[cough] say what ?!? - the RB30 is used in Oz spec R31 Skylines and Nissan MQ Patrol's. Holden bought the RB30 to put in the VL when they realised the 202 (read: boat anchor) couldn't cut it with unleaded fuel. The bottom end of the RB30 is as strong as any of the RB series. As for the RB25 head, the non-VCT head bolts straight to the RB30 block without mods, but the VCT head requires oil gallery mods.

Ask them to explain exactly what this means....believe me, it's not a case of bigger numbers being 'better'.

R31 for sale [melb]
SteveL replied to predator's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
What he means is that the RB30 is a straight 6, not a V6 (as in 2 banks of 3 cylinders arranged in a V shape). -
Final Pic - Main Label. Operating Volts, temps etc are pretty obvious, plus pressure ranges, but would be nice to have confirmation of the last few lines
-
Another switch right next to the previous one.
-
Switch right next to pot in prev photo, also has W-N label, so clearly something to do with the pot.
-
Photo of what I think is the calibration pot - there are also 2 switches near by (see next 2 photos). Interested in what that Jap Text says. W and N also has something to do with one of teh switches

Here is a picture of the connector. The one at the left is the one I'm interested in - anyone able to help with that Japanese symbol ??
-
Yes, it's a fuzzy logic boost controller. It was cheap, and seems to work OK on the bench, but probably have to play around with it on the car to find out more it seems. Alternatively, know anyone that can read Japanese ?? - there are some labels on the thing which might help explain matters - I can take some photo's and post them...... Cheers

Can anyone help me with a manual or any info on one of these ?? I got this one seconhand and the seller promised me the connection info, but... Anyway, I've figured most of it out by bench testing, but there are a few things that I haven't (eg there's a green wire on one connector that goes no-where/ also there's a pot and a couple of switches on one side, probably for callibration (?)). Any help appreciated. I've done a web search with no real luck. TIA

Where's the oil pressure switch and detonation sensors?
SteveL replied to S13 Silvia's topic in General Maintenance
Oil pressure switch/sensor is right next to the oil filter (or should be:)). There are 2 knock sensors on the RB20DET, they are screwed into the inlet manifold side of the engine block just below the head gasket line (top of the block). There is one approximately in line with cyl #2 and one at cyl #4. They are quite hard to see with the engine installed in the car. -
dark blue or purple, perhaps black

Just saw what looked like the remains of an R33 on the news. I say 'looked like' cos the it was pretty much unrecognisable from the rear of the doors forwards. Hit a tree at high speed and then caught fire. Driver and front seat passenger incinerated (probably killed instantly anyway), two rear passengers dragged from the wreckage and now in intensive care. Hope no one here was involved.... Condolances....

It was the moustache that gave you away.... Chris will be at Calder on Sunday, so might be worth a talk to him as he's done a fair few brake conversions, but no R30's that I know of. I've got a spare set of 240Z hubs that you can try if you like.
-
I just realised.....it's Greg, isn't ??
-
Short answer is no, or at least not easily. 'hub type' means that the hub and disc are cast as one piece, but the 280ZX disc requires to be bolted to the hub - with the R30 disc/hub arrangment there's nothing to bolt to. But your not alone, locally built non-GTS R31 Skylines use the same arrangment. There are ways around your problem, but they are dependent on your mechanical and perhaps machining skills. For example, you could see if a hub from a different Nissan model can be substituted and this opens up the range of discs you can use. For starters look at 240K, C210 Skyline or even 240Z/260Z. It should be possible to adapt the 280ZX disc to these, or possibly something like Z31 discs. As far as calipers are concerned, suggest you look at late Toyota Hilux cals for vented discs which are 4-spot and bolt straight up to Z cal mounts (I think R30 is similar, but not sure). These cals are cast iron and heavy but give vastly improved braking. Another possibility is 6-series BMW cals which can be bought very cheaply, but require some modification. Good luck.

The R32 GTS-t rear end I have still has the driveshafts and from memory 5-bolts are used to attach at the diff end. I'll double check tonight but pretty sure that's correct. I think R32 GTR's use 6 bolts.

A friend makes them for me.....I do work for him in return, so not sure what he'd charge for someone else. I'll ask if you like.

So it sounds like the RB25DET flywheel is probably about the same diameter as the RB30E type (??) - just looking at buying a steel blank to have a flywheel made.....
-
Can anyone tell me the diameter of one of these ?? Is it the same as RB30E/T ?? TIA

Are silver top RB20 coil packs the same as Redtop
SteveL replied to R31Heaven's topic in General Maintenance
Not 100% sure but I think the connector may be different. -
I have import HR31 GTS turbo front struts and brakes on my Silh and apart from the 100mm cal mounts they are virtually identical to the local non-GTS parts. I thought the local GTS cars ran Bilstein suspension all round - I have only seen one pair of these and the shaft diameter was HUGE compared to the local non-GTS stuff. Anyway, I think both will bolt into a local non-GTS car.
-
I've got a whole rear subframe at home, sure to be one there, but I'm in Melbourne...how soon do you need it ??
-
Well I've just bought a set of the R32 front and rear ULT pads. The PN's I've given are the ones for the R32 GTR, and they are the only ones that Bendix list. But, if you look at the DBA catalogue, they say that R32 GTR, R32 GTSt/GTS4 and R33 GTSt use the same rear disc (DBA908) and I'd be very surprised if the cal wasn't also the same. I have a pair of the R32 GTSt rear cals with the factory pads in the garage and as far as I can see the Bendix pads are identical. That said, it still could be they're different [shrug]....
