R32 Master Cylinder Upgrade
Roy replied to Footnah's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you are going custom setup then buy the custom bits to suit your car. For me that means stay with std master. Different sized masters come with different springs in them which chage the front - rear bias or the knee point in which they pressurise the front to rear braking circuits. Often not a big deal but something to be careful of as I know a friends braking problems were associated with this issue. Slap the largest rotor that will fit inside your wheel....sounds like you are running a 17" wheel so 332 x 32mm is a safe size. leave your rears alone and just find a front caliper in teh Willwood catalague with piston sizes around the 38/34mm size. I stil think if you have a 1500kgs 4 dr with grunt and grip the 325mm rotor will struggle in which case just go and grab soem used R33 GTR calipers and 324mm rotors and see how they do. Far cheaper than going custom -
Stop being weak and go the big boys. My Alcons look the same to the eye as the Advantage Extreme that you are running but they take a bigger rotor in 380 x 35.5. That is about the smallest diameter you should run and they take up to 410mm! But the real benefit is the extra 3-4mm in width and vane size. IF braking is borderline than you have a rather epicly powerful and probably heavy car and 5mm rotor diam will make stuff all difference. Not unless that diam increase also means a change from 48 vane rotorss to 72 vane for instance

There is two parts to that. A) It is a non event. He unwound some lock to go around Alonso. I dont call that a swerve! BUT, the second Part B) Was that it did have the potential to be far more dangerous than it was. If Lewis was checking steering wheel...looking in the crowd for a lad boy etc then it coul dhave been comical like the GP2 stuff up
-
So pottering around at 60km/h is a problem? It wasnt pretty but hardly dangerous! If either Merc had to swerve to avoid then fair enoguh but the fact they took a long arc around the Fezz suggests they saw it with plenty of time. Webbers other two offences are were I think the Canada yellow flags where I recall Button and others all got done and the clash with Rosberg at I cant reember which GP. From memory it was a BS clash and warning...but seems to have added up to bite him the ass. Three trumped up BS issues have now cost him any chance of a strong Korean GP. And dont get me started on safety. If you saw the cluster fark cauised by officials in GP2 then you woudl understand why I think this is a bit of a joke

That is a farking joke!!!!!!!!!

Romain & Webz both unlucky
-
What sort of dyno is that and what dispacement engine? Is it an auto or manual? Seems a rather odd-amazing result.
-
Come on Romain!

Any more news? I am over the old school monster compressor turbo on my Cossie and looking at a 7064 for it. Being a 2L 4 cylinder your results on an SR are a good indication of what I can expect

Well if you think your sizinf is correct it will be interesting to see how it all goes then. I think no matter what caliper you do if you are looking at crunching out good times and your 4dr is AWD I think 325mm rotors wont last much longrer than std, irrespective of the caliper and ducting/pads etc you use -
Are you sure its 2'? That will kill gas velocity and make it a biot of a dog...or so I would have assumed?

For the sake of the discussion what is rubbish about the std setup? Assuming you were running std caliper with 280mm rotors? What pad were you running? Did you find the stopping distance rubbish, feel rubbish, fade rubbish? All of the above? Do you have ABS? Sure. go to a bigger rotor, best value brake upgrade you can do. But increasing rotor size increase brake torque. If you massively increase piston diameter as well then you will be increasing the fron brakign torque by a boat load...only to have no real rear brakign torque....onlyu to have to put in a massive master cylinder or change the leverage ration of the pedal...either way you are going to need to put in adjustable brake bias to tone down the amount of braking force you have at the front which brings us back to the original point.....why increase the front brakign torque by sooo omuch? -

Have you bought the calipers yet? If not buy the right caliper and you wont need to upgrade the BMC. BMC size isnt a performance thing...its a sizing thing. If you want better performing brakes for your Skyline you really only need to increase the heat dissipation....not the braking force. They have plenty std and are well balanced std. On an R32 perhaps they can do with a bit more bias. But you are getting that increasing the rotor size. So what model caliper are you using . They can often be purchased with different sized pistons, get the right caliper and you are set -
In part that is why I want Hulk at Lotus. Smashing Massa achieves nothing. beating Hulk in the same car over a season will concrete Romain in as top of the Tier 2 drivers. He just needs to get his head in gear....he does seem rather fragile mentally. Vs Maldanado that runs into everyone and is 100% convinced all others are in the wrong.

