nah Leo .... I saw a few years ago a program about Apexi exhausts, and how they actually built around 250 (slightly) different exhausts for the same car and tested dB and dyno power figures to get the best result. You would not believe how the smallest change in angle or resonator type/placement can make a huge difference in power or noise note/level. These guys have a massive income from exhausts and must deliver the quality and results. Joe Bloe the muffler man is simply going to make the straightest possible pipe and stick whatever brand resonator and muffler on it - I am sure every single exhaust would sound completely different (and dyno different) on locally made ones - yet you can pick by sound the brand of Jap exhausts - I can tell a Trust PEII a mile away. I am yet to travel in a Japanese car with a custom exhaust that didn't drone and carry on like a pork chop at certain revs. And as for cost, the Trust Power Extreme II (which I have on the S15) retails for around $1,200 fitted, but if you shop around can get it for around a grand. Can't see how that is 3x the price I think the Jap made dump pipes and cats are not nearly as important (in terms of sound and power flow) as the rest of exhaust, and I use myself a Flyn performance front/dump pipe on the S15, and a 3" Catco cat (so there you go) The R34 has a Jasma cat-back, and I have bought a segregated wastegate front pipe (from BATMBL) and a 3" XForce high flow cat (off Ebay), and I am going to combine them with an Apexi ECV (from BT Revolution on NS.com), so I'll see how that combination goes.

Don't bother with anything custom made for a Jap car - Jap brand names are the ONLY way to go. The R&D they put into the noise and flow is invaluable for import turbo cars. Locally made ones tend to drone etc, and imho aren't up to the task. My 2c

when and where is it?

sorry to hear about your car mad34 - someone had a go at stealing my S15 in Kensington a few month back too (he never got in, I caught him in the act and scared him off) ....

Sau 'forum Members And Their Rides' Pics
Nightcrawler replied to Nightcrawler's topic in South Australia
When I (or someone else) can be bothered organising one Try Mick's one midnight this Friday night if you like to burn in the hills. I am thinking we should do an 'Xmas/welcome Andrew's R34' cruise mid-December to Victor or something. Keep an eye on the forums. -
yeah was a great day, but alas no GTR, which was a real bummer. The highlight of the day was Keir Wilson rocking up in his black Gallardo *drool* The massive downside of the day were the 1,000,000 flies (fortunately most of them were on Ash though) Thanks to Chops for bringing the Aeroguard .... I will post up some pics when I get them sorted out.

haha Pawley ... spotted a nice midnight purple R33 GTR at FBI on Friday too Yeah they have let me down big time. Had the R34 booked in for all the parts to be changed on Friday - turns out Trev never 'booked' me in the book, and has none of the parts I need taken off their grey one yet (even though he said they'd be ready). So now I'm a bit screwed. I have had to borrow MXTCs springs and change them myself with a jack under my verandah (NOT a fun job I might add), and am still looking for some front R34 indicators. Trev's missus said she will swap her exhaust with mine so I have taken mine off to swap with her until compliance, but I won't at all be surprised now if she lets me down again, and then I'm totally screwed as I can't find another 4 door R34 exhaust anywhere (as you well know)
-
sorry I have been so slack in organising! My R34 went to FBI on Friday to have the stock parts I need fitted, but they have let me down and haven't got the parts off of their R34 for me as promised. So I borrowed MXTCY's springs and indicators (thanks Sean!!) to get me on my way. So I have spent most of today fitting the front springs and half doing the rears. Anyhow, I am still planning to go to Mallala tomorrow. If anyone is interested and gets this post, meet at my place at 8:30am tomorrow. I will PM my mobile to those who expressed interest. Andrew

absolutely DO NOT leave your car without an alarm. In my opinion people who don't have alarms in such attractive cars deserve to have them stolen, and just make the rest of our premiums go up.
-
I think the window windup kit is $90 from the SAU and ns.com sellers. The problem with an alarm like this is the extras all add up REALLY quickly - even at the cheap prices offered. My wish list goes like this: alarm $399 battery backup $ 50 window windup $ 90 movement sensor $ 65 piezo sirens x2 $ 50 electric trunk release $ 60 Viper el light $ 30 Spare pager remote $140 TOTAL $884 + fitting of at least $300-$400 for all those items! Great alarm though - and would be pimped out to the max with all those extras. My other idea was to put about 4-6 piezo sirens in (in various hidden places), so if a crook was in the car when the alarm went off, it would literally send them deaf
-
edit: damn double post .... what's going on with the internet lately???
-
Was the alarm you were looking at at Autobarn the Viper 791XV? There are guys on SAU and ns.com forums selling these alarms for $399. I am getting one of these for the R34. Nozila and Sambo33 both have one and recommend them.

ok - now all we need is someone to provide us with details of what time it starts and I'll post a new cruise/prod race watching day.

Andrew's Pics From The Cruise 6/11/05

man, Shanna changes cars more often than her undies -
No I don't think I have ever had it in 6th at the drags nor at the track day - but it has frequently travelled long periods in 6th on big cruises down to Victor Harbour with no problems.
-
thanks mate, mine arrived yesterday! Great looking item! pear, give SAU member "Maxx" a PM - he sells them.
-
Which day has the best line-up of racing? I am going to head out on one of the days - at this stage the weather looks better for Sunday! Anyone up for a pre-meet and cruise?
-
Mine has done nearly 84,000km (most of that at nearly 200rwkw), and is fine. Has seen a couple of drag days (and a track day), and still no problems.
-
yeah it was at 17psi. I have a power graph for the current run showing boost as well and it is very interesting - on the 197rwkw line the boost nearly just touches 17psi (so I guess technically you're right), but it is only 15psi immediately before and after the peak - and at the max power level is only 14.5psi - weird!

Thanks for the nice comments! I forgot to mention - if anyone deosn't want their cars photo up here or in the 'members gallery', please let me know and I'll take it off. Yeah pity you didn't make it Sean - don't worry, next cruise we can do the R34 4 door cruise together thing -
in no particular order:
-
nope, none of my gears have ever whined. Take it back and tell them they don't know what they're talking about. But I have always had a little trouble changing from 1st to 2nd when over about 5,500rpm. Redline lightweight shockproof oil (from Autobarn) fixed that. Highly recommended. Is your car now gone Chapman? I bet you're sad! My R34 goes in to be complied next week - YAY!
-
thanks Sam ... fyi the 2 different lines are at 14 and 16psi.
