in UFC you don't necessarily need to be a technical fighter, however, most would struggle with anything more than 3 x 3 minute rounds....including myself these days, LOL.
30 seconds of high intensity is like running 1 km flat out........a hit to the solar plexes at this stage would almost see you out, so fitness (apart from some ability) is key.
It also always pays to know your opponents capabilities, ie. you don't go toe to to with a Thai expert (you try and hold him instead) and you don't go to ground against someone who knows basic holds, you won't get up again and you'll either tap out or go to sleep
