  1. Yep still keen for some accomodation for Friday night....its a long long drive from Newcastle .....there is me and my support crew...(+1)
  2. Found one!!!
  3. Yeah I know.......you dont know how many they have roughly?? I dont want to get caught out if they all get hired out...I also plan on using it a bit too....
  4. I've got a very Newbie sounding question but I am a newbie....(and I did a search but coudln't find anything) I need to buy a helmet for Saturday....I am assuming any helmet I buy from a motorbike shop will be good enough as long as it is a full face...also what sort of money would i expect to spend...I assume all helmets sold in Aus are approved?? Anyone in Newcastle bought one up here recently, if so who from???
  5. Good...looks like there is some spots left... Can you put me down for 2 beds on the Friday night..Me + 1....single beds...I will have to do an over the counter deposit...will scan the receipt and email or PM it! cheers

  7. Me too me too!!! Confirmed..
  8. Its a long shot but i am hoping someone in Newcastle or Central Coast has R33 front lower control arms either RHS stock or aftermarket (pair required if not stock) front lower control arms laying around... I just f**ked my RHS one trying to XXX brand polyurethane bushes.... Will pickup if you have them...
  9. mmm....i thought it was the other way around.....it may be what you said...its an arbitrary number anyway...
  10. Just remembered that you also should use a material that has a relatively high elastic modulus because conrods stretch elastically due to the high tensile load and which means they come higher up in the bore with increasing rpm....they also get shorter at bdc but this has less impact...obviously...the hisgher the elastic modulus, the less they stretch...
  11. Dood, You are keen!! Just a couple of things though...2000Nm (always need to pay respects to Isaac Newton and use a capital N) is a torque or torsional force. Linear force is measured in Newtons or (N) Anway just wondering how you got this number....Is it from a static or dynamic calc... When I was at uni I did a conrod design project and found that the dynamic stresses far outway stresses caused by gas pressure on the rod from the piston...These stresses increase with rpm and the relationship is pretty much a squared one...ie if you double the engine rpm, the conrod stresses increase by a factor of four...I also worked out that the highest stresses are tensile and experienced just after TDC on the inlet stroke...The reason for this is that the rod has to accelerate the piston mass, overcome piston friction and also draw in the air fuel mix...This force is by far the highest when engine is at full rpm and the throttle is closed suddenly producing high cylinder vacuum. This is why good rod bolts are so important cause the tensile stress in the rod bolts can be absolutley huge and get much much higher as rpm increases... On the power stroke the mass of the piston causes a tensile stress in the rod but the gas pressure produces a compressive force...these forces then start to cancel out and the resultant force is less.... You also need to consider bending in the rod...the angular acceleration of the bigend compared to the little end is huge as well so the rod has to be stiff enough resist fatigue due to cyclic bending..eg the use of H-beam rods that have high stiffness across them... Anyway mate good luck with it but I would really recommend you try the rods and pistons out in a crap engine first...
  12. I am running a GT30R which obviously is laggier than stock turbo...so the afm voltage rise rate would be lower at say 2000-3000rpm than with a stock turbo...Maybe the ECU monitors afm v rise rate but only in the low rpm ranges...
  13. To be honest with my car on the Dyno we didn't see excessively low AFRs but I have heard of it happening...not sure about the ignition advance though...I have the Nissan consult datafiles so I will check...
  14. Nice one...The first post already says that any knock sensor fault (open/closed circuit) activates ignition retard... I would say every single ECU with knock sensor capability would do this...
  15. Yep thought about doin that but the switch bounce 'may' be detected as knock by the ECU.... And yep..that is all i am doing..fooling the ECU...
  16. Yeah I took the plugs out and they were copper, a bit tired and gapped to 1.0mm. Put in some Brisk plugs and gapped them at 0.7mm so Im keen to see if this fixed it...From what I know about R&R it is fairly slow to react and certain doesn't jump around...I think on a dyno you would just see richer mixtures and over the whole rev range and wouldn't look like break down typically does...Anyway Are you going to Wakefield on the 21st June??
  17. Ahhh yes Dr Power FC how are you??...Hey when we did that power run I hadn't yet done this mod so it may have been in R&R to some degree...
  18. Turbo is GT3076R...Airflow cut is managed by playing tricks and games with boost curve which is done by camshaft timing....and other things...
