Checkbuzz replied to Checkbuzz's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Offers anyone? -
...and this article seems to take care of the roadworthy side of the equation (wheels, tyres etc) http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/rsc/roadw...%20Part%20A.htm

I'm not sure if this is already in circulation on SAU or not but it makes for pretty interesting reading... know your rights and enjoy! http://epanote2.epa.vic.gov.au/EPA/Publica...6;FILE/1031.pdf

Here is my installation, there is a lot of confusing info around but here is my 2 cents: Most of the catch cans available have only 2 outlets the best and easiest way to set it up is as I have. No need to block any hoses or frig around with PCV valves etc. You are not really worried about the crankcase fumes being drawn into the plenum via the PCV under no boost (as in option #1 & #2 above) You are concerned about the fumes (& oil) going into the intake and through you intercooler (reducing cooling efficiency as oil is a poor conductor of heat) under boost conditions. This can also lower the RON (octane) of the fuel mix and cause detonation... v bad! So all you need is a 50% plumb back install as I have done (option #3 above)... very easy, simple and takes care of the main issue. P.S. I filled one side of the catch can with steel scourers caged in with steel mesh screen to help scrub the oil out of the fumes

Hmmm... it looks like you missed these articles then: http://www.fueltechexperts.com/2008/08/08/...-which-is-best/ 20% Toluene +2.5RON 500ml Nulon Octane booster (60l tank) +2.8RON http://v6supercharged.com.au/workshop.asp?ProjectID=1 Octane booster in action Quote: "Both the Nulon Pro Strength and the NF Racing Formula rated the best octane boosters in our test... ...Still, both proved extremely effective at increasing octane, even outranking Toluene, which needs much higher levels of concentration." Why bother running around trying to source and use large amounts of toluene when you can buy a bottle of superior Nulon octane booster anywhere for $25? The guys doing these tests know WTF they are talking about... more than can be said for some on these forums!

All respect SK but don't the Japanese factory ECU's in the RBs have fuel maps for the 100RON fuel used over there? In an "untuned" RB (factory ECU) I thought that running a decent octane booster with 98RON local fuel would have benefits i.e. running the octane that the ECU is mapped for... even more so to avoid detonation with increased boost levels + hot weather? Clearly it's a different story if your aftermarket or factory ECU is remapped for 98RON I was about to go out and buy some but not so sure now

They are a totally crap tire... Apart from poor dry road grip in the wet they are like being on friggin ice skates! High speed vibration, road noise, I could go on Do yourself a big favour and steer well clear of them

Stealthy 200+RWKW...

Hey mate I'll be dragging the R33 out for it's first run on the track and doing the driver training as I'm a noob! Glad to hear I'm not the only one... Are you running an R33 also? What mods have you done? Mine is stock turbo and ECU pulling 200+rwkw and I'm keen to see how it goes up against other R33/34s. See ya there

What gap are the new plugs he's using? and what boost is being run? The issue sounds like coil packs (very common at higher boost levels) but the problem often can be reduced or eliminated by using plugs with a smaller 0.8mm gap (or less depending on boost) as opposed to the std 1.1mm gap. This worked for me and the insulation of the coil packs didn't, I still have a slight miss and are currently waiting for JJR coils to be back in stock for the R33 S2. Also Splitfires are great but they are $600+, Super Sparks can be had for $500, JJR have coil packs for $400 (1yr warranty) that do the same job and there are some Yellow Jackets just come on the market for $350 a set (6 month warranty). For my money I'm going for the JJRs - same warranty and result as Splitfires.

JJR Coil Packs Vs Oem Vs Splitfire Vs Other
Checkbuzz replied to 4drftn's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Any update on this topic? Splitfires are $600+ these days... JJRs are going for $400 - that's a huge difference in price! The 12 month warranty is great but the JJRs have been around for nearly 2 years now - any complaints? The coil packs all seem to perform the same (at least at low-mid power applications) so I suppose it's down to reliability and (of course) price... Need to replace mine bad -

Can S2 R33 Coils Handle Over 13psi?
Checkbuzz replied to shotter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had this problem with the engine missing under load at higher RPM after increasing the boost on my R33 to 12psi. Everything pointed to coil packs and everyone said to replace them but I thought I'd try a $24 set of plugs instead (gapped to 0.8 instead of the factory 1.2) and that fixed the problem. Don't spend $600AUS on coil packs unless you are very sure you need them -
Just thought I'd let you all know, I recently upped the boost to 12psi on my R33 S2 (190rwkw on the dyno!) it was running ok for a few weeks and then developed a bad miss at about 4-5000rpm or so under load (half throttle plus) Everyone said and everything I read said "coil packs" ($600+ for replacement splitfires!) so I taped them up to test the theory... still no good... Then I replaced the old platinum plugs (factory?) that looked to be in great condition except the gap (orignally 1.1) must have been out to 1.3 or more as the electrode had worn down! I replaced them with NGK V-Power BKR6EYA (no number means 0.8mm gap) plugs from Bursons - $24 for 6! Problem solved, the car has never gone better BTW 190+rwkw: stock ECU, stock turbo, stock coil packs & fuel system! R34 sidemount (fan-forced), CAI, pod, 3" X-Force turbo back zorst, 12psi! $1500 worth of DIY mods
