  1. I expect it is more a case of 100% concentration on getting their car around the track so no idea what is going on behind them. Trust me, this attitude has nothing to do with the car, it is just that those cars were fast enough for it to be a problem for you. Even F1 drivers have the same problem. But the fact is, if you want clear laps you make them yourself if the other people are not coming to the party. Slow down on the back straight or somewhere that won't affect your laptime and make enough space so that you will not catch up with them. You had three flying laps to sort it out... It is exactly the same problem you get on the Great Ocean Road etc...
  2. Yep... compared to Japan (almost) everyone is very slow so they can't use the momentum to come into the corner properly. Speaking to the Japanese driver's they said they only used the handbrake to hold the car out sideways after it is already there
  3. I think he meant by having smaller rolling diameter of the tyres (not the wheels) effectively changing the final drive ratio. 17" wheels may be lighter, but the tyres will be taller to give you the same diameter so I don't know if the total package would be lighter or heavier (I suspect lighter).
  4. Well the best drifter I know learned in S13 with craptacular suspension and horrid wheel alignment (mostly due to hit gutters). So he seems to think you can do it with stuffed stock suspension. I have only ever slid around a S14 with stock but fairly new suspension which I found very roly poly but very easy to slide. The drivers I have seen with crappy suspension that were drifting pretty badly instantly were better with new suspension and are now extremely good. So yeah maybe bad suspension is a good training tool. Hmmm, hard to know.
  5. Hmmmm... learning to cut with a blunt knife... I really don't know if it is good. Learning without a lot of power I agree with (stops you from being a straight line hero) but good suspension means you are learning to drive, not to compensate for the car being ghey.
  6. I dunno, after "pissup at a brewery" organised by Jeff I am not so sure... There was lots of important looking walking around and some pointing done as I recall.
  7. Hate to break it to you, but after a while 300rwkW doesn't feel that fast, then 350rwkW doesn't feel that fast... (haven't driven anything more powerful than that) The fastest feeling car I have ever driven was a 200rwkW VL Turbo. It had no traction and the boost came in like a sledgehammer. It was very silly and lots of fun. Depends what you want I guess.
  8. Sorry, just checked it...
  9. Driver training is some use. But I have had two accidents before I was 21. One where I was trying to impress someone, the other when I was upset. I guess the real key is to know when you should go for a walk rather than a drive. Both were issues of maturity I guess.
  10. No... I like it!
  11. Well he got there with a fully licenced driver in the passenger seat. So it would be a ride home in the passenger seat for him. No problem.
  12. http://bczaj.customer.netspace.net.au/sand/sand.htm Some good ones here...
  13. Stock suspension... Got squat?
  14. Yes, his name is riggaP... you need a 4-door and he already said he is using an instructor's car. If you had a clue you would also know that there is no power restriction on your learners or for your test (which you still do as a learner).
  15. Hmmm not sure if I have this right, but was it Rezz's car that had the Turbo badge on it? This car has one too!
  16. On a side note. I noticed that most luxury cars in Japan are LHD. I always thought it would be fun to import a LHD FD RX7 from America to just annoy people. I still have no valid reason why it is a good idea, it just feels like it is.
  17. Just for reference in 1991 Jim Richards set a new lap record around Sandown of 1'15.70 The track has changed a bit since then, but still...
  18. Absolute highlight of the day for me though (apart from that heavenly GT3RS) was that there was a MASERATI on the track at a Maserati club day!!!!!! Previously they were always part of Team Car Park!
  19. Ummmm he said his name but I forgot. I was the guy that forgot the word solenoid and was pointing at it going "that thing". Then I proceeded to give an only moderately sensible explanation about why the boost was spiking. I think about that time fumes and sun had got to me.
  20. Well out in the back carpark, next to a white R33 that was parked there all day. Walking back and fowards to the oil dumps with a water bottle full of oil.
  21. My friend was driving the silver R33 with 400R front which I have been very involved with. It was the first time out since the rebuild and it has been a lot of work so I was pretty edgy. Getting boost spikes, filling the catch can and stock suspension was just silly. I talked to one SAU guy. Can't remember his name. But yeah, I was not really pleasant to be around all weekend. Will try to be sociable in the future some time.
  22. No... piping still on the car. *BUMP*
  23. I am really burnt... My hand got covered in hot oil and my arm got roasted by a water hose. Then I couldn't remember the word for solenoid... I slept well.
  24. :jump: Thanks... I was grumpy last night, but definitely worth reading still
  25. *sigh* well that guy was a cop (hence the cop love). If you can be stuffed some time I suggest you read it...
