R34 25Gt, Good First Car? Or Not?
iseekool replied to Brawwwppp's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I honestly think you are talking out of your ass. R34 N/A are not speed demons, but they are not as slow as you think. I'd say "average" - 6 cyl commodore/falcon type of slow -

How do they slip through the system? I thought the whole point of having regular road worthy is to ensure the car is actually safe. (I'm from Victoria) -
Since you got the Honda as a daily and you also have your R32 - you are already in a good position to just mod your R32 and once you are off your Ps you will have a nice turn key car ready to go....

I'd say incompetence. People just aren't thinking "safe". My reasons - based on personal observation only. If you are a slower driver - stay on the left lane unless you are about to turn right. When on a hill and your vehicle is slow (or you're an idiot that doesn't downshift) - go to the left lane Trucks (heavy vehicles) should stick to the left lane, instead of hogging the right hand lane and not allowing cars to overtake safely. If it's dusk/raining or visibility is questionable for other drivers - turn on your headlights Use your indicators more - the number of idiots out there never using their indicators is insane. People that are lane drifting People without a reasonably maintained vehicle. Car can be old, that's fine - but it has to be in a good roadworthy condition. -

This. I'll all for unrestricted autobahn speeds, but many people struggle to drive properly at 100km/h on a nice 4x lane freeway with late model cars... One can only imagine once they are in the outback without all the lanes and nice surfaces... - Stricter road worthy (say every 5 years) - Stricter licensing - Visitors from countries without strict driving rules shouldn't be allowed to rent a vehicle - without passing a simple but comprehensive written test. - New migrants (even if they have had driving experience) need to pass the same exams as any L plater graduating to their P plates. -
I'd de-register and garage the R32 (if you have that luxury). Instead of spending the money on an engine conversion, spend the cash on modding the R32. Buy something like a late '90s pulsar/corolla or lancer to use on your Ps and resell it after you're off your P's. You will not lose any money on these econo cars, except for rego, insurance and basic maintenance. Mate of mine bought a good condition stock mid 90s Corolla for cheap for his Ps with RWC. All he got changed was the headunit to some $100 Sony from autobarn and performed regular maintenance. End of his Ps gave it a good clean, detail, put fresh oil and changed filters. Sold it and made a $1k profit with no RWC too. LOL.

Maybe Australia needs to start making more smaller and economical vehicles on-par or better than the overseas manufacturers. I think Holden make the Cruze locally - but I guess there is a stigma that its roots are Korean. I'm sure most reason why these government agencies choose international is because they can offer cars that do not depreciate fast (via the leasing company) and are good on fuel. On a side note - If Holden/Toyota sold an economical turbo charged 1.6L to 2L RWD cars with handling to match and the size of a Corolla - it can easily capture the interests of motoring enthusiasts around the world.
-
I agree. They need to make better quality products that are world class and what the world wants.

I'm no expert in economics. However we still need the car industry. I think what many people don't realise is the component makers will be hit hard too, which means more people unemployed. Employed people = tax payers and customers to other business. Unemployed people = walfare

You can get a custom 90 degree pipe made up or use a silicone pipe and attach to the end of the "Y" piece. Dan666 has/had this setup I think. You will have to remove the resonator box and get a GTt airbox

Make/year: Stock Lexus IS200, 6 speed manual, 1999, ~220,000km Market value: ~ $8000 possibly less Price per tank: 70L fuel tank X current price of Shell Vpower 98 Ks per tank: 8.9L to 9.1L per 100KM, for my usage ~80% urban. So I should be getting up to ~770km per tank - If i run it dry.

This is a stretch, but from memory the "n" denotes that it is an AWD... er34 is an ordinary RWD R34

Keep it. It actually helps with low down to mid range torque. If you take it off your car will feel sluggish for day-to-day driving.

Try the local Nissan dealer. From memory they are 270cc units - I don't know the price though... But price premium from the dealer maybe worth it long term.

A GT86 is quicker than an n/a R34. I don't see what you are getting at here. LOL

It's in the middle of the plenum, between the "Y" pipe. Picture attached.

Sounds like a vacum leak. Check all your signalling hoses/vacum lines for splits and cracks. Also brake booster and variable length intake actuator diaphram for breakage/busted seal.
-
Picture of the headlight please. There are two different headlight types. One with HID and one regular. The genuine HID units came with an adjustment switch in the cabin, have circular park light (looks like a golfball) and have the word XENON in the headlight housing.
