Are The V8's Gonna Be Up A Creek Without A Paddle?
Roy replied to Black Widow's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Does anyone motorsport fan actually agree with what Cochraine is doing to the sport? Its a big call, but maybe its time another voice is heard. V8s are a formula that has been around for 15 years now, so how good can its shelf life really be. If it starts killing off the countries race tracks then fark them. I will give up going to my local rounds in protest . It will save me a small fortune to boot -
Sad times ahead for Williams. I will bet money that Rosberg will be gone at years end. He simpy cant afford to play ball at Williams any longer. He needs to jump ship soon before a new flock of it drivers enter the ranks. But where to. Heidfeld needs to continue driving like a champion at BMW to keep his seat. Kubica wont be going anywhere whilst Ferrari have contracted drivers. The only teams i can see pickingup Rosberg are Renault longside Alonso or Honda. I can only really see Alonos leaving Renault for Nicks seat at BMW, in which case Renault would kill for Rosberg over the other drivers on the market. Nick and Rosberg could be an interesting pairingat Renault. LOL, after beingtold a few weeks ago that the driver market was about to go into overdrive it looks like it has slowed down

He was up the GTRs clacker from just after the bridge. I simply think he was having too much fun giving the big GTR on street tyres a hurry up.

Yeh, im a coward so went for 17 x 8.5 + 30

I suggest to anyone that has built a great car, they get me to drive it. If the thing is quick with me driving it then you get to claim all the merit for the cars speed with a handicapped driver.

Fark , looks great. Only one problem. I bought the same wheels about 4 weeks ago and now i cant use them. No way my car is going to look as good as yours

Peddler, i am liking what i read. BUT, i keep coming back to what size fields does Superlap want to see? I suspect unless you cater for private individuals driving their own street cars in a street class, you will lose out overall as entries will drop. Now does this matter? I dont know? Will the event survive with only 36 cars in Open Class, or do you want to encourage the 29 guys running around in the street class? I dont know. It is motorsport, so there is the requirement for driver to be up to the job. But even in motorsport there are Jr classes and feeder classes, but thats why CAMS clubs run sprint rounds and driver training places have work Mon to Fri. LOL, just do a Lewis Hamilton and be so one eyed blind in your own ability so that you will take on all comers...im going to go with that and just rely on my wit and BS to talk up my own ability and causes for lack lustre lap times Also, why is poor Bozz being singled out? I suppose he was the only hired hun in Clubman?

Yeh, good points. When talking to people and reading posts i am not sure what i think of the situation. I can completely understand a passionate enthusiast who has spent plenty of time and money on his car and really wants to see what the car can do. Enter a good steerer and fella like John Boston. I can also see how other competitors in the street class are frustrated by having to forfeit that last little bit of pace to a better driver/car package. Mainly because of the driver part of things. SO????? I think at the end of the day i personally welcome a borrowed steerer. I dont care enough about winning to care, and i love the challenge of going up against better drivers and improving to the point that one day i can get close. I never matched the times Peter Hackett did in my car, despite about 18 months of trying, though i ended up going close But i think the big reason why their should be a class for owners and their cars (be it street or some other class) is that there are those that for whatever reason have to step aside every now and then for a year or two. So in which case you need some other cars and competitors coming along developing cars. It is with this consideration that i feel a class should cater for the guy in his own equipment closer to the starting point of car development and who has enough of a sniff to keep developing the car and their skills. In a year or three they may step to the Open Class and you may have another competitive car. If they guy isnt getting the fun of piloting his own car in a more suitable Jr class then perhaps the development of newer cars may be hindered??? Anyway, you can never leep everyone happy. For me now that the event is done i am dirty i missed it. I cant believe ever since Saturday night i have been thinking about cancelling my OS job/holiday and getting my wagon back on track and see how i go next year. The fact that i am even entertaining the idea is proof that this event holds a plenty of appeal, even to people who have done years of club sprint stuff.

Well i went to a public school and to this day still sniff a lot of glue. So ignore me

LOL, apologies for the scratched record Russ....i cant believe you werent tag teaming the R35 and the R33. The R35 for when you had a session and wanted an update on the footy score. And the R33 for when you wanted to rupture an ear drums. It was good to see the R33 in the flesh again! As is Adz had the screaming RB department pretty mcuh to himself. Does anyone know if the ADVAN R33 GTR still runs twin TD06s?

