Swaybars- Whiteline VS. Jap brands
skyline replied to ~Hypnotik~'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There is nothing at all wrong with aust. made products (whiteline) we lead the world in so many areas that we dont have to follow like sheep what japan and usa are doing!!!!Im on my second set of whiteline bars and they have transformed the way my 96 gts-t handles. Regards, SKYLINE (Kym).... -

Reset springs, ABSOLUTELY DONT DO IT!
skyline replied to SLY33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
To all, Having been there and done that some five years ago i can only comfirm what your saying-dont do it!however i hope you realise that normal springs will in fact 'settle' after a period of time and the cars ride height and ride quality will suffer. This is my main arguement with the so called experts (the tossers at regency checking centre who argue that theyre illegal but cant quote the adr no.)the advantage of coil over suspension is that when this does occur you can adjust the car back up to the correct height(not dump it as they imply-we are always guilty untill you prove you innocense)this gives you the best of both worlds. However the best advantage is that you can adjust the 4 corners of the car to different heights to achieve the correct weight on each corner by using 4 car scales and adjust till theyre even or close to it! Whiteline works package for R33
skyline replied to morlock's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
To Morlock and all, I fited the original whiteline sway bars several years ago(in actual fact we sent Jim our bars as samples so the first ones could be made, these were run with std shocks and lowered springs-too low and the car handled very good.)however the ride was hard to say the least and we were suffering premature tyre wear so we up graded the whole package to bilstein coilovers, whitelines new adjustable sway bars f&r,camber caster kit to the front and double camber kit to the rear.before fitting these i manufactured a hicase bypass kit to eliminate the 4wh steer. To say the car handles is an under statement, its firm very positive, turns extremely well.Mind you the ride height was brought back up on Jims advice to somewhere around the 445mm mark (wheel centre to guard lip) as i had these all fitted by Steve Cramp(manta racing and bmw-gtp fame) i had the car corner weighted and he achieved near perfect balance with corners coming to within 3kgs of each other. I cant recomend this package any stronger than i have its the best monery you can spend on your 'liner, forget about any of the jap brand shockers as they are way to hard for our very inhospitable roads we have here in aussie. Regards, SKYLINE (Kym)....... -
To All, A couple of years ago i faced the same problem, that i wanted the flat look on our '33(but in our case it was to fit a center mount gt style spoiler on top of it) so what i did was to commission a friend Wally Sillins of SILLINS SPECIAL VEHICLES (S.A.) to make a very nice looking flat blade style drift wing with in built led brake light. We have sold 1/2doz here in sa. and one in wa.The price here was i think around the $250. fitted but unpainted,so i would imagine any going interstate would have the price adjusted accordingly(IE: - the fitting price) So any one interested give Wally a ring and make some inquiries (ph: 08 83879922 or email at [email protected] , he's a great bloke who's only too willing to help. Regards, SKYLINE (Kym)

To all, From what i've seen tested here in adelaide, the kit appears to be another japanese gimmick that one buys and every one else follows. When tested here and written up in zoom there was no increase in performance. If the factory deemed that they needed more earthing spots under the bonnet they would have installed them, god only knows there is enough now.Anyway my idea of a clean engine bay is to tidy it up and hide/get rid of surplus wiring! But hey every one to their own opinion!!! Regards, SKYLINE....

Yes Timmmmaaayyyyyyyyyyy, And all forum members and fellow import drivers, have a very happy new year,be safe we all need to be around in '04 for the big bun fight with the government over its handling of the police/regency vs all import owners!!!!! All the Best, SKYLINE....

not having front number plate. legal or illegal?
skyline replied to Bassit's topic in General Maintenance
firebladejr, when you mount the intercooler you wont gain much by cutting the bar down to give it more air flow as there is a metal anti intrusion bar behind, that legally cant be cut down Regards, SKYLINE.... -
Got my new car, looking for some help / a workshop.
skyline replied to P1E's topic in South Australia
If you live in the southern suburbs i would recommend going to RPM at edwardstown, alternately try manta racing. Regards, SKYLINE... -
not having front number plate. legal or illegal?
skyline replied to Bassit's topic in General Maintenance
PLPS. A front plate must be displayed at all times ,dont know of the lagalities of having to be in stock position tho.I've run my own front bar for several years here in s.a. and have used a hand made plate that will fit it with a sticker on it and have had several warnings so far;i tried to explain to the boys that a govt issued plate wont fit any imported nissan front bar- but they dont want to know.I'm currently making a new front bar that will take a slim line legal plate and still give an intercooler opening of 600w x3ooh so all should be cool. Regards, SKYLINE.... -
Steve, I'm still interested to have a look at the strut brace at your earliest convience, just pm or email me. Regards, SKYLINE (kym)....
-
Steve, I might be interestd in the brace, price is ok,my only problem is that it will fit over the top of my new (un-fitted) motor.I've built up (Mick at Tilbrooks) a good healthy 3ltr but it fits in at approx 30.0 to 40.0 mm higher(dont yet know if i will even get my 'glass bonnet closed)Is the carbon just rapped around the anodised alloy tubing or is it inserted into carbon tubing like we do on the carbon olympic bikes?By the way will back you in any way possible with your regency(project)- i havent been done yet(only a matter of time once back on the road!!) but if i can help in any other way please feel free to ask... Regards, SKYLINE....

