  1. Hey Guys, I had my R34 converted to manual 2 months ago and just purchased an R34 manual ECU to change over. After I swapped the ECU over to the manual one, suddenly the TCS OFF & SLIP lights are showing constantly. I went for a drive and the engine ran fine without issues. I did a couple of searches and saw suggestions of coil packs needing replacing, but I find it really weird that after I swapped the auto ecu back, the warning lights don't show? Were there any differences between R34 ECU's over the years? I didn't try to pop a burnout or anything
  2. I just checked my R34 GTT 4-door and there is a hole there but mine just has a rubber bung in it. I guess if it is something for the exhaust, maybe it was optional?
  3. I just thought I'd add, I am thinking there are some small differences between the R34 manual and auto ECU's, besides the auto gearbox logic. I've noticed when slowing down, the revs will only drop down as far as 1200 rpm, then even when putting the clutch in they will stay at that level until the car comes to a complete stop - at which time they drop down to idle speed straight away. Might be to keep the torque convertor spinning or something? Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but may be worth adding that a proper R34 manual ECU is recommended. The car still runs fine but I just find it slightly annoying thats all
  4. Where are you located?
  5. For anyone interested in rough conversion costs, here is my tally: $1500 R33 manual Gearbox with shifter, pedals, flywheel, crossmember, clutch lines and cylinders $680 new Xtreme DCB heavy duty clutch kit (incl. pressure plate and thrust bearing) $10 new scopot bearing $300 new speed sensor (from nissan) $10 bellhousing bolts $600 installation ------------------- $3100 TOTAL Would have been sub $3000 if not for the speed sensor. I was considering buying a manual skyline BUT in my opinion the risk of buying another car is that you can't always spot all of it's faults and I preferred to stick with my R34 because I KNOW it's in great condition mechanically and I've spent a lot looking after it.
  6. Awesome guide mate. I now have an R34 GTT manual sedan here It helped me gather all the parts and then I had a local garage do the conversion. The only things that were missing were the bellhousing bolts (I thought the ones off the auto box could be used, but obviously not) and my manual box needed a new speed sensor. The guys were not so keen on leaving one of the clutch pedal bolts out so they modified the bracket to suit. On my car the R33 shifter gets into 1st 3rd and 5th easily without having to trim the gaitor, and it falls perfectly to hand so in my case I won't bother getting an R34 shifter. Just have to wait for my new gear surround to turn up and It'll be done I had to go back to work so I only took it for a quick spin, but the difference is massive! Now I understand why people say it's like having a new car! I'll have a low KM tiptronic box and shifter up for sale soon
  7. I saw this a few nights ago on japan yahoo auctions - first time I ever knew they were made: http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m70743547 You could bid on it through importmonster if you really were desperate for it, but don't expect much change (if any at all) out of $1000 by the time it gets to you... http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?url=h...20nismo%20300km
  8. It's the belt slipping as the aircon compressor kicks in. Mine used to do it at higher revs but it can still happen at lower revs- you just may not hear it. Ask a mechanic to tighten the belt if required and it should all be sweet. Alternatively the belt may be old and need to be replaced.
  9. yeahh no
  10. Anyone? Willing to pay $100 for a good one.
  11. Spotted a black R34 2-door that was heading south on the Bruce H'way near Glasshouse at around 3pm this arvo, giving me a bloody big wave from the other side - I waved back but not sure if you saw. I was on the way home after picking up my new 5speed box
  12. Hey guys, Like the topic says, I am after an R34 manual gear boot and plastic surround in good condition. If anyone's got one please send me a pic and how much you'd want for it. I am on the sunshine coast and can pickup from Brisbane, but would be willing to pay for post if from interstate. Cheers.
  13. I've had one of the varex 3" twin tipped models on my R34 GTT for about 6 months now. Never had any issues and have been extremely happy with it!! I had a 3" stainless exhaust and split dump pipe put on at the same time, and honestly, I doubt the loudness is illegal even when it's fully open. It is a good muffler but nowhere near as loud as a cannon. But that's exactly what I like about it - still a nice flowing straight through muffler with an awesome note, and you can shut it up at a press of a button. In my case I think it's actually quieter than stock with the valve closed! I've been meaning to get a video of it in action but never got around to it.
  14. that james morrison has less charisma than charlie cox! warren is crappy with interviews and did an equally bad job at commentating the star lap. that reversing challenge would have managed to be cool and funny if the UK guys did it, but the aussie guys said almost nothing of any value the whole time and wrecked it. none of them have any personality!!
  15. guys.. the pic shown is the 'urge' concept car from 2006. read the article:
  16. I've got a silver R34 GTT sedan. Around Noosaville most days! There are 2 other silver R34 sedans getting around though so if you don't get a wave, it ain't me
  17. G'day mate. There are quite a few skylines around but most don't seem to respond to waves Coupl'a guys on here though!
  18. Sorry i missed your post! I was at the lights just up the road as you pulled out - awesome car mate
  19. sounds like the one!
  20. spotted a two tone dark blue & black R32 on gympie road this morning, and R35 GTR turning into Newmarket Road around 3pm
  21. if they've been flat or sitting with low pressure in the same spot you'll probably feel the flatspots when you start to drive it. they usually come good after a while though
  22. In my opinion it's useless comparing the 4sp auto from an R34 to the 6sp auto in the R35 - they are completely different beasts. And I'm not even going to get into the debate of automatic sports cars. The original question about the R34 GTT Auto - they are not too bad, and have their pros and cons compared to a a proper manual. As far as an auto box goes, they're way better than what's in the equivalent year falcons or commodores. In tiptronic mode the torque converter locks up in every gear at around 3000rpm allowing you to rev it out to the red line without the rev flaring effect you get out of a typical auto, it'll also remain locked when you're off throttle too, enabling you to use the engine to slow down. The revs can flare on full throttle gear changes though and the gear ratios are not as nice as the 5sp manual. Auto's will always be better in stop start traffic but the power loss from them is higher than a manual. I am certainly happy with the auto in my R34 however you'd have to be crazy to think it's better/quicker than the 5sp manual.
  23. followed an R34 GT 4door through noosaville this afternoon.. it was being driven by one of the oldest guys i've ever seen! balding very badly, and what hair was left on his head was almost white. i was like, whoa, that's not something you see everyday!
  24. that's correct. it's basically a hollow shell of a racing series designed to keep commo's and falcons selling. pretty piss poor really, isn't it.
  25. hahaha, nope - mine's silver mate. but i know the guy you mean, i've seen him around too.
