Have you not seen any F1 over the past twenty years? It is how Ferrari operate. Say anything, do anything, manipulate everything. It is not sport for them anyway, it is commerce. Plain and simple.

Scary Brake Fade With New Rotors And Pads!
djr81 replied to Iron Mike's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Just be careful with pads on street cars. They MUST work from cold otherwise you will have the shittest accident in the world when you run into the back of a car at 30km/h because the pads havent warmed yet. Alot of pads (not saying this of the Project Mu ones you mentioned because I dont know) don't work worth a shit when they are cold. Also Motul make good brake fluid. -
The other factor is the accuracy of the spring rate. You only need a small diameter change in the wire to make a big spring rate difference. Why not Eibach? They are as good as you will get. I have boxes of the things after trying various rates and they are all excellent. Also what length are you after?

Whomever they put in will be a pay driver. Which is not to say they wont be any good. It used to be that pay drivers were universally shite. But nowadays you dont get through the lower formula without bringing coin. That it carries on to F1 isnt a massive surprise. Hope Caterham goes ok next year. They actually appear to be half serious, unlike the other two noob teams.

Itis not like 888 have any shortage of resources. The joy of having bazillions of dollars in sponsorship is you dont have to chose between development paths. You just do all of them and see which works better.

This is all very noble but coverage of major sporting events is not aimed at people who are already interested in them. You will be watching almost inspite of how sht the coverage is. The intent is to capture as many people as possible. So the celebrities and the random "colour" talking heads will stay. To be fair the ch 10 coverage is sht and very much worse than the mess that ch 7 make of events like Bathurst or 9 do of the cricket. But it wont change anytime soon

Yes. If for no other reason than they will have someone to qualify well. Di Resta must be less than happy though.

Success is usually tied to budget. Sure there are exceptions on the down side - eg Toyota in F1, anything properly badged as a Ford in F1 (ie that wasnt a DFV), Hondas third attempt etc etc. But given how good Honda have been at engineering (historically anyway - wouldn't give you 10 cents for any of their current offerings) you have to like their chances better than Cosworth. I love Cosworth to bits but unless someone is going to stump up real cash (and why would they?) I cant see them returning to the head of the field. Anyway here is hoping someone will again built a decent turbro road car. Aside from Ford in Oz anyway.

Wheels Sticking Out Of Arches. Illegal?
djr81 replied to ishyz34's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Such people should be taken outside and shot. -
Two things: Never borrow money to purchase an "asset" that depreciates, eg a car. It s a mugs game. Second: Dont use a GTR for a daily. They are hopeless at it. Summary: Save your coin until you can afford to keep a good GTR as a second car.

It was Barnard and the GTO - Guilford Technical Ofice. Unless Alonso is set to retire some time soon I dont understand why Ferrari would bother with Vettel unless it is to unsettle/deprive RedBull of his services. There really arent that many top line drivers racing right now - Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel, Kimi (Maybe).
-
Yeah you are right Perez & Button look to be too similar or atleast share the same lack of pace in qualifying. Doesnt bode well. Thought the Hulk was going to Sauber? Williams will need coin irrespective of who drives for them. So Pasta & A N Other. Guessing it will be Botox if Senna doesnt find something magical in qualifying real soon. their share price went up off the back of their win, wonder where it is now? Here you go: http://quotes.wsj.com/XE/WGF1/interactive-chart

The last bit is what is going to kill him. He (And Button for that matter) cant qualify to same themselves. My tip for next year is McLaren will have a poor season and Perez will get dumped for 2014. A shame really they could have taken either of the Force it India drivers and been much better off.
-
So how does Perez get a McLaren drive, Kobiashi get the arse & Daniel struggle to get re-signed for TR??? I mean Ferrari are reported as giving Massa a new contract FFS. None of that makes any sense.
-
GTR's understeer. You counter it by running stupid amounts of neg camber on the front & a rear anti roll bar made out of scaffold tube. Even after that they still understeer.
-
Williams have a really good number three driver at the moment - Botox, err, Bottas. He is odds on to get Sennas seat next year. Every time Senna gets out of the car he is lurking.....

I'm sick of all the grid penalties. They are handing them around like boiled lollies. How is it going to be at the end of the season when everyone runs out of engines/gearboxes etc etc?
-
No. Lowering the collar moves the wheel up relative to the car but the actual position of the collar doesnt change relative to the car, ie unscrew the things down 10mm and the car drops 10mm - the spring length doesnt change. FWIW springs are measured in kg/mm. ie for a 10kg/mm spring you load it up 10kg and it deflects 1mm. If you want to raise the car then you can do so by winding the collars up it doesnt upset the spring length just the shock travel. If you want to soften the ride you need to either lower the spring rate or soften the bump on the shocker or both.

Anyone Using A Quaife Diff?
djr81 replied to Lonewolf1983's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
For a front diff I would reckon a Quaife wwould be much better than a mechanical unit. They use them in Focus' and the like for a reason. No power off lock ups and other silliness, although if you are hiking inside tyres it isnt going to help much. -
Well Im hoping that if Hamilton does bolt they put one of the Force India drivers in the McLaren. Not sure which one though.

Ecr33 Front Suspension To Macpherson
djr81 replied to boogiech's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
So no good reason then, yeah? -
But now do you guys think it's worth to pay 1600ish to add more brake Not at this stage, no. Just get some decent pads & fluid. If you are worried about unsprung weight dont put rims on the car that are atleast a couple of sizes larger than they need to be. You dont need 10.5" rims to fit a 265 tyre. If you are getting larger rotors get two piece rotors. With that kind of weight difference you wont feel any difference on the drag trip & other than the ride quality will not be able to tell anywhere else either.

Ecr33 Front Suspension To Macpherson
djr81 replied to boogiech's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There is no good reason. None at all.
