the government. In the meantime, Nissan Australia closed its' doors in Australia and are importing every car from Japan. Mitsubishi Australia is about to follow the same route. Hmmm... Why do you think that is...? Nissan started concentrating on 4 door sedans lately, i wonder why...? Maybe they don't want to sell another %15 to Renault in 3 years time. Ford have been involved in Indycars, World Rally and F1 for years, where does Nissan stand in the world of Motorsport...? I am a Nissan man just as much as you are, i've owned Nissans for the past 15 years. That doesn't mean i should spit out shite like you have been. Take your blinkers off and look around once in a while.

It's cool Jack, i know what you are getting at. My point is, why see a power figure or a boost level and get fixated on it...? Without knowing any of the other variables, figures are just that : figures. Don't forget, it is a business funded car promoting that business. summoner, Good on them all mate, but they are not the only ones that are doing it. There are workshops getting big hp on pump fuel across the country. Are you insinuating that, the Perth boys are a step ahead...? Cause that's the feeling i get from some of the posts, hence the reason i put that remark in ( ) in my previous post.
-
2.6 litre DOHC making 206 kw on 9 psi, or 250 kw on 14.5 psi. 4.0 litre DOHC making 250 kw on 5-6 psi. What is wrong with those figures...? I don't see an anomaly. Apart from the peak power figures of the two engines, there is not much alike. One is a torque monster with maximum torque available from just about idle. The other is a high revving alternative with not much under 3500 rpm. Ford didn't start building turbocharged engines last year, there just wasn't a justifiable market in Australia. Sierra Cosworth and RS500 were making a considerable amount of power from 2 litres in 1986-87.

More boost = More power More timing = More power Too much of either = Detonation = Risk of engine failure. You can phuck an engine with shitloads of timing at low boost, or shitloads of boost with low timing. Decent fuel > Pump fuel Timing and boost with decent fuel > Timing and boost with pump fuel Power output with decent fuel > Power output with pump fuel Cost of decent fuel is minimum $5 per litre = $100 per 20 litre drum This will give you 40 litres of fuel in your tank = 2/3 full, if mixed to 1:1 ratio. Total cost of fuel in tank = $120 Running 1.3 bar with decent fuel @ cost above = Pointless and IMO stupid. To summarize, Guys @ JMS or any other workshop around the country (yes, including the guys from Perth) do not have a secret, or a trick unknown to others, to make a lot more power than Ben @ RacePace or Nige @ ICE. If you want more power, go and see the boys and they will give it to you. The JMS car has done 11.2, i did 11.4 JMS car had 385 rwkw, i had 330 rwkw. The mph on JMS car is not known, i did 124 mph. There is not much point in delving into matters any more than that.

There are number of people that have done 11s, with less modifications. -
I have the HKS Hyper. They are not as quiet as the Super Draggers.

Which Tyres for street GTR
Emre replied to meshmesh's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
$340 for the SO3s is a very good price. You should be able to get much better prices on the ST115s though. Try Donnelans at Boxhill, from memory i got quoted $270 each, 4-5 months ago.
