  1. Rightio. I had the pleasure of going for a little squirt yesterday in the absolutely epic car. It wasn't a long drive, it was enough to get the feel for the OS88 in it. Absolutely sold. Definitely not as "agricultural" as what I would have imagined. The first thing that struck me was how quiet and tame it is while idling. No "grump grump, lots of overlap, big cam crap" going on, just a smooth as factory idle. The noise that was coming out of the exhaust wasn't that much louder than a factory car also. Pulls well from down low but you can tell its just screaming to be wound up. 15 psi, its not even trying. The level of detail is second to none, anyone that has looked over this car would attest to that. Thanks again for your time Bob, you didn't have to do that. You have just spent $16,000 or so of my money.
  2. From what Bob was saying, the holinger doesn't like more than 800 HP (not saying I'm at 800 HP). It's also straight cut. Quaife - 750 hp Modena - not sure Albins - straight cut Being a "street" car, I don't want to wear ear plugs while driving the damn thing. That's not what it's about. It doesn't matter what way I/we go, none of the options are cheap. Even the cheapest option of the PPG 1-4 helical dog set will be the best bit of $7,000 by the time it's all done.
  3. Bobcat has bought some aftermarket shifter but it's not completed yet. He just simply clutched in and pulled the lever, next gear and away we go! When Marcus got a quote for me, the guy that did my head suggested/recommended the OS88 straight away, $$$ being the problem. The issue is, as BigMicky said earlier, the standard casing only allows so much physical gear size, limiting strength. I know I'm repeating myself but the level of street ability and user friendliness surprised me. I thought it would have been as agricultural as a John Deer tractor.
  4. Weren't in it long, Charlie. I didn't want to start inviting half of SAU when Bob went well and truly out of his way already. As I said, very very impressed. Slick, quick, effortless, quiet and no fuss. Bob even slowed down and stopped at a set of lights in 4th gear. He clutched in and pushed the lever up and selected 1st. No noise, nothing. Let the clutch out and away we went.
  5. Haha!!!! You can't sell that, the head got sold!
  6. Haha! Actually, no beers tonight. Gotta save them up for tomorrow
  7. I reckon the 3.9 would be the pick of the bunch, but bugger that!!!! $47377262862 !!
  8. Good thing you have that slow revving RB 30 at that rpm
  9. I can't bloody find the calculator I used last night for the 100 km\h rpm. Farken!
  10. 99 144 194 243 286 377 LOL...yeah, no!
  11. Bob, I worked out the ratios to go into a 34. God they're tall, too tall I reckon.
  12. Crazy eh. $5,000 for two sets of gears. Farken pull your head in, Nismo!
  13. For Micky Hill 265 / 35 x 18 tyre 8000 RPM limit 3.545 diff gears Optional Ratio 2 : 1st: 2.890 / 2nd: 1.981 / 3rd: 1.468 / 4th: 1.174 / 5th: 1.00 / 6th: 0.757 < - - those ratios 1 = 94 km/h 2 = 137 km/h 3 = 185 km/h 4 = 231 km/h 5 = 272 km/h 6 = 359 km/h Sounds a little tall! http://www.nismo.co.jp/omori_factory/original_menu/final_g/index.html Nismo 3.916 final drive. Don't look at the price Same ratios with the 3.916. Ohhh baby 1 = 85 km/h 2 = 124 km/h 3 = 168 km/h 4 = 210 km/h 5 = 246 km/h 6 = 325 km/h
  14. So, I went for a drive in Bobby's R34 this arvo. My mind is made up, the OS88 is one amazing bit of kit. There is a bit of a clunk between gears while doodling around which isn't a huge deal. When up it, its very smooth and effortless. I was so surprised at how user friendly it was. I jumped in the drivers seat and played with the clutch - that is NOT how I remember Steveo's OS R3C. Its actually lighter than my Nismo coppermix. It must have something to do with the OS fork which you can buy with the OS88. Yep... that's all I can say lol.
  15. Looks like a mid 90's jap drag car.
  16. Thing is, it's not like you're trying to find someone with an OS 5 speed. These things ain't cheap. I might flick Bobby a PM. One question I do have, whats the 'nicest' way of going from say 6th to 2nd. Is it a simple case of clutching in and pushing the lever up or should you try and match the revs with your right foot? You cant exactly clutch in, neutral, rev, clutch out and put in the next cog like you would a dog box.
  17. Scotty, bit late now. It's all done and all works. They were a new grind of cam (aggressive ramp rates). Having said that, it didn't take much for you to push the spring down while the cams were out. Point is 'catalogue shopping' and taking the blind freddy approach that 'is jap, is good' definitely isn't the right way to do it. Going a little off topic, back to pulling out VCT .
  18. Brett, that shows it quite well. Doesn't exactly crash and bang like I would have thought. I like where they have put the gear display. Cheeky little touch.
  19. Lol. Rightio mate. I'm not talking OEM parts, I'm talking what often is expensive stuff, aftermarket gear. I'll give you an example.HKS step two valve springs used with an aggressive custom made cam valve floated at around 5500 at 20 psi on my own engine. Pulled them out along with the mega dollar Jun Ti retainers and put in a a set from camtech. Not only did it not valve float but the retainers fit the spring much better, also 1/3rd the price! Exhausts, you'd be crazy not to get a custom one made. It'll fit better and not really be much more expensive. Nice pretty sard fuel rail - doesn't have a seat for the injectors to but up against. Waste of cash. Tomei manifolds - not worth the box they came in as they crack. I've personally done two sets and a mate has one off an Evo currently holding down the concrete in his garage. Cracked to hell. That's only a few examples.
