Front Mount Intercooler In A N/a Worth It?
djr81 replied to foxy boxy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Tube & fin or bar & plate? I once had an XE Falcon with a drag plate air flow meter. Just sayin, but the boys at Ford were onto all this sh!t years ago. -
Screw that. They should paint their current car in orange for testing like they have done even now and then.
-
Anything could have happened - but probably didnt. Go through the I/C hoses thoroughly and satisfy yourself they are all as they should be. The other side effect is you will doubtless have fouled the plugs. So pull them and clean/replace as necessary.
-
This is usually a blown hose on the intercooler. Follow from the twin turbo pipe around to the inlet manifold and check for leaks/loose pipes etc etc. The are hard to see so you may have to take the front spoiler off the car to get proper access or atleast the front undertray. What happens is when you lose a hose the AFMs read all the air which is sucked through the turbos and fuel for that amount. Unfortunately half of it goes missing and you end up with a motor than pumps black smoke and wont rev as it is running massively rich.

R33 Gtr Rear Unstable Handle Is Horrible
djr81 replied to avoiee's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Do like Fatz says and get the thing wheel aligned. Also an inspection of the suspension would be a good idea also - make sure you havent got a dead shock or busted bushes or malfunctioning HICAS. -
They usually leak oil out the BOV's.

The End In Sight For Falcons And Commodores

Isn' t that a 33 in your avatar? -
Maybe the Canon EF 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM which will work as a 45-215 on the 7D sensor and then be ok on a full body camera for next time. Then just get an EFS in 18-55 if you need the short end aswell?

If he is going OS he can claim the GST back on the local camera. You cant do that on a grey import because they overwhelmingly state dodgy values on the documentation. Just something to keep in mind. A pair of L lenses (say a 24-105 & a 70-300) is two and a bit grand. If you want big apertures the cost goes up some more. Can you fit an L lens to a 60D?
-
If you wanted a start point he 650 & the 60 are that. With the lens kits (get the two lenses if you are getting a kit) plus spend a little on cards, a good carry bag and maybe a spare battery. Anyway these are the kits. Basically for a grand: http://www.georges.com.au/index.php/digital-slr-cameras/canon-digital-slr-cameras/canon-eos-650d-digital-slr-camera-with-18-55mm-55-250mm-is Or for $1300 http://www.georges.com.au/index.php/digital-slr-cameras/canon-digital-slr-cameras/canon-eos-60d-dslr-camera-with-18-55mm-and-55-250mm-is The 6D & 7D are the next ones up.

Because he cant help himself. Bigger question is why is he still on the payroll?

They are pretty damn good and I would recommend getting one if you want to take photos of people inside. Even for outside use they will out reach a built in flash. Yeah a compact SLR will outdo a compact camera. Easy. The gain you get from a full frame is the depth of the focal plane decreases which is good for so many things (And a pita sometimes) and the amount of light it sucks in is much larger making operation much easier (focus, definition, noise etc etc). Unfortunately what you see on so many photography posts is photoshopped images which can give a false idea of what you get/can do. Nor am I. Georges apprear to be one of the few shops who offer anything below the standard, stupid prices for Australian delivered stuff (by which I mean factory warranty etc). They are pretty good up against the Hong Kong people too and there are no dodgy GST lies or issues to worry about. Having said that I bought my last lens & flash ex HK so it doesnt necessarilly apply to everything.
-
Well it is one of those thing eh. On the one hand if you make it too hard alot of people get fed up and quit becuase they CBF'd. If you make it too easy then a different group quit because it is not challenging enough. But if you were to pick which was the more common it would be the first. After the initial enthusiasm wears off they get left with a regime that requires a big effort several times a week. Then they give up and go back to couch potato land.