But who cares what rpm things happen. You want to know what road speed its happening. No point in a guy grabbing the same turbo setup as me and expecting my results if he has std diff ratio, R33 gearbox and 19" wheels. The rpm he makes the power may be similar, but the road speed will be way different, with my car actually making loads more power sooner and leaving him for dead from a rolling start at 80km/h, or from corner exit of a 90km/h corner. You need to look at what road speed you are getting the job done. It often highlights that no matter how small and responsive your turbo, and compromised top end. You may still end up with crappy power delivery coming out of a corner at 90km/h. Its smarter to drop wheel size or increse wheel size, or change diff ratio so that you can make way more top end power and still have usable power at corner exits. The original poster is talking about using the 20 for motorsports...so gearing and where your power hits the road is more important then looking at the motor in isolation. Most already apprecaite the subtle difference, but sometimes is worth repeating

Oh Fatz, i would give you the keys to my car. But i do really believe you are a man ahead of your time. I dont think people would be prepared to witness the outcome. They sure wouldnt be able to use words to describe what they would see

... was there laps at EC in the R31 with the bbq in back?
-
Yeh, shows the proximity to the car in front coming up to a blind crest just before a big stop where a car has already rolled He should have been using a lot more grey matter. LOL, his line also shows why he was quick, he was really hammering over the ripple strip, looks to be very little ground clearance in that shot! He was up the thing for sure! Shame, because he was quick and hammering out good times, just didnt seem to make any sense , unless he was trying out for the Blue Angels or the Roulettes.

I woudl strongly suggest that when looking at turbo setups on RB20s forget where they make boost. Look at the torque curves and look at road speed not rpm as the indicator of when its making power. Forget boost and forget rpm. Even when they are makign boost way earlier they are nto really making any more power then other setups that walk away over 4,400rpm

I suppose he was busy with work It was the first car i went looking for, was keen to see a few R32 GTSt with good power and how they handled the back part of OP. Adz seems to be struggling with his and it has even less power then a 30 would be making. And Johhny P, surely there is a panel shop out there that will do you the service of spraying the old girl for some panel space on what has to be one of the coolest and more original cars getting around at the tracks of the east coast? A liclk of paint and some tidy up and it would be a new car!

Someone, sooner or later is going to have to pull their fingers our and grab a new HKS GT-SS for their RB20DET, i have rad they are listed as for sale in T3 flange, but i have not actually seen one for sale on yahoo or perfectrun. Surely he best option for what you are needing. Provide good power through basically std sized wheels, just with more modern aerodynamics and steel wheels permitting a bit more boost up the thing.

BUT, NSW > Victoria

Cant see how you came 4th last? You were miles ahead of all of us walking around wishing we were out there Where is Barons little S13 when we needed it. It would have done real well around there. LOL, just needs 3k worth of rubber and pads

LOL, welcome to the world of tight assdum and R32 GTSts -
And, im curious. If a car hits a car at a sprint, its a sad thing to happen that nobody is happy about. So noone should be lynched, sometimes these things happen. But, am i alone in thinking that it cant be allowed to happen? If a driver hits another car from the rear under brakes then they should be asked to park the car and not considered in the results? Again, its not a good thing to happen for anyone, and accidents happen, but its very serious and happened at a dangerous part of the track. Personally i think that even though its a tough call and hard decision, if you hit another car under brakes at a sprint event, then they should be made to sit out the rest of the day. Especially since the officials didnt have that many flag points and were not using blue flags, the following driver has to give the competitor ahead on the road enough space that they can avoid them should they have a moment. Anyway, i hope that is taken as a constructive comment, as it was a good event. Only i feel rather strongly about this sort of thing happening, and as unfortunate as it is, it cant be tolerated. There was no oil down etc, it was just a matter of a competitor following another far too closely

Craig and John are two fo the nicest bloks you are going to meet who really give that car hell ! It is the best sound GTR out there, closely followed by Mark and Russ's car. The main thing is the amount of noise comign out the tail pipe on gear changes, you hear the bassy boom resonate accross the whole race track

Top effort Ant!

Yeh Brett is ace! I know at present that Cockrains is looking for a replacement in the next 24 months or so. He i walkign away from the sport and cant imagine the mess it could be in at that time. Good thing is we still have some good teams. I mean do you really thing Triple 888, Prodrive and the foreign teams are going to hang around if the rules geta shake up and running a race team is no longer profitable? Hmmm. Mismanagement may mean our tin top series ends up looking like the ARC

To me the only thing i cared about after lap 10 was who stopped when. Webber had the same fuel as Heikki and Lewis was a tad heavier. Im going to make a call from out of my ass. British GP was Heikkis high water mark, he will from here on he will struggle at McLaren. He was lighter, had field position, and the heavier Lewis just drove away from him and ended up beign lapped. That has got to hurt! But, i am taking any positive i can out of this weekend. RBR were quick at a track they never have been. So really looking forward to the next few races and seeign what sort of car they present at a race weekend. But the other great thing. Webber saying "Unfortunately I dropped it on the entrance to Becketts on the first lap". No excuses, knows he made a mistake and has copped to it. No doubt will move and and learn from the mistake !