The 308 is the true figure that the car made, how the reading got so highat autosalon is a mystery either a glitch on the dyno itself or someone has played with the figures so that it would win the event. The pity of it is that this recorded reading is and will be listed in the all time power readings achieved at autosalon, which is akin to barbi wining the whole years dyno runs by blowing everyone away with one run and having those figures backdated so that it wins every round and gets the back dated points! (I figure if your not there on the day you dont win! It just shows youto what lenghts they will go to so their prefered favourites win.)Also what it does do is make it hard for you me and the average punter to get onto these rcorded records when doctored figures are being posted as fact. Regards, SKYLINE....

The week b4 adelaide autosalon the jms r33 made 308 rwkw. What you have got to realise is this cars engine has stock internals so its a v big ask to punch these sorts of numbers and have any sort of reliability! Regards, SKYLINE....

John, i didnt get to see under the bonnet of your "street " gtr but knowing some of the good gear thats been "borrowed " for the streeter it will be an awsome package!(it was on the hoist) However i have been up close and personel with some of the work that has been carried out on the race car motor and this does look very impressive---love the engineering that has been put into the car and more recently the motor, and im sure the car hasnt run anywhere near its potential yet.I think i can say on behalf of the sa contingent good luck,we wait and watch with much anticipation---bring it on!!!! slamming R33 GTS with 255's on rear?
skyline replied to Cake's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
BOOST, Sorry for delay in getting back to you, i ran out of internet hours on sunday nite.Yes my rear guards are rolled, nothing on the fronts. My ride heights are 350mm fr,and 335mm rr, with -1.5deg rr camber and -1.5degfr camber, caster set at 7.0deg and fr toe at 0 with rear at 1mm toe in.The total car weight is 1448kg with corner weights at lhf 394kg rhf 393.5kg lhr 335kg rhf 332kg .Getting these corner weights this even is one of the advantages of running coilovers because you can adjust the corner heights of the car to achieve different weights and even up any discrepensies you may have. The weighing of the car was done on race car scales and done here in adelaide by manta racing (steve cramp ) Regards, SKYLINE....(kym) -
slamming R33 GTS with 255's on rear?
skyline replied to Cake's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
TO all, I run 18x9(fr) with 245/18, and 18x9.5(Rr) with 265/18/35 on simmonds le wheels. But be warned dont dump it any lower than 10 to 15 mm above tyre as the ride gets way too harsh, doesnt do the car much good either and you will need to fit a camber kit to get any mileage out of these,as the lower you go the more neg. camber you induce. Regards, SKYLINE... -
To all, Jap brands arent suitable for aussie roads,if you cant afford the ohlins try bilsteins i fitted them to my car some 15mths ago cost approx $1600 NEW. Regards, SKYLINE...

Adjustable Coilovers
skyline replied to HKSgtst's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Its true most jap brand coilovers are way too hard for our inferior aussie roads, ive fitted bilsteins some 15mths ago and can only speak to highly of them. They can be revalved and maintained in nearly all states that i know of and quite reasonably priced in purchase and maintenance. The other big advantage that bilstein, koni, and ohlins have over the japenese brand name is that most of these have had thorough testing done on them in aust for aussie conditions and as such are deemed legal, where as the jap ones havent been tested or adr. approved!!! Regards, SKYLINE.... -
To All, I replaced all my suspension components some 15mths ago, this envovled fitting bilstien coilovers, the latest whiteline adj sway bars, camber kit front and rear and the whiteline adj caster bushes on the caster rods. The reason you place adj bushes in these is to gain a little quicker turn in but also the aligner can stand the passenger side wheel a little steeper and this inturn helps the car track straighter on heavily cambered roads.Just out of interest i also made up my on hicas bypass kit and copletely removed the four wheel steering, which has made the car an absolute joy to drive (have had every one whose driven it comment how nice it is to drive- and very stable)The nolathene style bush will give you a little softer ride than using a rose jointed caster rod. Who has bought or sold a skyline in 2003
skyline replied to Dominic's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
To All, I must agree you do get what you pay for,you can have two skylines identical parked beside ea other and they are varstly different to drive and a discerning look at all the nooks and cranies(NOT JUST THE SHINY BITS !) will usually give a fair indication of the cars condition. But lets face it a car is only worth what the next person is willing to pay,(and it doesnt matter what you and i think but the person making the purchase!!!) If you think some of these others payed too much try this: x-mass 1998 we payed $47,000 for a 1996 s2 GTS-T with only K20 on the clock,so you can our dismay at watching the used prices fall! But hey thats the price you pay for being one of the first to own one of these great cars(and ive heard of a few more being sold just after we purchased ours that went for in excess of$50+. Its all relative i suppose, because our car when my new motor goes in, in the new year will owe us about $100k (incl purchase price)--- and you all say i could have bought a gtr-v spec for that money, but why have something that others can have when i can have our car that no one else can!!! regards, SKYLINE... -
Re SCS., To all interested peoples scs is in fact open to all imports (and aussie del as well) so entering a skyline presents no prob at all. In fact i have had the good fortune to win the top troughy twice (incl top display), the first time was with a stock but very clean car so dont be put off at all thinking that you dont have this/that and therefore cant show your cars. Its a great way of catching up with ea other and your respective cars plus enjoy the company of fellow competiters and the the public, but more importatantly its a great way of displaying the club and picking up new members etc., its what we have done very successfully with the svd. club in the past.Must go now but hope to catch up with some of you all tommorrow (were not showing car still under going major rebuild, however Chris my son will be showing his sss pulsar.)
