  1. I think it is a very grey area and a slippery slope as well. Why don't they use the same logic elsewhere? because they'd get their leashes pulled up by their masters. By your standards it would be quite ok for them to leave money on the ground then hide in the bushes and arrest anyone who picked it up and did not hand it in .. or how about if they attend raves and sell drugs at a low price and then arrest anyone who buys .. there are a lot of factors in and around choosing to bend a road rule. To avoid a truck throwing up rocks, because you're concerned about car jacking, because you just want to put safe distance between you and someone who looks to be acting dangerously. At some point this stuff stops being law enforcement and starts adding to the problem. A lazy way out for the cops - not happy with actual hard policing they're spending our money to on cheap stunts that require them to break their own rules (and set a bad example) in order to get a result.
  2. It is a worry seems every month there is a car jacking similar to this. I lived in new york for years most recently last year and there were FAR less car jackings. Ok lots of random shootings in bad areas over drugs, yes, but nobody was going to take your car grand theft auto style! and that in a city of over 10 million people. of course in 1992 in new york, things were very different: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...752C1A964958260
  3. thanks, you are right I am putting cart before horse. I need to spend more time with the setup before deciding what to do.. my main issue so far is that the setup doesn't feel like it will be the master of either compliance on the roads, or master of track either. So I ASSumed it was comprehensively outclassed by the coilovers commonly used now.
  4. Water also reduces the heating during the compression stroke which is the largest part of the heat increase from ambient prior to ignition. Not because it is cold, but because it is water.. less heating during compression means higher knock threshold means higher effective octane ratio means more advanced timing means more power. I'm not sure which is more effective but I'd wager it is not the intake charge temp drop, but the decreased heat during compression. If you put on a 100% efficient intercooler, you still can't get the same result as water injection.
  5. yep, But now it has become insane as built cars are worth nothing and parts are astronomical.. I wonder how tomei/hks/etc can survive 2009.. The lesson is to keep all stock items removed even the very cheap ones, so you have the option of returning the car to stock, and selling the parts..
  6. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p2L...WRj0AJTx4GkTTUQ As a good student,. I've been making notes and decided to take a stab at a spreadsheet that shows which items "should" (yellow) and "must" (red) and "waste of money" (grey) should be upgraded at various power levels.. I was kind of assuming an r34 here but it is really about rb26. feedback welcome.
  7. I haven't fitted them yet so i don't know if I'll need to take the end off the stock bolts or not. You might be right on that. I'd much prefer not to do that. Are the stock bolts easy to replace with shorter ones? or do I need a new hub. Off topic but the wheel choices commonly picked by traders for import are annoying, their offsets are so frequently +22, +30, or more ... but +22 even with a 9.5" width doesn't fill the guards of an r34! it is so hard to find good 18" wheels offered at nice prices with low offsets.
  8. http://www.uniquecarsales.com.au/pls/carsa...e_id_list=41825 Look at the parts on this car. I imagine the owner could be beaten into taking ~50k Ohlins flag R? they are 600,000 yen plus, so whats that? $umpty billion aud now? Brembo 6 pot / 4 pot? thats over $10k Fully worked engine.. cost a fortune to build and tune i bet trust and tomei catalog everywhere z-tune style crank, stroker kit.. Motec M800, theres $4k+ right there. twin T517z .. coppermix twin & OS Giken box .. $ouch eibach .. even $1500 LED lights still in their box nismo body kit proper fuel system.. 1000cc injectors.. And somewhere under all that is a very nice R33 The cost of desirable parts goes to the moon and the cost of the cars with the parts goes to hell. How long can it go on.. I was pondering the insanity price of a big brake kit and new suspension and rims, and i would end up spending 50% of this car. 'buy my suspension and brakes -- and get a free car thrown in that is better than yours'. sheesh.
  9. according to a catalog they are front 9kg rear 8kg, so that would be a bit harder than the s-tune .. where in the "16 levels of adjustability" do you set yours?
