  1. As yet - no. If there are interested parties I will shoot an email off to Chris requesting more information about it.
  2. Some good work your doing there James! I like it!
  3. This was sent to me from Karyn about the day: The day will be divided into a number of sessions to cater for all levels of motoring enthusiasts: · Firstly, novices will be to shown around the circuit by experienced race drivers and given guidance as to braking points and correct lines. · Then follows a session for novices only where they may drive their own vehicles with an instructor in the passenger seat. · The circuit will then be opened for all vehicles to circulate. · Then, prior to lunch, a half hour passenger session will be held where drivers may take one passenger for tours of the circuit. · The afternoon will then be almost a repeat of the morning. She has stated that this is not a 100% day. It is a training day. I really recommend this if you havent been on a track before. Most sprint days you will be expected to go hard from the start - this is a perfect no pressure oportunity to get the feel of it all.
  4. Hey guys, Just a quick little note here. I spoke to Karyn via email today - she was one of the officials at the HSV day and was also who put me in touch with Chris to get us our spots on the day. Just a little thing she said was: the first session of the day is passengers.... and that means driving at 80% race speed when someone else is in the car, but your lap times at the island whilst very good, were not what is considered "appropriate" for passenger sessions..... I think this is fair enough - I know I was going pretty hard. I really enjoyed the HSV day and don't want to burn any bridges with them so if we get the chance to go with them again I think we should make sure we respect this little rule. 80% is still pretty fast when your a passenger. Karyn has said that there is the final HSV day of the year at Sandown. This track would be much cooler for super sprints than the Island. Don't know if anyone is interested with the Maserati Day the weekend before however?
  5. But first you have to make me a HICAS locking bar.
  6. Brutus. I have just completed my 4th day at Phillip Island and have driven my car pretty much as hard as I can (as a lap time of 1.49 shows! LOL) I can't give you a complete answer for a rwd car BUT there is another GTR that has been coming with me that is set up almost identically except for brakes and suspension that is about 3s slower around the Island. (and its not in the driver!) My brake set-up is: Fronts - DBA 5000's - Freodo 3000 pads Rears - DBA 4000's - Comp 2 pads Fluid - Castrol SRF. I had previously been running standard rotors with endless pads - and the difference when I put in the Ferodo's was MASSIVE. Even after the 8 lap practise sessions on the Saturday of a PIARC weekend I wasn't experiencing any fade. The bad thing about the Ferodo's for normal driving is that they are DAMN noisey. But on the track I think they are awesome. As for suspension I am running Tein HA's. I peronally don't find them bad on the street at all (I keep them on my track setting as well always) but then I also dont drive my car every day. But compared to Scotsman who is running stock suspension I can carry about 15km/hr more through that last sweeper coming onto the main straight. There was a guy with a worked WRX last weekend that dropped 2.5s of his previous best time with some whiteline suspension. Also - I am only just starting to become a half decent driver and last weekend was the first time I noticed the HICAS doing things that were upsetting me. skylinegeoff from the forums here makes a locking bar - I have one on order now. I am also going to look at running a bit of camber. Have been running nothing but really noticed the wear on the outer edges on my tyres after last weekend. I am going to go down and speak to Ben at Racepace about any set-up suggestions. As previously mentioned - there is a large group of us running at the Maserati day at Sandown on October 24th. Think 15 from last count. Check the Vic events section - be good to have another Skyline on board.
  7. Hey guys, The anual NDSOC driver training day at Sandown is on again on Sunday October 17th. This is really a MOTORSPORT driver training day and the emphasis will be on skills for a race track. You will need a CAMS L2S or higher to attend plus all of the usual track day gear (helmet, fire extinguisher, etc - read the sup regs for full requirements) I would recommend this day to anyone out there thinking of doing some track days in the future that has little or no track experience. Not only will you learn the basics racing lines etc of a race track but these guys will stop you learning bad track habbits - such as engaging gears too early. This can be a real synchro killer! LOL The best part is the price - $85. I can tell you a similar day through places like Jim Murcott are over $300. But it is a first in best dressed arrangement so if you are interested get your forms in early. http://www.ndsoc.com.au/site/files/Sandown...04_SuppRegs.doc
  8. The vid doesnt work for me But otherwise there's some great pictures there James!
  9. The pic from Fro-Daddy is why everyone should carry a fire extinguisher. Saw this happen to a GTS-T on the weekend when a turbo hose came off. Lucky the guy has an extinguisher so all that was damaged was his rear bar and one set of tail lights.
  10. Yeah I was lead to believe that they can't do it on a hill either - but as per usual they put them there because they know 99.99% of people wont bother arguing the case and there is a better chance of getting more people.
