Today when I was driving the piece of plastic that covers the front wheel arch up to the bumper dislodged and started scraping along the road and my tyre, The holes in it where it bolts to the bumper have been scraped off beyond repair so I have cut alot of it off so my car is driveable again. I would like to know if this part is needed to cover or protect anything or will I not need to bother about getting a new one? If so how much do they cost to replace?

Do Cops Delibrately Single Out Imports?
Crackfox replied to GTR91's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I think cops do single out imports but from my experience this is not without reason, the stereotype about import drivers hold true for alot of drivers. Some people buy skylines because they genuinely have an interest in them (most of the people on this site), but sadly there are alot of young people that have bought them for the sole reason of trying to be cool. I have owned my r33 gtst for about 2 months now, Im also on my P's. I have only driven past one r33 (a chick driver with flower stickers on the back window) that hasnt tried to race me or do anything stupid. Every single other r33 has either aggressively tailgated me (I mean like leaving 1-2m distance while going through backstreets at 70-80k an hour), done a big skid or burnout or tried to race me. One of them even crashed after following me through a turn way too quickly, lost traction over corrected way too much and went over a curb backwards (broke the rear axle judging by the angle of the wheel), this guy had also been following me out of maccas carpark and then 50 meters down the road before he crashed. When you see all this stupid shit happening how can you blame the cops for cracking down on imports -
What about a suzuki mightyboy?? i saw one the other day with a landcruiser ute style bodykit, it looked awesome. Pretty cheap and good on fuel im assuming cos it only had 19kw at the engine when new.

Im a p plater and sorta had the same problem. When I looked around for quotes, 3rd party prices were pretty much all the same at 500ish (with fire+theft) no matter which company. If your looking at full comp though just cars is probably the cheapest, the other companies dont really want you so they give you outrageous quotes i think, example: heres my quote for full comp with SGIO: $5474 dollars per year, with a $1800 excess and an agreed value of only 6k which was the highest agreed value I could get, (this was on a r33 gtst that I had just paid 8.7k for 2 days before btw) even if I total my car I would get back less than what my insurance cost wouldve been lol. I ended up going with fire+theft, it encourages me to drive safer lol

I was pulled over last night but lucky they were very cool cops. I was picking up some mates from a party at 2am and was on my way back, and was being tailgated by a car with highbeams on. One of my mates in the back turns round and gives him the finger and starts swearing at the car, and sure enough its a marked cop car. He didnt put his lights on but I pulled over anyways and so did he. The cop politely asks my mate in the back why he gave him the rude finger whilst shining his torch on a big bottle of unopened vodka. He then shines the torch on me, while Im wearing my blue flanelette pyjamas and a sombrero and the car is reeking of alcohol. He smirks at me and asked me a few questions like where have you been etc etc, then told me they were looking for kids vandalising stuff in the neighbourhood and let me off. No breathalyzer test, didn't ask for my license which I had left at home, and didnt check the car for defects. Needless to say I was pretty relieved and thought I would get alot worse treatment then that

When I looked around at dealers about 6 weeks ago I couldnt find any r33 s2 gtsts in manual for under 15k, the ones in good condition with low kms were even more than this at 17-18k, I didnt even bother trying to talk them down cos I only had 8-9k to spend on my car so I'm not sure how flexible they are on their prices. Also, I think something went wrong with the server and a few threads and pms were lost, it wasnt a mod deleting your thread.

I have a small but different problem with backfiring in my s1 r33 gtst. The car backfires occasionally when I change gears, or rarely when I completely back off the throttle. This only occurs when I am driving sedately with light throttle usage and gear changes at around 2.5-2.8k rpm, problem dissappears after about 3k rpm, it also seems to happen with slightly more frequency in cold or rainy weather and when the engine is cold. The car also smells of unburnt fuel when I pull into my garage. Its not a massive backfire either more of a loudish pop than a bang. It doesnt seem to be too much of a problem and I still get decent economy at ~10L per 100kms urban/town driving when I nanna it. If I could get even better than this though I would be stoked. Car is always run on BP ultimate, has a HKS Super Drager exhaust + unknown pod and a Blitz dual chamber vent to atmos bov. Only recently purchased so Im not sure if the cat has been gutted or not, any ideas?

Tonight when I was driving round I took a 90 degree turn at a rather brisk pace in 2nd gear in my r33 gtst (~5000-5500rpm i think), the rear wheels may have slid out just a bit but not much. This somehow caused the engine to suddenly cut out along with my power steering and brakes in a carpark at like 60k an hour which wasnt that fun, Im quite sure it occured exactly or exactly after my rear wheels lost traction for a second, it was an empty carpark late at night with no cars or people around btw and yes I know it wasnt the smartest move on my part but it was pretty scary and unexpected. I would like to fix this problem or atleast make sure it doesnt happen again. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? I definately didnt stall it as it was in 2nd gear the whole time and I didnt touch the clutch, the engine cutout was very smooth and sudden and took me a second to realise, nothing like this has ever happened before also.

Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
Crackfox replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Unitrac focus2000 on stock 33 gtst rims watever size that is Dry performance 5/10 Wet performance 0/10.. corners I previously took in the wet at 55-60k an hr in my fwd corolla on $60 mystery tyres cant even be taken at 35k an hour.. if I drive through a puddle at 60k an hour in a straightline I aquaplane while other cars pass me with ease at 70k an hour. Value?/10 these came new with the car when I bought it so im guessing they were the cheapest tyres around, shows you get what you pay for I guess -
I recently purchased 2 genuine nissan keys to suit my r33 gtst off kudos ms for a little over $40 including postage (which all went smoothly). My problem was getting them cut, I went to 2 difference places for each car, Mr Minit and bunnings, both copies look pretty daggy and neither of them worked initially but I was able to use my awesomeness to file out one of the keys to work by myself (took me ~1.5hr), the other one looks so shitty it is beyond a joke. He didnt even bother charging me for it atleast he just said sorry. Is there anywehere I can go where I can be guaranteed a decent key cutting job, not just some dopey teenage employee who spends 10 seconds on the job and couldnt give a shit if the key works. I dont care if I have to pay alot more for it instead of the usual $3-5 or travel a little further than a 5mins drive I just dont wanna keep having to buy more keys online as they arent that cheap. Or would I be best off spending a whole day doing it myself sitting in a dark corner with my little file.

Car: 1993 R33 GTS-T manual, exhaust roughly the size of my head (came with car), aftermarket air filter, apexi dual chamber bov (also came with car, I will be changing for stock bov soon), turbo timer set to 30 seconds every time car is used, otherwise stock Petrol of choice: BP Ultimate 98 So far fuel economy is averaging 10.5L/100kms. This is all suburban driving. Driving style: 95% of driving has been driving quite sensible with changes generally around 2.2-2.5k rpms with light throttle use. 5% moderate thrashing with changes 5-5.5k rpm. Most of the times I have a passenger in the car as well. KM's per tank: close to 500kms per 50L with sensible suburban driving. When I was giving it a bit of a thrash though I would get 150-200kms per 50L, I could literally see the needle dropping, car was backfiring a little bit I think, this is on stock boost as well. Overall I am pleasantly surprised at the fuel economy of the skyline, I was expecting around 13-14L/100kms when I bought it. On boost driving is a different story though, is 20-25L/100kms normal for hard driving in a skyline? It seems my skyline could drink a v8 under the table if its pushed hard enough

Bad luck on crashing hope the other guy is honest and doesnt try turn the story around, its harder to prove fault when you dont have your insurance companies lawyers on your side. To all those who think its stupid to drive without having your car insured, its always a gamble with odds against you because the insurance companies have to make money. I didnt get full comp because if I dont total my car in 7 months then insurance costs will have surpassed my cars agreed value, which would make me an idiot to drive with it.

Ok thanks for replies, last question, how much would the stock bov unit cost me approx and what could I sell the apexi one for?
-
Hi guys, I have just bought my skyline r33 gtst s1 and have found out it has an aftermarket blow off valve on it. I had a look at it but being a noob at cars all I could find out about it is that it is an apexi unit. I would like to know how/if I can tell if it is plumbed back or venting to the atmosphere, and if it is venting to atmosphere, can I get it plumbed back, or would it be easier to buy a stock bov? Dunno if this helps but it is quite loud at any gear changes above 2.5k rpm and yes the car does have an aftermarket air filter. I'll also try upload a pic of it

How much would it cost to take it to a registered automotive workshop? Car is located in the Nollamara area I think its page/map 228 of the street directory.
-
Car is in perth, none of my friends know much more than I do about cars, just basics like change the oil, change a tyre etc. The seller has also said its fine by him if I want to get it checked out by anyone as long as I pay for it. Can I ask what RAWS is?
-
Does anyone know a good place I could have a skyline checked out to see if any problems exist on it before I buy it? I have heard RAC inspections are pretty useless for turbo cars, and I'm not really experienced enough to go over the car myself. Are there any trustworthy workshops that would go over it for me and how much this would cost approximately. PS Search function was not working due to flood control or something so plz dont flame me if this topic is already posted about.

Penalties For Driving A Manual When Only Carrying An Auto Licence
Crackfox replied to trav_33's topic in Western Australia
I wouldnt drive a car out of class unless it was just a one off time. The penalty might not be that big but remember you would have no insurance at all in the case that you crashed (which would be pretty likely if it was your daily) -
I now have $10.3k all up to spend so Im gonna start looking for one I like and hopefully I'll have one in the next couple of months
-
My mate told me he saw a wrx pulled over being searched so no doubt you could still be caught if you do stupid enough stuff
-
I was overtaken by a cop on marmion ave (80 zone) about 15 mins ago - I was doing 105 with no p's lol he didnt even look at me just slowly cruised past!!

Did anyone else see this in the paper this morning? "WA Police Union president-elect Russell Armstrong said serious traffic offenders, including drink drivers, speeders, hoons and motorists driving under the influence of drugs, would escape on-the-spot police fines of up to $1000 but would still face court action. Minor offenders, such as drivers who failed to indicate, would avoid fines and escape with a caution" (taken from thewest) Would this mean that you are caught speeding and, provided it wasnt excessive enough to go to courts, you would get off? Are police even targeting speeding at the moment?

If I cant get one for 6k then I'm just gonna save up a bit more, currently I'm saving $100-150 a week so sooner or later I'll have enough. I'm more interested in how much I should have set aside for maintainence and repairs. What does the average stockish 32 gtst cost to maintain per year, is 1.5k enough or will I need more? As for insurance I'm an 18 year old male no crash history but a 71 in a 50 zone speeding ticket so I'm not even going to ask about full comp in a turbo import, I'll stick with 3rd party maybe fire + theft. How much is this gonna cost roughly?
