Changing R32 Upper Arm Design To R34
djr81 replied to bnr#@'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Well now you have me scratching my head. Will have to have a better look at the suspension when I get home tonight. Attached is a shot from the outside. Not sure about the inside detail as I just sort of assumed they were welded & never really looked. Having said that there are some bastard big nuts inside the tower that are in the right spot.... Here is the link to the Nismo site: http://www.nismo.co.jp/en/products/competi...ylinebnr32.html -
Changing R32 Upper Arm Design To R34
djr81 replied to bnr#@'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Well the first thing needed is to grind off the mounting bracket from the suspension tower & weld on a new one. Which will make no end of a mess of the paintwork to start with. Having said that even the Nismo front arm/lower link package relocates the mounting point so there may be something in it. Typically the upper links appear to wear more than the others. It is probably just as easy to make yourself a new upper link the way you want it. There are more than enough bush sets available to come up with something reasonable. -
What To Look For When Buying A Skyline
djr81 replied to livo's topic in Australian Capital Territory
The wheel arch will probably be the guard liner, which is plastic. Eg like this: -
In news just in the FIA have announced that entire field will be demoted by ten places on the grip for the Chinese GP. Maybe the FIA shoudl GTFO & let the drivers sort it out between them. Handbags at ten paces.... I can't even begin to understand why Bourdais was penalised.

Clutch Fan Vs Electric Cooling Fan
djr81 replied to Nimmo's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Most front wheel drive cars run them simply becasue they have transverse engines. There is nothing much wrong with a fun using a viscous clutch or the plastic bendy blades. Neither is there much wrong with thermo fans. The key is to get the ducting right. Unducted fans are hopeless compared with a properly set up unit. -
I was looking at the DL1 site for their equipment. Looks good if pricey. Can be had at 20Hz. On the upside it has sufficient inputs for the stuff you want to log. 4 0 - 5 V analog ins (Two are needed for steering angle, one for front torque (I assume is 0 - 5V) and one for throttle % ) Rpm input. 4 frequency inputs (wheel speed?) 40- 12V digital input - one for brakes? Plus they sell all the other nice bits like attachments, plugs, aerials etc etc. Also, this book may be interesting: http://www.race-technology.com/racecar_dat...ion_2_7574.html

May be a bit harsh to pass judgement on the bloodnut as the car was a complete dog at Bathurst. Didn't do him any favours a PI either. But yes Frosty has pretty much toasted him all year. Skaife made a little mistake? Was that the first or the second time he stuffed it into the wall? Now how can I get my car to sound like Larrys?
-
According to the nice folk at Starlane their logger works at 5 Hz.
-
Skaife will only be removed with a crowbar. Having said that his form slump has been pretty dramatic this year. What odds Davison getting the HRT drive? Good work by the two exiled WPS drivers. Shame to see most of the roughies drop the ball at the end. The Bottle-O mob, #22 HRT, #17 (harsh penalty though) & 18 aswell. Courtney drove a blinder but SBR must be spewing about the fuel economy 888 got out of the same engines as they are running. Murphy was lucky his head didn't explode near the end. Did anyone see the Porsches get airborn over the bumps at the end of conrod. Freaky sh!t. Now get out there & check your Dunlops for delamination.

R32 Master Cylinder Changeout
djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes. As far as I can tell other than the casting marks on the side & part number there are no external differences between the two units. So I expect the Cusco stopper to work the same. -
Transfer Case Rebuild Or Upgrades Who Does Them?
djr81 replied to some_cs_student's topic in Victoria
Well the front diff was cactus & the clutch pack was out of tolerance which was put down to the vibration from the diff causing issues. The symptoms were pretty vague - you get noise/vibration from the gearbox area sometimes - the sometimes being when the attessa is trying to supply a small amount of torque to the front wheels. As I said check the front diff - dropping the cover off & checking for wear/backlash is easy. Removing the gearbox/transfer case & ripping it all apart is less so. -
Couple roughies in the top ten for qualifying. Perkins appears to be in world of pain. As does Garry Rogers. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....10/2008.MOUN.Q5

