JJR Coil Packs Vs Oem Vs Splitfire Vs Other
elrodeo666 replied to 4drftn's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The Splitfires are a great coil pack but talking to alot of tuners in Japan they find they have limits with big power applications. My old OEM's were sweet as where the Splitfires were misfiring. Ended up getting a new set at a good discount through friend at Nissan, still hurt the pocket and thats why I bought the Splitfires in the first place. The Okada's ..well love to get them but the price tag is a bit too much on the ouch side. -

Marko I run the HKS Twin Power amplifier and was running Splitfires with no drama until new engine dropped in. I was always happy with the Splitfires performance. We ran 2 new sets tuning the new engine and always at around 8200rpm we started getting misfire so went back to standard and sweet as. Engines putting out around the 450kw mark and still has to have final power check. The Jap guys reckon the Splitfires are a great performance upgrade but when starting to push over 600ps upwards they tend to misfire. The HKS guys were always umming and aahing when I chose Splitfires over the standard coils. I'm not knocking them as they are a great product but they have their limitations. Most big power engines/race engine in Japan are using standard coil packs or the Okada Project Plasma Directs http://www.okadaprojects.com/usa/products_direct.htm Either one new will rip a new hole where the sun dont shine ! -
First Pass 9.9 @ 147mph Full Trim

Ha !! I can confirm that the tracks are not much better than goat tracks. The local one where I lived in Japan was an old airstrip that was potholed repaired and at one end of the track looking to the other you couldnt see the other end as it had a big hill in the middle with dips either side if that makes any sense. It was definitely backyard drag racing, they setup xmas tree lights only for the drags. You sould see where they drag on the streets, absolutely lethal. On the hand where they do the 300kph over testing was only 50mins drive from my house and that was primo condition except not open to the public, its Daihatsu's test track. -

Yeah thats them. Their workshop is a bit tricky to find, down off little side road in Yokohama area. I was thinking of getting a few boxes made up this year and bring them to Oz if there was any interest. The OS input shaft is a tougher setup for dragging but supposedly AGY's new setup is good for 800PS but more a street/circuit box. They are like silk to shift !! They just slip into gear. -

Ha Marko.. I'll miss the Japanese summer Flange/Candy big time...In Japan the beach in summer is one crazy place, a deviats dreamworld !! I have a box being built by Auto gallery Yokohama and sourcing an OS gearset to have another box built and see which one is the best and sell the other. Auto gallery now do a box with uprated input shaft which used to be the weak link in their boxes. The shift in these are silky smooth and quick !! -

Somewhere on the Goldy as I have had a gutfull of cold winters and shitloads of snow. i want some sunshine and warmth, BBQ's and thongs !! I'm running a custom in tank setup which we thought would cope but having a bit of a rethink at the moment. Shit the power its making comfortably its still going to be a handfull !! As for fuel, yep its a higher ron rating. Hi Oku its called but the guys have done a couple of fuel maps and most tunes done in Japan on the Fcon are for 98Octane. Still going to always try run it with some octane boost. My mates coming out to Oz later this year and will do a retune if neccessary. Yep stayed with the -5's and pretty much standard, plus got heat coated. Now just have to sort out a box to take some punishment.. These bastard cars are an endless money well...one that sucks everything you have !! -

Well still no luck with the dyno. Cant get a final power reading as pickup sensor on the dyno is f@#ked but hopefully thats repaired this week. Other problem is were limited to max of 1.4bar as anymore boost and fuel pump cant supply enough fuel. Injectors are big enough, its fuel pump letting us down, so having a think wether to leave as is or go bigger fuel delivery setuo. I'm not real keen for fuel surge tank etc as car is meant for street , plus I want to the car sent asap once the approval comes through. Power estimates from what they can tell its around the 450kw mark and power comes on like a bomb !! Real early and real hard !! HKS guys are pretty impressed by the whole engine package, a mix of Aussie and Japanese parts and HKS's secret head tune... yeah yeah..everyone has their secret tune ! All I got to do now is get the thing to OZ and have some fun !! -
Sorry guys I have moved out of my house so have been using my phone for internet.. Engine covers are all off RB26 and are now on their way to Australia by shipping container. There is brand new unused set of NUR covers !! Still for sale are Tomei Outlet Dump pipes x 3 sets Tomei Adjustable cam gears x 1 set or will seperate HKS GT 30307 Pro-s Turbo which been sent Australia and is still for sale. All engine covers are on hold for a month !!

We had the car on the dyno yesterday doing the base setting of 1.2 Bar for the A setting Standard) on the Boost controller. The Dyno's computer decided to play silly buggers and we couldnt get a reading of max output but going on the graph they reckon it was making a bit over 400Kw's atw and final boost setting will be around 1.5 maybe 1.6 and should make a comfortable 450 kw's. Not sure on the scramble boost limit yet but somewhere around 1.8bar to 2bar for 10secs of woooosh !! Whatever it finishes up with it should be a handfull !! It should be all tuned by tomorrow or Monday at the latest and ready to send to Oz. Just waiting on import approval and send the bugger off. I'm in Tokyo then Nagoya for a few days of Sayonara with some friends and some business. We're about to head off for a feed then off to Daikoku futo for a bit and some runs later on the highways..e.g Wagan !! Hopefully sometime next week I'll have a dyno chart to put up here. -

Thanks for that Richard..I have someone on it at the moment, he has a cooking show named after him ! Been meaning to throw a few more pics and info up lately but been flat out packing 2 houses up for move to Oz. Well theres been a delay on the tuning as HKS's Dyno Pack computer decided to shit itself and has taken almost 3 weeks to get fixed but the car was back on the dyno getting some tuning done today. They should have final tune done by March 15th. The classic is they want to do road tuning after that... 2 of them screaming down the highway, one driving and one tweaking on the computer..the Jap tuning way. They reckon they squeeze and extra2-3% more performance outta the car after a final full boost dyno tune. I think if I was going full bore on going big power on the car I'd go for it but happy to leave it as finished with the Dyno tune and get the thing to Oz asap and then I drive the bloody thing. Just waiting for import approval to come through.
