Hks Japan 2.8 Engine Build
elrodeo666 replied to elrodeo666's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
We tuned it knowing I'd be running 98 over here but will have to add some Octane boost. my mate from HKS is coming out to Oz later this year so we do a bit of fine tuning and possibly just change the whole fuel setup and go for more power, depends on how long he is here for. Honestly I have no clue about the E85 and its pro's and cons. Wanna fill me in. Hopefully I'll here something from Dotars soon and it can be on its merry way. I am absolutely hanging to drive the thing. -
Hks Japan 2.8 Engine Build
elrodeo666 replied to elrodeo666's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Hey Butch I finally got an email from Dotars last week and they wanted more documents to prove I had returned to Oz. Already had sent most before but sent what they asked for again. Hopefully get the import approval very soon as car is sitting at HKS waiting to go. Fingers crossed it should be on the road late June, early July. Car has been detuned a bit to just over 600ps with a scramble boost hit of 10seconds of extra 20ps. With the current fuel and injector setup, running it at much higher power level , it was reaching max level so went the safer side of things for awhile. Down the track a bit I'll possibly upgrade the fuel system and go for more power. Guys reckon it will crack 700ps easy but even in its current form they reckon the torque it has is pretty impressive. All I want to do is drive the thing now. I'm off back to Japan at the end of the month for a few weeks to buy some parts and organise sending a heap of other parts, engines, etc I still have sitting in storage. Also have a weekend racing with the HKS guys so looking forward to that. -

Yeah mate full time Japanese school in Japan is pure hell. The work load is intense and you really just want to be going there to really study. If I was you I'd be hitting up the TAFE's , Uni's, English schools looking for Japanese students looking for a language exchange student and spend as much time with them as possible. Benefits are you may end up making a good friend and excellent contact in Japan. This is probably best for you. Also have a suss of what Japanese language schools are about in your area. For one on one study you will pay through the nose. Hit some books, the Japanese for Busy people 1 & 2 are pretty easy to understand. Learn Hiragana & Katakana at the very least if you really want to learn fast. Dont worry about the Kanji, there's over 8000 of those babies and even the japanese dont know most of them. Watch japanese movies and listen to the pronunciation, download stuff and chuck it on your ipod and listen , listen listen. But best of all is go get a cheap Jetstar ticket and get your arse over there and into the bars and start talking. Dont worry about having bugger all and being embarrassed, just go for it and you'll find you'll be speaking the lingo in no time.

Nismo Gt500 Rrr Engine Block
elrodeo666 replied to elrodeo666's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
This is great opportunity to buy the perfect engine block to build a Time attack monster. I'll be going back to Japan in a few weeks and will be organising (hopefully) to have it shipped to Oz. The other option is to have a short block built in Japan through any of the Tuning shops. -
Yeah I was on their case yesterday. Nice and polite but basically what the f@#k is going on. Long story but it looks like it should all be good later this week and if not I'll be going their in person. As for paperwork I gave them everything they asked for and more. I'm not overly fussed as going back to Jappa in 3 weeks for a bit of bizzo and some racing with some mates and some candy sampling but would be good if its in Oz by the time I get back here. I havent even got to drive it in its finished tune.

Japanese Language For Busy People 1 will give you the basics and No 2 will get you on your way with Kanji But....... Throw your books in the bin. The best way before you go is to get a Japanese girl language student. There's buckets of them inOz looking for language exchange. Bonus is you might even find one thats good looking and keen for a bit of ..cough cough cultural exchanages. The best way once in your in Japan is hit the bars and dont mean gaijin bars. Just spend a little time walking around and suss out bars, izakayas night clubs that are pretty much Japanese only. You'll be forced to communicate as best you can in Japanese and you'll learn faster this way than any other. Remember booze is you friend, the less you can think the easier it is. You got to not try to think in english. Tune, tune, tune. The more girls you get the better your Japanese. Take condoms as the Jap ones are small. Imagine ring barking your knob..get the picture. Never go to Japanese school. I had to do this for a year once for a visa and it was hell. Around $6500 for a year and 20 hrs a week. Would have been much more worthwhile spending that money in a bar tuning candy. Schools will stuff your Japanese and make you all polite, great if you want to do business etc there but if you want to speak like a native then hang with the natives. When I first went to Japan around 10 years ago I got a job as a male host. This was an awesome job and brilliant for your language learning, plus you got to drink free booze and play with women, some but ugly , some too rich and lonely but quite rootable. It definitely has its seedier side as the place I worked for was run by a solid yakuza group but the contacts and friends I made their will be with me for life.

Hey Mate Sorry I havent checked this for a bit as have been busy house hunting and getting setup. At the moment I dont have any more timing covers but do have a set in Japan but wont be able to get it sent to Oz until after May 10th as its with a bunch of other stuff that I still have at HKS. I can probably chase one up on Yahoo Auctions for you as I have a couple of accounts.

