Whats the best street tyres for $350-$400
riggaP replied to MJ's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
This is spot on. I put new tyres on yesterday and decided to launch them hard right away. They were absolutely appalling so I backed off. When I got home there was a layer of oily residue around the paint work of the rear wheels, evidence that "lubricants" had come off at once. It looked very similar to when I got off the skid pan! They guy at the tyre shop said they'll need to be "scrubbed in" for about 100-200km before they start to stick properly. I've done about 90km since and the difference is already amazing when compared to yesterday's first efforts. You can check my new rims out by looking here -
f**k it!! I just bought one! My boss might be keen on one, I'll let you know...

Cheers for the positive comments guys Rob, I was actually expecting them to look a lot more "goofy" with the stock suspo but they seemed to have filled the guards a bit more which is good. I had the car next to a mates yesterday, who has aftermarket suspo, and the distance between his guard and rear tyre is almost identical. The only difference was the distance between the ground and the kit being almost 2 inches higher!

Not very. If you can find them on auctions.yahoo.co.jp J-Spec can get them for you. Just be prepared to wait...

I wondered how sauce got on them

I dont really know because I havent made the final payment (long story). I'm expecting around the $1300 mark. Not bad for a brand new set of 18" Ray's Yep, in fact would-be thieves would have to come ultra prepared Yep, I'll pay that. But heres the deal, I had a V104K and a Pilot Sport side by side at the tyre shop. Everything about these 2 tyres was bloody similar. As I said, the traction and heat ratings are exactly the same, the tread patterns are bloody similar, and the review both tyres got in Motor (Dec 2003) is also bloody similar. That, teamed up with the fact that Michelin own 80% of Hankook, was enough for me to save the $200 odd per corner at the expense of negligible traction differences. And, as you pointed out, they'll last longer

Hello all, I would like to share some pics of my new rims. They're 18x8 and made by Rays Engineering for Payton's Place. I bought them off the Yahoo Auctions in Japan thru J-Spec. J-Spec have also sourced me some Tein coil overs which should be here soon allowing me to put the car on its arse The tyres are Hankook Ventus K104s (235/40/18f, 255/35/18r). The reason for the Hankooks goes a little like this; I was sold by the fact that they have the same traction rating (AA), same heat rating (A), and better wear rating (280 vs 220) when compared to the Michellin Pilot Sports. The best part is they're almost half the price! Let me know what you think

I sent a cooler kit to NSW last month via COD. The dimensions were 90x30x30cm and with full insurance cost $30. It was at the destination within 2 days. edit - it weighed 13kg

What to do with overly hard springs???
riggaP replied to JXL's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Anyone know what the spring rates for stock R33 shocks are? -
Mine are 38 all round. They're made by Rays Engineering for Payton's Place and are a 7 spoke design. I bought them off the Yahoo Auctions in Japan (thru J-Spec ) and got them here for around $1300. I'm putting Hankook Ventus K104s on them 235/40/18f, 255/35/18r. All up it's going to cost around $2200 for a brand new set of Ray's and tyres I'm happy. As for suggestions; with tyres I was sold by the fact that the Hankooks have the same traction rating (AA), same heat rating (A), and better wear rating (280 vs 220) when compared to the Michellin Pilot Sports. The best part is they're almost half the price! with rims, anything YOU think look good will be OK with me

riggaP replied to MJ's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm putting a set of Hankook Venus k104s (235/40/18f, 255/35/18r) on tomorrow. I was sold by the fact that they have the same traction rating (AA), same heat rating (A), and better wear rating (280 vs 220) when compared to the Michellin Pilot Sports. The best part is they're almost half the price! I'll let you all know how they go. I dont really have much to compare them to coz the only tyres I've had on the car thus far are jap spec bridgestone 205s. My 155rwkw has no trouble spinning them thru 2nd. MJ, my rims are 18x8 and 255 fit perfectly :uh-huh: -
I bought a set of 18s and they're being fitted tomorrow 18x8, Offset +38, P.C.D 100. I think the GTRs have an offset of +48 to house those brembos, but I could be wrong.

I'm gonna try and get to this one. -
I enjoy reading Cosmo. The pics of the girlies make boris stand up straight and tall. I keep it under the floor boards so no one will find it. I also have Dorothy's dress from The Wizard of Oz. I wear it sometimes when I feel lonely and wish I could be taken home. It has my name tag on it so no one confuses it with their own.

Increased Boost and still misfiring

series 2 might be different to series 1??? -
PS Ian, Good to see that someone in England has a Skyline . I lived in London for a few months back in 2001 and rarely saw any asian built car and failed to see any form of skyline whatsoever. Are they becoming more popular?

14.1@106??? There is some serious potentail there! Also, these runs were done in 3deg? Problem is probably not with the car or driver but more with ice on the track! As for the tyre issue, last time I went to the drags I persisted with a small burnout for most of the day and could not crack 13s. For the last 5 runs I stopped the burnout and got 2 13.9s and a 13.8 (205s@20psi). Something to think about....
-
I ran a 14.3@98mph with nothing but a cat back and on 205s. I then added a bleeder@10psi, front/dump pipe, and pinapples to achieve 13.8@101mph (see avatar ). Also this run was more than 12 months later on the same 205 tyres. I've since added a chipped ecu, high flow cat, and replacing the tyres this week (255s). I'm aiming for low 13s next time I visit the track.

riggaP replied to QuickR33Melb's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I smell over boost protection. I had this same problem when trying to run more than 10psi. If you have a factory ecu you will need at least some sort of piggy back to get rid of it. Also, put copper plugs in. -
Hmmm... no... If this is from personal experience then learn to drive...

My mum has been using the Neway's personal products for a while (I actually use the shaving stuff myself). If these guinea cops post up some decent results I'll give it a go...