  10. I think I remember a recent news article saying a new initiative was to stop booking and deducting points from "law abiding" citizens who get caught just a bit over the limit. Simply put, the "anti hoon" and zero tolerance attitude was causing too many "good people" to lose their licenses.. seriously, it was in the SMH, do a search you can probably find it. edit: there you go, it was based on what this minister said: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/11/14/2419994.htm
  11. Hi Paul, Can you confirm I have a spot, and take a stab at an ETA? I paid what I think was the right amount 6 days ago but haven't got a reply back from you since then. thanks
  12. xr6 yeah I guess .. just. can't. bring. myself. to that point. In another life, where I'm a successful tradesman with a thriving cash if possible mate business, maybe. plus you probably have to spend $8k on a big brake kit even stock.
  13. Any opinions on which new(ish) car allows for a high degree of power increase without opening a money pit of supporting mods ? It seems the premium cars (lotus, BMW, audi, porsche etc) cost you an absolute bomb for even the simplest upgrades (exhaust, re-flash, etc) and because of crammed engine bays and tight electronics integration it is really something few get into .. Anything with a DSG or tiptronic or trick gearbox (hmm R35) is going to have a fairly hard ceiling not too far above stock power output .. so.. S2000? golf gti? mazda? vette? Is after-market modification beyond the "flash for an extra 20% torque" a dying business?
  14. My v-spec ii has s-tune currently, the spring rates are front 6kg, rear 6.7kg, there are 5 levels of hardness on the damper (I haven't tested them). While I'd like a more compliant ride I don't think I want a harder ride .. but is there anything to gain in the handling department without going harder? Should I leave it alone? Add stuff from the nismo suspension catalog? What about something ride height adjustable? getting into my garage is a pain in the ass i have to take it 45 degrees and even then I'll get a scrape..
  15. thanks, I got a set from ISC. They are hub centric (hub lips as you say) and look strong. They'll get what I want in terms of the look. But I didn't realize how heavy they'd be. They add about 8 lbs of unsprung weight all around! ouch!
  16. I'm trying to reserve a spot for an rb26 stock position low mount ceramic coated manifold. but not having any luck raising anyone, just for the record. If I can get a PM confirming a spot, a price, and how/who to pay I'd pay.
  17. how many places near you can you fill up? but the effective octane rating is very high so lots of ignition advance possible, along with a good deal more flow needed (hence the higher consumption). Why not go water/meth injection with regular pump gas, it has got to be easier to keep that bottle filled up than staying near E85 stations.
  18. I wasn't trying to be smart actually. I wanted to know, but that's ok.
  19. Did you fit it yet? does it fit properly? whenever I see a ztune or other style aftermarket hood and I ask, it is always "nah, mate, it doesn't fit too good".
  20. my QLD unreg permit had to list *exactly* where I would drive and on what days (if the permitwas longer than 24 hours). And if you get stopped by the cops, you need to be either in one of the spots written on the permit, or between them, and preferably on the day the permit says you can be there. On the other hand I passed maybe four cops in one way or another and none chased me down, only when I stopped @ byron did the locals ask me what was going on with the no plates thing.
  21. that helps, thanks. So if you are over 90% on injectors you can get some extra headroom by getting an adjustable fuel regulator and increasing the fuel rail pressure.. That would be give extra headroom.. But that isn't going to turn 555 cc injectors into 740 cc injectors ..
  22. I was reading about flow testing injectors, and came across two different articles that mention the higher the fuel pressure in the rail, the higher the (tested) injectors flow. For example, a 440cc subaru injector that was "de-capped" flowed at 500cc using the standard pressure equipment, but when the guy doubled the pressure and tested just one (because the machine could not test all at higher psi), it flowed at over 800cc! And then obviously the higher boost pressure the higher fuel rail pressure is needed to overcome and maintain the same fuel pressure at the injector tip. So if your injectors are near max duty cycle, why not just increase fuel rail pressure? and.. how can injector sizing be an exact science if flow rates change according to boost pressure and/or fuel rail pressure?
  23. I believe you, I just thought it was a chuckle.
  24. If the tune is good, then yeah that sounds cheap. You should probably set an alarm on your phone to snipe this in the last 10 seconds: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/apexi-power-fc-hand...%3A1|240%3A1318
  25. "Holset HX50-55 For engines of 10 to 15 litres capacity the Holset HX50 and HX55 are specified on some of the world's premium rated heavy-duty engines at up to 470 bhp. " funny..
