  1. Cool, thanks mate. Next time you come to a cruise, would you mind bringing it along so I can have a peek? Are you coming to the GOR cruise?
  2. Cheers Ash. D'oh - just realised from the thread that my HDD camcorder will likely sh*t itself with all the twisties/G forces corrupting its data. Never thought of solid state cards before now.
  3. Yay, thanks to the person who sent me a bunch of SAU spotted cards in the mail. Now I can spread the love
  4. LOL
  5. Lol kinda glad couldn't make this one. I predict the member's GOR cruise will have a much better skyline turnout
  6. Actually, might have found the answer. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Flexible-Gorillapod...A1%7C240%3A1318 $18 to Gorillapod the videocamera to the holes in the top of the passenger recaro seat. Anyone try this before? Is it stable enough?
  7. Hmmm... had my doubts about whether that cheapo one would actually work. Realistically the only place you can mount it inside is on the dash, as the camera needs to be upright and there is no swivel arm to hang it upside down/sideways. Tried using the suction mount for my GPS unit, which works similarly, on my dashboard and failed miserably. The suckers work well on glass, but not dashboards. Unable to get a good seal. That rules out that one. Need to find one from somewhere that I can suction to the windscreen from the inside, and has an arm so that the camera can be oriented the right way up.
  8. Thanks. The website shows some really expensive mounts, eg., costs $80 to RENT per day. How much did your mount cost? If it costs too much, don't worry about it. My budget was only around $50 anyway.
  9. Hey guys, I plan on taking my camera/video camera along to some cruises. I had a quick look on youtube at the existing SAU Vic cruise videos. The videos cameras are either held by pedestrians or passengers with bad tremors Theren't weren't any stable videos actually showing good quality in-car footage. Just wondering, does anyone have a video camera mounted in their car? I was thinking of doing this but unsure where I would mount it without a roll-cage. Had a search but suprisingly found nothing in the forums. I think it would be awesome to have SAUVic in-car footage of tackling the twisties without getting sick from watching the videos. I found a cheap and nasty made in china one on ebay that looks like it will do the job http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Suction-Mount-Tripo...A1%7C240%3A1318 Anyone have something similar? I am kinda worried that the continuous suction and violent G-forces will damage my dashboard. I really wouldn't want to put it on the windows outside. Cheers (sorry for similar post in gen. auto forum - but I need to order it soon to make it in time for the GOR cruise).
  10. Hi, does anyone have a decent non-rollcage mounting system in their car to take clips when cruising orracing on tracks? I am looking at getting one for the cruises, but not sure what is good. 11. Sorry, funkymonkey, I am pulling out of the group buy (hope you haven't placed orders yet! - if so, let me know). Was dead-set on the 3W digitech before JamesK swayed my mind with his post. Decided to get a similar UHF radio to the one he was talking about. There should still be about 10 people wanting the 3W digitech for group buy. Thanks.
  12. That guy needs a life
  13. Hi all, a GB is starting to form in the Vic forums for UHF CB handheld radios, excellent for cruises. Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with either of these radios? Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the heads-up JamesK. That is indeed a great deal on a 5W, especially for approx $100 on ebay. Having a look on the net some people bag the antenna and manual that come with it. Also the ones on ebay are non-programmable now. I believe it is illegal for them to sell programmable UHF radios on eBay, as the buyer needs a licence, supported by your link "Note: These radios are intended for transmission by LICENCED AMATEURS ONLY. Transmitting on these radios on NON AMATEUR frequencies, or by people not holding a valid amateur radio licence, is NOT PERMITTED under Australian law!" Hmmm... Pros for FDC compared to digitech 1. More power (5W vs 3W) 2. Looks more sophisticated (actually has a numerical keypad) Cons for FDC vs Digitech 1. Less battery life 2. Chinese company not really known outside asia - only distributed by Hong Kong to Australia 3. No sellers/support in Australia, unknown warranty process (at least Jaycar carries the digitech model - so will have repair parts/accessories for it) Not sure what everyone else thinks. Does anyone else own either the 5W FDC or the 3W digitech? Funkymonkey, when you order the 3W digitech, does it come with a receipt for us to photocopy so that we are covered by the 1 year warranty and can just go to any Jaycar and get it fixed if needed?
  15. OK funkymonkey... looks like we've got enough people for the group buy for the 3W ones? Thanks heaps for organising this. People definitely in: 1. Me (+ Vox headset and spare battery pack if available) 2. Joejoejoe 3. llama_au People who I guess are in from their posts: 4. bluejeans 5. bombtrack 6. 180Roman 7. mickey (post to WA) People who may be in: 8. Ash 9. RBPOWA I am very keen to get one soonish for the upcoming GOR cruise. Can the last 6 people please confirm if they definitely want one so that funkymonkey can graciously order them? Thanks, sorry to be a pain.
  16. That also means when you buy a new car you may have unpleasant cop attention because despite being a granny driver, the previous owner may have been dobbed in a lot
  17. 1100: Flawless white R34 GT-R with CF Z-tune black hood/bodykit and plates WIH*** on Russel St, driven by asian guy. No SAU stickers and I don't have any SAU cards to give out 1230: Black R33 GTS-T driven by someone who looks live Vin Diesel on Barkly St, Footscray.
  18. Cool. Funkymonkey - any idea how much shipping 5 units to Melb usually costs? I am keen on getting one of the headsets, just not sure which. Has anyone had experience with voice-activated (VOX) headsets in cars like ours with loud exhausts? Does it start transmitting whenever you gun it? I am also looking into the normal mic headset - I am pretty sure you still need to press the button on the actual handheld eg., no remote function on the headset. I might swing by Jaycar in the city today to get some more info as the net fails at this. I wanted to find out more specs for the thing eg., 3W talk-time. Also whether they sell extra batteries.
  19. Lol, yeah that's exactly what I continued to do The general public get trained to respond to different natural emergencies depending on where they live. We get trained in bushfires as that's what happens here, not earthquakes. In Japan and Taiwan, most of the public are well trained to respond to earthquakes.
  20. 4.7... knew it was a 4
  21. LOL
  22. D'oh - can't get onto website. I guess too many people visiting. Had a quick look at the Richter scaling on wikipedia. It's interesting that they grade it a 2 something, as from the description (indoor items rattling, etc) it sounds more like a low 4?? Maybe seis have their own grading protocol.
  23. Wow - that's decent. Seems like the epicentre was in eastern suburbs then.
  24. Was anyone outside/driving?