Ah, ok. Cheers. Sounds like a job for Captain Cable Tie. -
V8 Supercar driver Paul Weel is expected to be cleared of any serious injury following a heavy accident during practice at the Bathurst 1000. V8 Supercar driver Paul Weel is expected to be cleared of any serious injury following a heavy accident during practice at the Bathurst 1000 Friday. Weel, 29, had to be extracted from his PWR Holden after a collision with Team Kiwi Racing driver Chris Pither. Pither walked away, while Weel is experiencing some lower back pain and has been airlifted to Nepean Hospital as a precaution. Pither and Weel will take no further part in the weekend though, with both cars suffering extreme damage. The accident occurred near the McPhillamy Park area of the circuit, when Weel made contact with a safety barrier and slid sideways onto the track and Pither slammed into the driver's side door.

Hope so. I will do a compare & contrast for you over the weekend. -
R32 Master Cylinder Changeout
djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Not yet mate. Usually takes 2 full weeks for stuff to arrive. WA being so remote & all. So at best today, probably next week. Forgot to ask you about hoses. Are the threads etc same as for ordinary Skyline Brembos? Pharken Japanese holidays means I didn't get my usual email from *insert random name of Japanese parts supplier here* telling me the rims are a further 2 weeks delayed. So I will have plenty of time to bling up the callipers. -

I bought: Nissan Brake Master Cylinder R32 GTR (46010-05U02): 36,100 yen Shipping: 3,700 yen (to WA probably cheaper to over east) From Greenline. I didn't think it was that cheap but it got sent quickly, to my door & in retrospect: BARGAIN. -
Hmm Davo P5 in #18 with a 2.07.6667 but Owen P4 in #17 with a 2.07.6607. So why did djr chuck so much money at Courtney to come on board? Skaife in P13. What happened to his mojo? http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....0/2008.MOUN.P10

Transfer Case Rebuild Or Upgrades Who Does Them?

I went through this on my GT-R. Best advice is check the front diff before you do anything else. Second thing to keep in ming is that the ATTESSA clutch pack has an end piece/shim. These vary in thickness & you need the right thickness to ensure the system works properly. Nissan Australia DO NOT carry stock of this part. So your car will sit in a workshop for weeks..... -
Maybe - they are short odds for a podium. I just don't think they will have that last little bit of speed near the end. Here is hoping Junior doesn't stick it in the wall this year (again). Would be a popular result if they did manage it, however. It would certainly make me smile. Garf fastest this morning with a 2.06.99. Murph is up there too, so good on him. #18 P5 & Wargbanna is doing a bang up job.

This may be helpfull. Should be easy enought o nut out. Temps were from a turbo rotor with an unshielded airbod. What you are seeing is pretty normal. Results from dry road testing on the weekend. Conditions: Ambient 15 deg. Drive down hwy at 100 k's, brake and accelerate from 2nd gear throught to 8000 rpm in 4th, cruise for about 30 sec and the accelerate from 3rd gear to 8000 rpm in 4th. Stop and idle for about 45 seconds shortly after. Temps at 8000 rpm in 4th for first test: air filter 48 after turbo 117 after I/C 45 throttle body 51 Temps at 8000 rpm in 4th for second test: air filter 47.3 after turbo 122.6 after I/C 45.9 throttle body 53 Temp at air filter after stationary at idle for about 45sec was 84 deg! Thermo fans switched on and filling engine bay with hot air obviously.

Sorry I may not have explained myself well enough. You can easilly derive acceleration data (ie lateral & longitudinal) from GPS position data. What I was trying to say was that presented graphically it is more useful when plotted against distance than against time. It makes it easier to see what was happenning at a certain point on the track rather than a certain time into the lap. Hope that makes sense. Straightforward accelerometers don't do distances well because they get messed up by hills & gradients etc.
-
Tachos aren't accurate. Mine over reads by a few hundred rpm.
-
P3 times now up. 888 quickest with a 2:07.5975. Then Murph, FPR, PRick etc. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....10/2008.MOUN.P7

From what I have tried I have found that GPS based position information if much better than the accelerometer based data simply because it allows you to plot your speed trace versus distance which is much more usefull than having it versus time. It highlights the small gains you end up looking for.