No a 5D has no flash. An extra $100 or two or more depending on how, um, flash you want it to be. But you dont need it so much anyway on account of the camera. The external ones are massively better than the pop ups for inside shots as you can bounce it off the ceiling and get a good photo rather than one with nasty shadows. As for the other for my 10 cents I reckon the 5d is a long, long way infront of a compact SLR - I previously has a 500D and its night and day. If you are going to get L series lenses then why buy a camera that cant use all of their goodness? As for imports that has been done to death but shopping around locally (Try Georges in Sydney 7d body is $1425 with GST take $140 off it if going OS) you can turn up vendors that will sell you stuff for other than the RRP - sometimes it aligns with what you want, sometimes not. You may or may not get stung for GST on your first import - you probably wont. http://www.georges.c...tal-slr-cameras But dont get me wrong all of the Canon SLRs are good cameras. The good thing about Canon stuff is you get your moneys worth moving higher up in the range.
-
You have three levels of choice (Using Canon as a guide) Bottom end compact SLR with lenses to match (ie S series) - 1100 600 60(?) Upper level compact SLR (6D 7D) with good lenses (not S series then, the L series stuff) Bottom end full sized sensor SLR with good lenses. (5D) IMHO if you want an SLR dont mess about with a compact one. Get a full sized sensor with the proper lenses (which means image stabilised). Yes it costs but the lenses can be used on your next camera. If you want a Canon that means a 5D. If it is for an overseas trip then you can claim back the GST on leaving which atleast allows you to buy an Austrlian delivered body at a reasonable price. You cna buy the thing up to a month before you leave. Yes they are heavy and a pain the arse to lug about. Your hand luggage allowance will be taken up by a camera + 2 lenses which is what you need anyway. But at the end of the day you will be getting the photos you want rather than failing because you dont have enough camera for the light/conditions etc etc etc.

Where abouts in Queenstown did you take that?

Doing a 100% effort session periodically is fine. As is doing a mix of interval (anaerobic) and steady state (aerobic) work. It is doubltess a good idea to do all those things. But pushing too hard too early in a fitness campaign or just too hard too regularly can and does hold people back from reaching their goals. Doing some work to pass a fitness test (alot of work even) is a different circumstance than doing it for say a fun run or a sport and different again for a health benefit. In the former you want to go in knowing you can pass the test (so train hard, fight easy) in the middle circumstance you will be giving 100% (or should be) and so a repeated 100% effort in training is not the way to prepare for it. You should be targetting ongoing improvement and over doing things can slow your rate of improvement down, even if you dont injure yourself. If you are doing stuff for enjoyment or the health benefits then it shouldnt matter how long it takes to get up to a level - the gain is in just doing the activity.
-
At the risk of upsetting people that, to my best understanding, is completely wrong. In competition you put in a 100% effort. In training if you attempt that regularly in training you will end up either injuring yourself or what they call "over training" such that you slow down your rate of improvement. It is in fact a common mistake people make. They try to go too hard and end up disenchanted or injured or both.

65Mm Pistons - Ie Stock Bore For An New Rb26 Block
djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Different pistons have different attributes. EG compare ring thicknesses between Tomei (1.25 upper and lower), CP 1.25 & 1.5 and ACL 1.5mm. Cant find a number for HKS. I was trying to get an idea of what i could get as my first couple tries gave me squat. Anyway the ACL looks to be worth further investigation. Just because you build one motor one way doesn't mean you necessarily want to do the next exactly the same. -

djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I wanted to get some comment from the real world rather than google as the stock size is the least common of the sizes and I increasingly find that what a lot of vendors list and what they actually have are two different things. -

djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It is probably not unreasonable to ask but nevertheless I don't want to put it on a thread on an internet forum. Sorry. To reiterate it is not a CP piston issue so stop worrying about your motor. -

djr81 replied to djr81's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Attitude? FFS. I said I had engine issues. I said I didn't want to use CP's again. I did not say the cause of the issues were the CP pistons or that there was anything wrong with the brand. Happy? -

Some dont (Mahle most prominently) but that is not the issue and it is easily fixed. Please don't play 20 questions about the motor just stick to the piston availability thing. -

Hmm they make .25mm oversize too. Not seen that elsewhere.
