  1. Ok some for, some against, to be expected. Thanks for all the input so far. This thread is going to be a mix of questions for my personal car and more general information but I think the result of both will be useful to people who will end up in my position. I seem to be gleaning that maybe a catch can is less important for someone running E85 because it has so much detonation headroom already. The catch can question just came up amongst this because my blowby hose is cracked and I was looking at replacing the hose or installing a catch can setup. One small obscure piece of information I came across was the clashing space requirements of plenum/injectors/rail. This isn't really made clear in a lot of places. I think seeing as the FFP is going to make most cars that much more defect-able it's not worth the maybe gains, despite how cool I personally think they look. However that brings to life new questions, which injectors will and won't fit under the stock plenum and of those that will fit under the plenum which will fit the stock rail or not. Is there a way to determine this or is it more a case of find someone who's done it before or buy and hope? Is a fuel pressure regulator legal in VIC? My fuel pump says it's not E85 suitable Walbro GSS342, I can't find any information WHY anywhere. Does anyone know if that's just because it generally wouldn't flow enough or there are some other factors? Because I did read a couple of posts somewhere where someone was tossing up doing dual in-tank GSS342's for E85 which makes me think it's just because a single GSS342 wouldn't flow enough. Some of the question might seem a bit off like the flywheel question. I haven't heard of a single person changing their flywheel but I ask because it's mentioned in the original tuning guide. Just like Changing the head gasket at 1.2bar, I've never heard of anyone doing that. Is it just something that is done and not mentioned or...? Is it legal to remove your AFM? I'm guessing no especially in VIC. What modifications ARE legal to allow the running of E85 in a car in VIC? How do I go about collating all this information into my first post? Can't edit it.
  2. You have just confirmed the problem. Many places you must go to get all the answers for a very linear topic. Because there are so many places there is so much wasted duplication. No single source people can go to for reference. Having to read 89 pages of a single thread in hope that you find the information you need amongst the colossal masses of posts. Most of which are useless but you still have to pore over about a thousand responses in a single thread in hope to find and answer to a question that HAS been answered before but not conveniently compiled. Also having a more centralised and complete source of information allows conflicting views to come together and be 'hashed out' Am I really wasting my time? No one sees my point?
  3. Ok so I know we have a lot of information out there but i'm noticing a big gap of information I can't get filled no matter how far and wide I read. Don't think i'm slacking because I literally just read the whole 89 page Guilt Toy on E85 thread in search of answers. What I want to do is extend a bit beyond and add to the great guide: http://nissanskyline.6te.net/tuning_GTS25T.htm which is great for stage one but beyond that becomes a bit wishy washy and makes no mention of E85 It lacks a bunch of information that i'm sure other people will also spend forever hunting for so this thread serves to find out that information and collate it all in this location. This is basically inspired from the fact that I want to go up in rwkw but i've no idea what's entailed and many people give differing answers. So I bought the car with stage one done Already: Exhaust (varies in size from 80mm - 100mm) Intake (not pod, just modified stock box) FMIC Bleed valve boost increase to 15psi / 1bar Power FC Exedy heavy Duty Cluch Walbro GSS 342 fuel pump (22lph (will need to come out for E85) Also came with start of stage 2: GCG Highflow turbo The car's best dyno was 238.9rwkw (Dyno Dynamics at Ace Workshop) And now we move into the unknown territory where I try to find out the truths behind different modifications. What rwkw or other benefits do these yield? Catch Can (Haven't really seen any concrete information on it's usefulness) Fuel pressure regulator (Does this yield results regardless or is this circumstantial? I have heard something about the fuel system pressure triangle (pump, injector, regulator) and they work in synergy somehow) AFM (Does this yield a power improvement?) (Are there advantages to cutting out the AFM with an ECU that doesn't require one?) Injectors (this could use some clarification in terms of what rwkw limits they are good to in terms of 98 and E85) Fuel pump (Why is the Bosch 044 just the pump to go for? just seems overpriced compared to competitors) Stock flywheel limit? Cam gears? Front facing plenum (So much controversy over this one, one person says they love theirs and another person says they wish they never did it) Another thing I have not really been able to understand is the limits of an item such as my GCG highflow. The site says I can expect 240-250rwkw from it at 18-20psi but i've got basically 240 at 15psi. And when I throw E85 into the mix does this completely annul those figures or is that still the limit of the turbo? I asked the question "How much power can I get from the GCG highflow" the response was "How long is a piece of string" so I want to understand that a bit better. Does that mean, the more supporting mods I put on the more it will make or does that mean more along the lines of how far can you push it until it will break, or something else entirely? What i'd love from this really is to build a step by step guide that helps people get the most economical way to gain power. Power gain vs Price and be relevant to pre-requisite modifications. I kind of ran out of steam, let's start there and try and make this a really good bit of info for future searchers
  4. The fuel sender should be clipped onto the right side of the same metal bracket that the fuel pump assembly is on. I should have taken some pictures.
