  1. I love racing on street tyres and the Street Car Superstars event was great but I've always said I'll stick some slicks under it and see what it can do and I reckon it's up to me when I do that. Just a thought.
  2. 1/ The class you're referring to now allows transbrakes and slick tyres. See www.sportcompact.net.au for details. What's more, they now only run 2 events per year. Not worth building a car solely for that many events. 2/ Slicks will be softer on the drivetrain than radials and you know it. 3/ The car is within hundredths of a second of its PB on its very first meeting out and with a 2.00-sec sixty instead of a 1.6. You do the math and tell me how much quicker it will go by just getting it off the line that quickly.
  3. What else are race cars for? Cruising past the constabulary on the compulsory cruise session of Street Car Superstars on Monday.
  4. What do you think the transbrake is for? Shopping for real tyres now.
  5. Randoms:
  6. MMmmmm... skids!!
  7. I said at the start of the day that with the current tune-up, an 11.xxx would be a success. Job done. Now it's time for 30psi. Bottle later.
  8. Fixed.
  9. Maybe you should have entered.
  10. Sorry, didn't read street in your post. I think the Galant - 11.something
  11. Rigoli ute 7.9
  12. Mark Hayes LC Torana - 8.3sec.
  13. One of the best parts of the day was cruising with this guy. Car runs 8.30's on slicks and went 8.60's on radials. Made the 45km cruise and drove through the night from Calder Park to be at the event. (They raced the day before!)
  14. Happy time/Great success
  15. He liked it. Ben, 20 cents and an icy-cold beverage please
  16. Oil pressure was about 60psi when oil up to proper operating temp. That's reading the gauge during the run. Haven't seen logs yet.
  17. Photos lie but I washed it at least
  18. Good and bad. It wasn't bad as far as first meetings go and considering the number of new things to keep track of and the tame settings in the thing, it didn't do too bad at all. First run out I blew the manifold to BOV line clean off and discovered that the spring in the BOV is about 16.5-17psi. It was doing all the boost control for me and we pulled every cooler pipe, hose, clamp and fitting off to chase the boost leak that was none of the above. With that problem sorted (but with round 2 and 3 qualifiers happening in my absence, I had to make do with a random dial-in for first round eliminations. I thought that an 11.anything would do for the day and so dialed in 12.00. It would only hold about 3psi on the foot brake so it drove off the line again (2.006 60') and with the boost leak fixed went 11.87 @ 120.89mph. The speed was back but the launch was atrocious. The transbrake would have to do for grudge runs soon to come. I forgot to arm the brake for the next pass so we just wont talk about that, okay? Last pass they had time for was ok. Good burnout, everything ready to go, transbrake to about 8psi and when i let go of the button it just went sideways and spun all through first with me peddling it to get it under control. I should have in-car vid of this pass soon. Slow (11.7 @ 120 - 1.9 60'). That was all we had time for today but will be back soon to revise the launch technique. A 1.60 60' time will see the car in the bottom 11's/high 10's no trouble at the same boost etc. Fingers crossed. Good to catch up with a few people today. Thanks to Elmsy, Macka and Yavuz from Unigroup Engineering for their help.
  19. Between the Plazmaman plenum and throttle and the exhaust manifold and other fab stuff from ETM, I've grown a new appreciation for excellent welding and design.
  20. The glue holding the driver's side lens onto my side mirror assembly melted in the sun today and it smashed on the workshop floor. Need the lens sooner rather than later. Also need an idea on what glue to use so this won't happen again. Cheers, Adrian

  22. Cheers. It just looks like a nicely welded, shiny box in those pics but I got to see every step from design to finished product and it's all incredible. Better welding than my car deserves, that's for certain! How's this for good lookin'?
