  1. LOL... just a tremor. Nothing fell. Seems like your place was harder hit.
  2. I think they are well aware that they are losing money with each tank, but it's only for an hour once in a blue moon, and the operator wanted to send a message. And publicity you couldn't buy.
  3. Lol, I would love to but kinda hard to do when they are driving. If I see a parked skyline I will though. Hopefully the execs will bring a whole stack to the next cruise so I can get some.
  4. He must've filled up at a refinery or something. The cheapest petrol in the world is generally regarded to be in Venezuela, where the govt heavily subsidises the petrol (thinks it's around AU3-4c/L)... so much so that it is a huge drain on the economy. Sierra Leone's petrol is like AU$5/L, which is just plain scary. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/...icle1463274.ece
  5. Yes.... through the 20000km undersea tunnel linking Australia and Britain
  6. Alright, sounds like the 3W is the go. From the old threads it sounds like you've had a CB for years on the cruises, so I am relying on your experience. Cool - I will be in for the group buy of the 3W ones. Ash has convinced me the 1.5W are probably too weak. I noticed the car charger doesn't actually power the transceiver ie., you can't charge it while it is in operation, you have to turn it off, so not sure whether it is useful as it takes 10-14hrs to charge and your car battery has to be on for all that time. A spare battery pack for the same/cheaper money pre-charged at home sounds like a better idea? We should get the radios before next month's GOR cruise for those who don't have one yet like me. Oh, BTW, I'm assuming everyone has CTCSS? If not, I guess that means you can't tune into the subchannel... I have also attached the DC1060 (Digitech 3W) manual I found off the net. It is shit quality, but the best I can do. There is no actual digitech website DC1060_User_Manual.pdf
  7. Christ! $500 for a CB radio is way out of my price range. The antenna is much less obtrusive than I thought, though.