I've actually been a lazy bastard and havent posted any more pics.. Seriously been busy as packing up 2 houses in Japan, sending shit to Oz and Korea, storing other crap in Japan and trying to get my car sorted to send down under. Now I'm here in Oz its been non stop house hunting which we finally found last friday, buying a daily driver (jeez theres some absolute, way over priced crap out there) s and slowly sorting things out. My main computer with a container of our stuff should arrive soon so I'll post up a bucket load more pics soon. Also I'll get around to posting up pics from last years Nismo Event, got some shots of some sick cars. I'll even throw up a sorta pictography of parts of japan you guys dont usually see in the next few weeks as I get organised. And maybe even some hot candy ! Yeah Tooccoo is pretty good if you cant read and speak ping pong, plus you can usually get GPS in english. If you can read and speak the lingo theres heaps of great deals out on some of the jap travel websites , but you need to be pretty fluent to understand it.

Yeah mate not a problem. I did it in my own car that I have been building the last 2 years and needed to rack up some k's for running in new motor. But anyone can pretty much fly into anywhere in Japan and rent a car, van, bike, truck and do a road trip. You'll spend a bit of coin but have a heap of fun and great way to get out and see alot more of Japan. These guys do some pretty good deals on rentals...just pick a place you want to go to and click on that and it will show rental places where you can pickup/drop off. They often have some good specials... http://www2.tocoo.jp/?file=rentcar_inbound...amp;asp_id=0001

Here you go. http://www.tigerdude.com/japan/license/temp.html The amount of booze I've drunk in 10 years living in ping pong land one red plate looks the same to me. I'm glad they arent green otherwise the Japanese would be telling me they are blue like their traffic lights. Also in reality , the amount of shonkster abuse of driving without shakken is pretty prolific. Anything from swapping plates to not using any at all to all sorts of dodgey shit.
-
Doesnt it depend on which area you live in. In Hokkaido I've used the red slashed plates for temporary driving of unregistered cars but also had jap mates from workshops use them when buying vehicles or picking up wrecks.

New To Oz And Need Internet Provider Help
elrodeo666 replied to elrodeo666's topic in PC & Games Discussion
Thanks I'll check them out but not today as I'm learning about Aussie beer hangovers today, totally forgot how evil they are. -
Having just moved from Japan after almost 10 years to the Gold Coast I'm at a complete lost in trying to get the best internet setup. All this download speed, download limits has me at a lost seeing in Jappa it was around $130 a month for cable tv and internet with unlimited use. What I'm after is some input from you guys on what you reckon is the best way to go. I've just hooked up basic home phone with Telstra but can ditch that if need be. I'm looking for phone a good affordable home phone, internet and tv provider. I have no idea on whats a good internet usage level as never kept track of it but reckon somewhere in the 50gig a month would be a good starting point. Any input would be much appreciated.

Heaps of tracks do track days from basic gymkhana days to full blown race meets. Like Baron said go pester your local tuning shop or have a suss on the net with this http://www.terap.org/raceway/japan/ (posted by someone in SAU Japn area) Basic track days are anywhere from 3000 - 5000 yen for the day from my experiences. Bigger meets usually more but the days i've done have just been roll up Early , register, pay your money, safety lecture then have some fun. It helps to go your first time with someone e.g local tuning shop, to get an introduction and to say your not some mad gaijin. Good luck

Tuning Shops Locking Your Ecu's Tune
elrodeo666 replied to NW007's topic in General Automotive Discussion
In Japan HKS have been doing this for donkeys years, well ever since the release of the Fcon series. Having lived there for almost 10 years I totally understand why as the average punter over there, if were able to unlock their tune theres no way they would be able to resist playing with buttons and settings. There would be blown motors everywhere !! In Japan its more a thing of making sure the children dont break their toys. There is a massive lack of common sense in Japan. Theres also the upside for HKS in the continual revenue they make. They have the policy there that only the registered HKS Tuning shop can tune the ECU. Thing is each tuning shop tuner then locks the tune and can only be accessed by that tuner. Meaning that you always have to go back to that shop to do any mods to the tune. All tunes and pins are usually kept by the workshop on a data base. There is usually no pin sharing unless the workshop is part of the HKS Company direct umbrella. -
X 2 For the ADVAN TC2's I've got a set of 18x10.5's in gold and very light and extremely hard to get even in Japan. You guys would cry if you knew how little I paid for them in Japan...very, very cheap and brand new from Yokohama. I'll try post up some pics when the car arrives from Japan, hopefully soon. Also have a set of Enkei RPO5's (Silver/Chrome) which are for daily driving. Bit heavy but actually look pretty good on a white GTR33..

Trade plates. Also if you need temp rego for short time you can get these plates for set fee per day.

Its the more intelligent japanese drivers way of telling you that they are... Talking on the phone. Having a sleep in the car. Putting on makeup. Stop outside a shop where there is no parking allowed. There's something good on tv and they have stopped to watch it. They dont know where they are. The list goes on and on.. Usually you will find them stopped in the middle of the road on a blind corner with hazards on talking on the phone and a parking bay less than 100 metres away...I could go on all day !! What they generally dont use it for is for emergency situation.
