and yeah I saw that white 4door r34 smashed at the front, wonder what happened?
  3. personally, I would gently drive the car, keeping the revs moderate and gradually introduce inclines and engine load over the first 2000kms or so BUT Some engine builders seem to swear by straight harsh driving conditions to bed the rings and burn off all the coatings. Going by all the episodes of megafactories: ferrari, bmw, lamborghini; they all put the engine on a dyno and run at varying revs for ages, even at redline Then they take the car out on their tracks and give them a good thrashing. I seem to recall lamborghini running their engines @ redline for 7minutes
  4. I took an hour long trip in my gtr a few times to geelong. Took the same route before hand in my daily so i can sus out the pot holes and inclines to make sure i wont scrape the frontbar lolz. I would think if the mechanicals are running well, the only problem would be the ride as its very harsh in sportscars. Once in summer, 40degree day, I was watching the MFD for temps and even then, it was fine; got a little hot: water hit 96 and oil at 93-96 so with cooler conditions, shouldnt be a prob.
  5. Jokes aside, ive always wondered how antilag works. Very interesting read on wikipedia, like how the restrictors they use create more lag then a normal sports car so the turbo needs to be going stronger before they put the foot down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antilag_system on the street would be useful if you had a larger turbine and wanted to go on a spirited drive, although its probably very illegal and probably harsh on your powertrain. I would think the exhaust with mufflers and cat converter would be blown out in a few minutes on the street. definitely belongs in motorsport though.
  6. Good choice man, but please dont drive the car hard until you get an aftermarket ecu tune. Cam gears get great results as most people who have them will attest but when you do them, do the timing belt too. It saves on labor and although it says to change at 100k, rubber does corrode and crack over time so for piece of mind, do that too.
  7. Hey man, i had an s15 a few years ago and loved it, first thing to do is add rocker stoppers to the arms; the arms tend to break at high rpm so for like 50bux for the part, its great insurance. the 6-speed box has a rep to break when driven hard, but how u drive matters. Drive it nice and smoothly/dont slam gears, and it will take 300kw/atm for many years as one guy with a t04z found. I used a bosch 040 in tank pump which was good and wasnt too noisy at 250-300rwkw, i dont think you need to strengthen the chassi unless your going to the track. just some swawbars/strut braces should be enough for the spirited street drive. Turbo, not too sure, its been a while so im sure technology has enhanced since then; the best turbo back then was the trust td06 I think the best low mount at the time was 518z or was it 618z? also by trust try ns.com, they would have a much better idea as to whats ideal today. all the best mate -Johnny
  8. 100% agree with gtscott. Don't buy second hand turbos, do it right the first time and u will have a great car.
  9. sucks to hear mate, i dont think warranties cover wear and tear parts like turbos. Plenty of threads on here about turbo upgrades, if your like me and want a nice streeter then just get yours rebuilt from a company like gcg or gt-ss or 2860-7. do a quick search and u will find more info then you can read. cheers mate
  10. I would use the warranty and remove your name and other personal details from this thread just in case the dealer is on here and voids it. We all know you just checked a few things and cleaned, you didnt screw with anything so maybe get a moderator to remove some details of where you got it from? All the best mate
  11. Im in Hawkstowe, south morang, VIC Big fan of motive compared to ignition dvd, although i still own all of them and do watch them occasionally. Andrew Hawkins is a great host, wouldnt mind to meet him one day as he seems like a nice guy.
  12. amazing job, i love seeing a good before and after deatil job. whats with the opticoat? is it a synthetic coating? you apply organic waxes after this product right for depth of shine? does it last long?
  13. kinda sucks huh that this thread is a little old now. I would think that SPOOL would at least sponsor some peoples cars to test the new kit so they have an idea of the pros and cons: as a nice street motor with -5's would be my favourite even with a 7500rpm rev limiter. Testing on tracks at constant high RPM and even some dyno queens with 1000+ hp Many members with an rb26 are rebuilding ATM, maybe some of them can contact spool and ask to be a test/promo vehicle.
  14. Ive been very interested in this once i saw it, but when i went on youtube, there is only a movie of the motor starting and idling. does anyone have a link to an actual running motor?
  15. I think it means the 100k service was done, specifically the timing belt as gtr owners are fussy and know that rubber corrodes after a few years. Mine has a genuine 31k now but im doing my timing belt in about a month as its almost 10years old now and would prefer that piece of mind.
  16. just watched motive 9 and 10, they were great so looking forward to this. Although, my local newsagents dont stock them so i always have to order from hardtuned; seems to take forever, about a 6-7 working days after an instant cc payment. I know Andy Hawkins is on here sometimes, maybe he can have a chat to his distributers. Does anyone know places/chain stores which stock motive?
  17. Sorry guys it only a 2wd dyno - i think those pics on the flyer are from autosalon.
  18. Hey man, you will get some good gains with this mod list but when it comes to coolers, spend a bit more as the cheap ones, while are capable will add alot of weight to the front end and you will feel it when you hit a pothole or speedbump: ARC is a good brand and dont go too big; just what you need. Pick a good tuner around your area, call them and tell them about your car and schedule some time where you can go down and take 20mins of there time to have a chat. Search this site too, theres plenty on basic mods with results. all the best
  19. I havent seen this yet, whats the summary version? let me guess though before i read: ebay elec supercharger broke a fin which sucked into engine and 'boom'?
  20. Wow, even small engines are quite heavy. Too much hassle to ship something that heavy though. Thanks anyways man cos 75bux is pretty cheap to learn and build a coffee table or engine model. Im still keen on this idea so ill keep an eye out in the fs section for blown rb20 25, 30 and 26 with a good price. ill post a thread if i do end up with a engine block coffee table lolz -Johnny
  21. I wouldnt go for a skyline if your gonna get a bike for track and fun dry day thrashes as you will just get the mod bug and keep going and going until you spend $XXXXX. Id be keen on the xr6t from a dealer as they will give you a warranty, extended if you wish. Big car too so very practical.
  22. Interesing, now im considering this as i wouldnt mind a engine block table for my lounge. where are you? melb, cos interstate would be very hard. How much does an engine like this weigh too?
  23. Huh??? GA? Anyways, i just saw those haynes engine assembly @ autobarn for $59 i think; they had heaps of them and i was tempted lolz
  24. Hey guys, There is a Dyno Day Charity Event for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children. This great charity event is on the 13th of August starting at 10am @ Northern EFI & Mechanical who has been my mechanic for a long time now and I asked his permission to post this on SAU to see if members would like to come down to either run your car, check out the cars, mingle and preferably make a donation to this great cause. I took this photo of the event details. I hope to see you there and remember, this is a Charity event so please no silly behaviour -Johnny
  25. I got this one once parked in a shopping complex guy: nice car man me: thanks man guy: is that a gtr? me: yeah man guy: cant be a gtr, it dosent have drilled rotors Another convo talking about drifting guy: only turbo cars can drift cos when boost comes on, the wheels spin 'does countersteer action and says "tsoot tsoot"