  9. Fantastic. On the link the price for 5+ is $151.95 ea. You must have pretty awesome contacts to get them for $110.59 ea for 5+. From your experience, do you really need a 3W/12km handheld or can you get away with a 1-1.5W one? Has anyone had probs with poor signal strength/dropout on cruises with these? I am only going to use it for cruises. Any chance you could get the cheaper 1.5W for cheaper than RRP? http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...mp;SUBCATID=760 BTW, what is the difference between digital code squelch, CTCSS and scramble? Thanks.
  10. I was doing some light reading on the net, and trying to find which features to look out for. Please correct me if I'm wrong: - At least 1W power - CTCSS: Essentially sets up a private sub-channel by sending a sub-audible tone from the transmitter/encoder that is only able to be received/decoded by the receiver if it is using the same CTCSS code. - Duplex: to extend the range of the signal via repeater stations - Auto squelch: to suppress white noise from weak signals I am guessing CTCSS is the most important feature for us especially when cruising in populated places. We don't want to hear random conversations every 5 mins when we pass into other people's radio zones on the same channel. Pity the ones with this technology are more expensive. The next thing is I am guessing at least 1W power is important for us and 0.5W is inadequate as sometimes rocks and things block the line of sight transmission?? ie., GOR cruise. The handhelds with these two features (naturally they have the more commonplace duplex and auto squelch functions as well) are priced from around $70-80 each in DS/Jaycar and online just over $100 for the pair of aforementioned Motorola ones. Does that sound about right?
  11. Whoa you serious? I checked the Dick Smith website and what you're talking about is $199. http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro...duct/View/D1962 Did you get it on special or something? Which DS did you go to? Because just over $100/pair of 1W with CTSS/DCS is an awesome bargain! I thought SAU Vic used ch40 in the past according to the old threads. But I thought that was a repeater channel? Cool thanks.
  12. OK that's good to hear. Any suggestions on brands? Main two from brick-and-mortar stores seem to be Dick Smith's Uniden (which is used quite widely) and Jaycar's Digitech (which I have never heard of, but slightly cheaper I think). Had a look on eBay too, wasn't much cheaper, but found this motorola pair for a cheap price. http://www.batteryshack.com.au/product_inf...products_id=287 Anyone had any experience with these? Motorola's a decent company one would assume, and the price is around 70% cheaper than the Uniden/Digitech ones. Couldn't find one review on the net though. That would be good. I would definitely be in if it's a decent group discount deal.
  13. Lol guess my next car needs to have paddle shifts... R35 FTW! Out of curiosity - why do people need more than 1? Not for cruising, surely?
  14. LOL? Are you a Palestinian?
  15. No probs Oh, now I understand what you meant by dedicated. Crikey 8k is waaay too much to pay for more boot space.
  16. Lol... ringing/texting everyone must be a pain. It's kind of confusing when some people decide to leave the cruise, and then others just follow them accidentally lol. That's why I guess you need to know where you're going, as you said. On another note, I just found out that it is still 40ch, but "Please note CH 22 & 23 are used for telemetry and telecommand applications, voice communications are not permitted on these channels and transmission is inhibited." Also do people use the flexible wire interior glass mounted antenna?
  17. Er.. I thought the tank replaces the spare? Oh wait... I think you were joking? Not sure... written word doesn't convey a lot of overtone If I were ever going LPG (eg., if petrol, diesel, coal and hydrogen became extinct) I would go with run-flats and the liquid injection tank in the spare wheel well. Dedicated ones eat up too much of my boot space!
  18. Hey guys, just wanted to start a thread to find out some more info on these things - excuse the noobness. Did a search and only turned up a few 5-7 year old threads and a couple of interstate ones. All the group buys have long finished. People were talking about 40ch radios back then. Now it's 38ch? Did 2 channels get locked in the intervening time or something? - I've never used one of these things. Does everyone just tune into one channel and within a certain radius eg., 5 km everyone can talk to each other by just pushing to talk? I'm assuming it works very well for cruises? - Most people would have the cheaper handheld ones right? Can you just leave it on your dashboard and listen to the conversations? - When you want to talk isn't it a pain to drive a manual as well as hold a handset? Do people use headsets? - I read in the old threads the debate about how much power you need eg., 0.5 vs 1 vs 5W etc, ostensibly the higher the wattage the larger the radius and/or the clearer the transmission. Do people put the CB/UHF radio antenna on their Skylines? Are these the ones? http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?FORM=CAT Where/how do they mount it? Haven't actually seen a skyline with a CB aerial, and didn't want to start drilling holes in my car. - Most importantly... is anyone thinking of a group buy? In the old threads Jaycar seemed popular due to the approx 20% discount you get with bulk (10+) purchases. Thanks very much. I am keen to get one of these, but wanted to find out how many people actually use them (obviously it would be a waste of money for me if no-one else used them on cruises).

Was the cop blind? "No damange?" wtf? Yes... the hole in your bumper is a.. brake cooling duct.
  20. Looks great. Increases power, economy and unobstrusive. Love it. One question though... what happens when you get a flat tyre? Mazdas are good cars. They seem to sweep all the small-to-medium car awards.

  22. Never heard of it until these three cases in the last few months: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/09/...l?from=storyrhs http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/332910...-cigarette.html http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/wife-j...2818413587.html I'm assuming the govt subsidy for LPG conversion and the high price of petrol few months back caused a large increase in LPG vehicles on the road, so maybe it's just probability at play, but it makes me dislike LPG even more (apart from the fact you end up with no boot space). If you're going LPG, I guess the moral of the story is to get it professionally installed and don't smoke in cars!
  23. I'm pretty sure you get fined for 3km/h over the speed limit. I've had speed fines with "exceeded speed limit by under 5km/h" notices.
  24. Whatever they'll do to him, not as bad as the Colombian police force initiation rites... http://www.reuters.com/news/video?videoId=99054 Gives new meaning to the phrase eat shit
