  1. Yes mate, for the highmount it was as long as any wiring or pipework was protected. It goes along the same lines as a kit car really, safety and being soundly engineered with the correct materials and fasteners is the main issue.
  2. Mine cost less than $1000, I had to get a few things compliant though first like remove turbo timer, plum in BOV, filter enclosure, remove rear seats and belts and a few other bits and pieces. Find a engineer and ask him whats needed, also look on the RTA or equivalent web site for a guide on modifications.
  3. I've been pulled over twice since I've had the car engineered, the first time the police asked me to pop the bonnet and I said "no problems sir, I'll just get my engineering certificate out the glove box for you" he had a look and said no problems, the second time they sent me around the corner to the mobile inspection station where the RTA guys were, they checked my cert, measured my ride height, tyres, lights and said no problems. My car looks fairly stock from the outside but with aftermarket everything under the bonnet and under the car, inside the car is a half cage, harnesses, R34 GTR seats, fire extinguisher, first aid kit. The rims were R34 GTT rims (now with 33 GTR rims) with the Nissan logo which makes the look standard, but it all covered in the cert. I keep my cert with my CAMS licence, rego paper and insurance paperwork, which helps explain some of the mods. Though I'm also 46 yrs old which keeps me out of the "stupid kid" demographics, and I am also always polite and answer all questions or requests with a smile, initially when pulled over I always say Gday and ask them how their day is. I can understand why these inspections are needed to remove unsafe cars from the road, and I agree that imports are picked on, why, they are easy targets, but let's be honest, you can have your car legal and still have fun, albeit with some undue attention, do it right and the hassles are greatly reduced, do it wrong and pay for your mistakes. Old man tip No 1: don't have your car low with big rims, loud, or outlandish body kits. No 2: get your mods engineered. No 3: be polite always, the police are just doing a job they have been told to do. No 4: don't give them reasons to pull you over, ensure all your lights work, and don't break the road laws.
  4. For got to mention to have your heater on full whilst doing it to flush the heater core.
  5. When the car is cold start it up with the radiator cap off, let it warm up and add coolant if needed, then replace the cap and shut it down, when it cools check the level and top up if needed. Ensure the overflow bottle is at the high point throughout this proccess. This is how I do it anyway.
  6. There only available is soft comp at the moment, but when they get some med or hard they will most likely be my choice, yes they are not road legal and the forementioned cheater slicks but for the price Ill bolt them on at the track. On a side note my new street hoops, Ventus R-S3,s, will be leaving the states any day now, saved about $300 after fitting using tire rack, cheapest I found here were $300 a corner, tire rack $134 US a corner Mark
  7. I don't run to win, only to have fun and go as fast as my old bones and small testicles will allow. I may end up getting the "cheater semi slicks" from tire rack as I cannot justify spending 5 to 6 hundred on tyres I can get for 1/3 the cost from the US. And as for the classes, I run in SVD so I have no chance in the class even though my car is regoed and engineered, I'm up against all sorts of stripped down race cars with rego plates. If they stand by the rules that the car needs a engineering cert at scrutiny to comply with the ADR for modified vehicles to be legally road registered then that may change my thinking, until then though I'm rolling in my overweight daily on the best tyres I can get for a reasonable price. Mark.
  8. Bloody AJs and their cars, LOL. Enjoy Mark the "ginger beer"
  9. I honestly think the manual VL would be better than a POS AUTO Skyline, just change the rims to some SS rims. Why the hate of manuals, just curious. Post up some info on it, motor, mods, spares, you may get a bite. Good luck anyway mate.
  10. I still sometimes call it the DMT.
  11. Was going to get some new ones, I'll be looking at medium to hard as the boat weights 1450ish kg, none of the second hand ones I've seen or asked the tyre dudes at the track about are the size I'm after "245ish/40ish 17" but no bigger(8" rim) On the tyres hardness, I'm using my totally uneducated guess work, if I've got this wrong feel free to tell me I've got it all wrong. I'm hoping for them to last a while to, last time I used soft compound the tyres lasted 2 sessions. I'll only be using them for sprints, so 1 or 2 warm up laps then 2 hot ones. Thanks.
  12. Looking for something like 245/40 17 for my boat, tire rack don't do full slicks and I'm after happy prices, Am I going to get some for happy price or am I going to have to bite the bullet and pay through the nose. Thanks, Mark.
  13. Rego 2011 or 2012 ? Any problems with it.
  14. I'll call you in a while mate.
  15. $150, Which is 1/2the price of new ones. I used them on R34 GTT rims on a R33 GTST.
  16. Wish this was in Sydney, would go well with my S1 GTR 34 fronts, good price too.