My 2c ... chinese manifolds crack not due to absence of support or purging...its purely down to the fact that there isnt any penetration. I have only looked at 3-4 China manifolds but none of them had any penetration. Even my old Greddy manifold only had intermittent penetration. Purging of course helps ontrol peno without cauliflower so is related.

Oh Hungary...Da Costa helped his chance of securing ab STR seat on the weekend

I am in contact with lots of people. They generally tell me to get farked but I am in contact with them. I refuse to follow Kimi to Fezz so need to hope Lotus sign someone in the second seat who I can get behind. I would hate it to be Massa. Would rather the seat go to Valsecchi or soem young punt who may or may not be fast. You would have to have rocks in your head to not take Hulk if you were Lotus, There was some talk that Smedley is going to Williams, who have been recruiting some good technical people ahead of next year. I like Bottas but can see them signing a Massa and putting Bottas out to pasture for a year.

What rotor size?My opinion is 1.75" pistons are waaay too big unless you want to be locking up all the time -
ewww...i Just stepped in RB25!
-
KImi is...but you need someone to barrack for. There have been races where Romain has been told to move over and others where he has compromised his race to give Kimi max points. He isnt running round sooking...just moving over for Kimi in what, 2 of the last 4 races?
-
Why, he is quality! Had his dramas. Showed his class and was beating Hulkenburg in GP2 before stepping up to Renault mid season only to be dumped for Petrov and money. Went off into the wilderness...smashed the 2011 GP2...came out strong early last year and should have won in Spain but for mech failure. He IS MEGA QUICK. His mistakes...yes...but the guy is such a champ. All smiles, great attitude, doesnt come from money or with big sponsors. His support of the powers to be within the Renault family are because of talent. Hell he working as a bank clerk all up until stepping into the Renaul F1 car. He may be a rough diamond at the moment but if he can polish up his speed....he will be special in the right car. LOL and I like backing a nice guy!

It would be a poor decision to take Massa because he is experienced? He has driven for two teams. And frankly his understanding of the fat and slow to respond Fezz isnt going to help Lotus where they need lean thinking and targetted feedback. He knows how Sauber worked and how Fezz work...he has hardly looked motivated the past 2 years. Huk has 3 full racing seasons in F1, one as a tester for 3 different teams. He has gained valuable experience at Sauber this year where he would have been forced to grow and lead the team as the rookie team mate is a hack vs team mates like Di Resta and Rubens....the guy has the right balance of experience and hunger. He will be looking to make the most of the opportunity whilst Massa will walk aroun talking about how the team doesnt have the resources of Fezz. Its a mute point anyway as i am blindly hoping that Romain comes into his own...one good result and the guy will be unstoppable. Just needs that confidence back. Get it on the front two rows in a decent car and we is a threat I wouldl hate for Massa to sign for Lotus AND I think its a rubbish idea.
-
Hulk would get beat by Romain...but I am biased I think Monza was the first time I have not seen Hulk throw the car away or do something stooooppid when in a good spot. Not saying romain is anyworse, but he has had loads of races where he has shown amazing wheel to wheel race craft...sadly its often punctauted by poor clashes that detract from his good races. Was it Korea of India last year where he had some amazing battles with Shcuey and others?
-
Im with Wolverine. Like Button Kimi is the other WDC guy you can throw in a car and not upset a slightly more prexious driver. Just like Kimi would be good at RBR with Seb I think it will work at Ferrari. I think you will see just how amazingly on it Alonso always is....he rarely mises a trick