  19. Because if a stock RB25 ECU is running a stock RB25 bottom end and the ECU is detecting pinging, the engine probably IS pinging and R&R will save the engine.... piston ring lands are the achillies heel of the RB25...
  20. YES and NO....the ECU stops R&R gradually...its function is to protetct against bad or low RON fuel so it once it is triggered it kind of goes into a learning mode when it brings back fuel and ignition parameters very slowly... reseting ECU brings it back straight away but I think even then the maps are a little conservative...Not sure on this...never tried to measure it...
  21. Just thought I would post some pics of an oil catch can I am making that is vent to atmosphere but soon wont look like it... It is a piece of 90x90 MS RHS that has been turned into 70x90mm (not so rectangular though) so it clears cam covers...Its fitted to strut brace with a couple of aluminium brackets profiles out of 10mm plate...Not finished yet but here is some progress shots...The idea is to have a high flowing oil catch can but with the vent filters hidden from view. Filters will be covered with aluminium shroud that covers them so they can't be seen...let me know what you think... Am even going to fit a dummy hose back to the intake pipework for that 'EPA approved' look...will be painted in 'Highway Patrol invisible matt black'....If asked it will be my '10% ethanol fuel blend enabled polariser not tested on animals' fitted to the car when I bought it thing...
  22. Depends on what you mean by modded engine...If you run forged pistons the extra slap when the egnine is cold 'may' (and I say may here cause I haven't measured it) be seen by stock ECU as detonation...It shouldn't be a problem if you run cast pistons.... And yeah the extra airflow will cause ECU to drop ignition which is very noticable...It starts by dropping alternative spark and if bad enough will cut ignition right out until airflow drop below certain level...If you keep on the throttle it will stutter (like on rev limiter) because highairflow causes ignition cut which cuts engine, airflow drops, ignition comes back, airflow comes up again, ECU cuts spark and so and so....
  23. Hey all, Just thought I would write a quick one on how to disable the Rich and Retard function on the stock R33 ECU by disabling knock sensors... Disclaimer: Do not do this unless you understand what detonation is and what causes it. Basically it involves disconnecting the knock sensors and fooling the ECU that they are still there. I have done this modification because I am running forged pistons in an RB30 block and had concerns that piston slap on cold starts 'may' have been mistaken for pinging by stock ECU and therefore ECU keeps using R&R maps...Also the stock ECU would be very conservative wrt to knock detection and tuned for the acoustics of the RB25 block and not the RB30.. If are running stock RB25 there is no advantage in doing this and you risk f**king your engine....Don't do it...I have written this post just out of interest First off R&R is triggered by engine knock and not excessive airflow. Airflow cut is is completely different and doesn't revert to R&R maps...R&R maps and R&R mode is a protection against bad fuel and once the ECU goes into R&R is slowly creeps ignition advance and leans back the AFR over time. 'Airflow cut is always active and actuates as soon as afm voltage exceeds a certain threshold. It is a constant and cuts ignition when the threshold has been exceeded...as soon as the afm v drops it brings back ignition...there is no learn/relearn function once it has been triggered'. Now for how to do it: If you just disconnect the knock sensors the ECU gives error code 55. When ever this happens the ECU reverts instantly to R&R anyway...Also if you ground the Knock sensor signal wire it also goes to error code 55 which again reverts to R&R mode...(maybe a few people reconnecting their knock sensors about now)... The only way to do is to make the ECU 'think' that they are connected. The resistance of the knock sensors is about 500kOhms at DC. So what you do is disconnect the knock sensors and put 500kOhm resistor across the knock sensor input and ECU ground...On R33 ECU knock sensor inputs are pins 23 and 24. Check the picture for how I did it internally. I have actually used 2 1MOhm resistors and tied the two pins together and grounded them to the ECU chassis... You should not really do this mod unless you have Nissan Consult gear. Then you can check you have done it the right way and not caused any errors. I set ignition timing as per normal way but have worked out how much extra base timing I can run without excessive knock based on the all of the other mods I have done...It is no substitute for aftermarket ECU and good tune but I am happy with the 277rwkW I have been reliably making for the past 2 years with the stock ECU...
  24. What about exhaust mods like this?? Done by yours truly but very tidy and very very secure... Just not RTA or EPA compliant...
  25. Just paid through paypal. Will email details and receipt tonight...