  11. yep - the SR's are the harder compund. TT intermediate. WT are the softest (can't get em here anyways that I know of)
  12. I'm looking forwards to this coming race to see how he goes. There'sno doubt the Renault is a good car and JV is a racer. Might make for some interesting action. Good ol Bernie has thrown a whole new interesting cat into the mix now. For those that don't know Jaguar and Ford will not be racing in any capacity next year. The Cosworth factory is up for sale. Minardi and Jordan don't have engines as yet. Basically Bernie has said he's happy with this and to get numbers back up to or above 20 cars he has provisions set up to allow the top teams to run 3 cars next year. So this means MS might have a new team mate next year! The idea of say Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Renault all with 3 cars sounds great to me! I think its something Bernie wants to make F1 more interesting at the front. His quote: “There are provisions for the teams to run three cars and that would perhaps give us 20 competitive cars on the grid next season. I would rather see three Ferraris, McLarens or Williams running at the front than a Jaguar fighting it out with Jordan and Minardi." As much as it saddness me to say it I probably agree with him.
  13. 8pm
  14. Improved my Phillip Island time to 1.49.3. Only modification was a small increase in testicular diameter. lol
  15. Snowman will be on the list too.
  16. Just a quick reminder guys there is a Club meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday 21st September) at the usual locations (Whitehorse Tavern - Burwood Rd, Hawthorn). Hope to see you all there.
  17. The was an ex V8 supercar (VS I think) that killed everyone. Was running 1.45's. No other HSV's / FPV's came close really.
  18. There were a couple of Holdens in our group. One of them was annoying as he kept getting lapped and stuffing up the lap times! LOL
  19. Ok - I'm totally buggered and have heaps of work so this initial report is going to be a little less informative than usual. Saturday - MSCA - Snowman, Scotsman, Duncan - Cloudy After some inital difficulties getting Duncan to the starting grip we finally got ready to race. As per usual the MSCA events were filled with mostly older cars with no "driver assistance" technology - this meant that just about every session we had to wait for half an hour for some dick to be dragged out of the sand. And the size of the fields on the track were extremely small - so that meant more groups to circulate through. There were 8 groups in total and by the time 2pm had come I had only had one run. By the later part of the day half of the older cars had broken down and we finally got some better track time - me and Duncan got 4 runs and Chris got 5. The highlight for me was my times. I went into the day with a previous best time of 1.51.4s. In my first session I managed to beat that with a 1.50.8. Followed in my 3rd session with a 1.50.1. So I was pretty edgy as my objective at the start of the day was to get a 1.49. But in the final session I put it together to get 2 laps in the 1.49's - best being a 1.49.3. Scotsman bettered his previous best from a 1.52.4 to a 1.52.02. So close to that 1.51! Duncan was having a lot of fun coming to grips with the awesome VTEC power of the S2000. Turn 4 was a favorite of his. I "think" at the end of the day he managed a 2.03 something - putting him second in his class. Not bad for a first effort at the Island in a stock car he doesnt know. Sunday - HSV - Snowman, Scotsman, Duncan, Emre, Skylinegeoff, Crazy Frank. - Sunny. The weather gods smiled on us and turned on a beautiful day. The HSV guys were kind enough to put us all in one group for the day so we got to play a little - although after the first session we tended to go out in order from fastest to slowest so we didnt hold each other up. For those that don't know Crazy Frank he has one nice car (White R33 GTR). He managed to beat his PB with an awesome time of 1.47.6s. Emre had some issues but smashed his previous PB from a 2.00 to a 1.55 on his first attempt (gotta love stickies). There were a few issues during the day. Emre's power fc defaulted back to the original settings causing him to miss most of the day. Geoff had a minor turbo pipe / exaust fire situation. And there was a bit of off track circle work from Emre and Duncan. The final session was a "Super Sprint" in which we had a standing start at the start finish line. Me and Emre were lined up next to each other and had some fun launching it off the line together. Kinda sucked a bit for me seeming as though I went the whole weekend without 2nd gear. LOL But one of the best things for the day was the level of support from SAU members. Big thanks for the turnout from Beck, Al, Shivram, Dave (and Mrs), Rianto and James (appologies if I've missed anyone here) Thats about it for now. Although I will just say - Duncan's 1.57 is HIGHLY disputed! LOL
  20. Mate, You best bet is to contact one of these 2 companies and see what they say. I believe they both make straight, stronger synchro and dog gear sets. Pfitzner: http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/ Precision Automotive Robotics (NSW) http://www.par-engineering.com/ Good luck.
  21. pfft - what are you guys on about? Castor angles? Toe? Spring Rates? Its all bollucks. Just get in the damn car and drive!
  22. Duncan is picking the car up at 5pm so will get to my house about 6 - 6:30 Im guesing. We have to help "race prep" the car for him as well. (aka install the fire extinguisher) I was planning on grabbin a pizza beforehand as well so if you want to come down for 6:30 if you can make it you can eat with us if you like? Also - if BBQ is a pain - Emre suggested we go to a pub or something for dinner Sat night (or get some simple take-away). Our chef isn't with us this time anyways.
  23. Guys face it - the Wang is the way to go. I mean everyone loves the Wang! The chicks love the wang! Even the real racers want to be part of it!