  5. The back of the slider attaches to the metal bracket which has a clip. The clip may come off easily or if may be impossible to get off depending on the degree that the metal is bent. Mine was bent far enough that I could not get it off without removing the whole metal brack and taking it off from the rear of the metal bracket, wedging it open with a screwdriver. The metal bends very easily so some peoples will will off by itself, some will come of easy and some will be impossible to remove but just sliding. Just depend how far up the metal catch is bent. If it doesn't come off easily, just pull the whole metal bracket up and off the fuel tank wall and separate the sender from the back of the metal bracket. I tried to flatten the catch a bit to make it easier to get off next time but I found it was either a case of impossible to get it off or it falls off easily.
  6. so i'm assuming you pulled the whole ufel pump assembly out already? if not do that, just lift up with as much for as necessary there are no clip on the metal bracket. Then the remaining metal bracket with the fuel level sender on the right was basically impossible to remove while still mounted, that whole bracket lifts off where the fuel pump came up, then once it is detached you get access to the back of the fuel sender and separate the sender and metal bracket with a screwdriver or something.
  7. Haha i've never even changed oil on a car before. I got stuck on many points! Disconnecting the subwoofer and emptying the boot Taking the battery out so no stray sparks next to the fuel tank Get the tank panel off Struggle with those plugs for a while Struggle for AGES with the damn fuel lines (that was a battle between not getting them off or destroying them in the process) That big plastic ring thing was damn hard to get off. I thought I was going to cut through it with my screwdriver before it unsealed. Trying to figure out what the f**k was going on in the tank without be able to see involved a lot of pictures and videos on iphone lol Resorting to take off the rear strut brace to get better access to fuel tank (took shifter + mallet to break the seize on the strut screws) Dismounting and disconnecting the amp setup to get to the carpet wall stuff Taking out the carpet wall stuff to get to the side bolts on the strut brace Finally figuring out I need to just yank out the whole fuel pump assembly Literally spending a fee hours trying to get the fuel level sender off the metal bracket Just before having mental breakdown finds a post saying just take the whole bracket of and separate the two after Still takes a while Check my fuel pump make and model & clean the fuel sender which was filthy And then reverse the whole process just a little bit quicker Starting it last night I finished at about 9am this morning sleep time...
  8. %(@#(%&@... 6:20am and i'm still trying to get that fuel sender out. Wish I had never started now.
  9. Interesting point on the oil mods. I'll have to look into what oil mods there are! Feel free to recommend any. Penrite synthetic 5 (5w 60) is another oil I was looking at My PowerFC lists water temp, Could I use the water temp as a guide as to when it's "ready" ?
  10. Coming up to my first service I've done a bit of reading and I was pretty set on Castrol Edge 10w 60 because RacePace uses it. Here are my personal circumstances which may factor in. Melbourne cold (start-up wear?) Daily (And I live next to freeway so short period before on and 100km/h) Track work 240 rwkw So basically I think I might need a lighter oil than 10w 60 oil to help with going from cold start to 100km/h in 1,400m warm up space. Thoughts?

  13. What day/time/location do I go to princess hwy area to find the action? feel free to PM or sms me. 0407 335 443 or email me. [email protected]
  14. I might be needing one soon for E85 just wondering what the cons are of a second hand AFM?
  15. Parked in front of me when I left uni today. Looks hot.
  16. He was having surgery, not sure when he'll be back on.
  17. I'm mechanically challenged, would you consider selling it with a RWC?
  18. Hahaha... it's unfortunate that you're so frustrated over trying to sell it and I was interested in the specs and the possible 300rwkw but after seeing the pictures I just didn't find it aesthetically pleasing so i'm no longer interested. Starting to decide as well that i'm only going to upgrade to a GTR.
  19. Weird not coming back to the thread, but all is not lost I learnt something
  20. Looking forward to next challenges

On the topic of fuel, with the price of 98 hitting $1.70 recently how does the cost of E85 compare? Does it move up in price with 98 or is it getting better and better to run E85?
  22. Thanks Findlay yeah i'm very happy with her i'm just at a crossroads of doing a bunch of mods to her and getting her on E85 or upgrading to a GTR. With regards to price I study economics so I personally don't believe in set prices. I don't want to scare anyone away with a high price thinking it's not negotiable or offer to low initially and short change myself. I let the market (the buyers) show me what the car is worth today. And yes it is indeed the same car but unfortunately I wasn't able to snap it up for $8k due to significant costs to get a RWC with the mods. As that has now been sorted recently she is in a good position to re-sell easily. I'm no longer a buyer so I don't dictate how much the car is worth Thanks for the comments man, pity we didn't get to take her onto the freeway Yeh it hasn't been an issue for the 2 owners before me or myself. I wanted it fixed originally before sale but when I got the car I really didn't see the need. If you want to fix it you just need to get some new intercooler piping.
