  1. you are correct; I was thinking of 'compliance etc' costs to get the car on the road in Aus. Iceland is bankrupt!.
  2. lucky or good planning: doesn't matter, you have it in the garage!!. onya!.
  3. WHAT WAS THE EXCHANGE RATE AT THE TIME YOU PAID FOR YOURCAR?.
  4. I used an agent in Japan to souce/buy my car; once we knew the purchase price, plus fees etc he sent an invoice, in JY, when I transferred the money from my bank to his, the exchange rate used was that which applied at the time of the transfer; not the time of the purchase.
  5. yep; wrong time to buy, unless the AUD continues to fall against the Yen!!!. but, a man's gotta have, what a man's gotta have!!!. as an example: when I imported my GTR [R32] the price paid at auction was 2m JY, roughly $20k AUD, with the rate what is was then. to pay 2m JY for a car now will cost roughly $31k AUD. obviously, the import charges remain the same, but it's still a big difference with the Aussie $ starting to resemble the Mexican Peso in buying power offshore.
  6. hi, this part is available from Nissan [Aus] but they may have to send to Japan if not in stock. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. expensive; includes door seals. good luck .
  7. whilst helping my uncle build a 20 Metre macinery shed we were getting levels for the guttering, using a fishing line along the facia board. the line was tied off on a nail at my uncle's end and the fishng hook [cod hook-100mm] was haning down about .5 metre [not clever] when the ladder he was on slipped; as he fell the hook went up under his chin and he was hanging by the jaw with the hook firmly embedded in his jaw and tongue. he had to hang/swing there until I could get down from my ladder and run the 20 M to his end, and get the ladder back in a position for him to climb back onto it. scarey shit because he had nothing to support his weight except the hook. anyway, he recovered quickly after the ambulance cut the eye end of the hook off, and then took the hook out through his mouth.
  8. 1992 R32 GTR stockers, blue, 30730, defintely not the most!!.
  9. yep, I know it was for the inspection but according to the guy, the problem was caused because of a blown fuse.
  10. the previous posters have hit te nail on the head I reckon. great as they are, the GTR [if that's what you intend to do] is an expensive car to own. have you checked the insurance on one?!!. if you can afford one OK, but if not, get something that is more affordable, yet still enjoyable for a year or two, then go the 32 route. let's know what you decide on. good luck
  11. there is not 117 litres of petrol in a batrrel of oil; once refining takes place that 117 litres is split into different products; ie petrol, oils, greases etc.
  12. I was surprised the law didn't have a radar; so was the guy!!. he was releived when the cops said they didn't know what speed he was doing. then the cops looked disappointed when he only blew .037 on the drunk-o-meter. pretty heavy fine for a fuse.
  13. stick with your instincts, go with a 32 if, you can afford to get a good, low Km, original example. my reasoning is, if one can't afford a 'good' GTR,... then one definately can't afford a POS GTR. repairs on a POS will severely damage the bank balance and will eventually cost more!. aaahhh, but the iconic, legendary, Godzilla, there is no better ride!!. they are not cheap to keep on the road and the RB26 is one of those engines that is continually begging you to wind it up, so... the fuel consumption will depend on your willpower!!!. good luck with your seach.
  14. onya for scareing the crap out of the 'scum'. it's all a big joke to car thieves; I went to court to see how the judicial system handled the shithead that stole my GTR [it has never been recovered]. he couldn't have cared less; paid no attention to the prosecutor, or the judge for that matter. this thief had stolen three cars within a week, it's what he does for a living!!. the cops told me he will be stealing cars the minute he gets out of 'clink'. what irritated me was that neither the judge nor the baliff steped in to control the thief and his girlfriend started calling out how much they loved each other during court proceedings. Ridicuclous!!!.
  15. slightly off topic: my nephnew joined the air force recently; he has just finished his first year and loves the life..and pretty good money considering his experience... he works out at Amberley. he reckons he is going to stay in for the rest of his working life. good luck with your new career.
  16. I'd prefer a regular meet somewhere on the Coast myself, but for a good roll up I would travel to Brizzy. some years back [in my V8 days] I used to go the Ford Cobra Club meetings. these were held on the first Sunday of each month; this was good because the meets didn't have to be continually reorganized , we all knew it was on and if we could make it we did, if not, there was always next month. sometimes there would be heaps of cars, othertimes only a few, but still worthwhile. perhaps something along these lines is worth considering!!. I'm interested in the details of the Saturday Meets so details would be apreciated. regards
  17. hi, I'm keen to meet with fellow owners'. since BWCP folded there is a bit of a void for meet-ups. so any new initiative is welcome. I'm going to the USA on the 11th of next month for 2x months, so can't participate in any meets during that time; but after/before, I will definately show up. any day/ni, is good for me. 'onya', for trying to get someting going down here!. regards
  18. if you really think the media has 'little influence' on the masses, then you are one of the brainwashed 'woolies' out there. also, if you believe that 'we' [society] can 'all' rationally shift the truth from media beat-ups, then you probably believe in the tooth fairy.
  19. so your idea of "harden he f**k up", is to roll over like like a pissing pup and take every kick in the guts the media want to dish out, without a comeback.. great plan!!. a previous poster said perhaps ACA should be invited to attend some meetings where legal car club activities are on display; I reckon that is a good idea; and just maybe it could show the other side of the story, and at least change the attitudes of some.
  20. I can't see what you are getting at here; surely if a person is not a 'hoon', and the media, or anybdy for that matter, lables him/her a 'hoon', then they have a right to be offended!. also, radio and TV have great influence on public attitudes, and programmes like those often seen on ACA etc help perpetuate the idea that most people with an interest in hot cars are a menace to society.
  21. GTR's are expensive to own but the ride is definately worth the expense. I reckon the best way to approach a purchase is to take the car to a recognised shop with a history of GTR servicing/repair knowledge [remember there is some 'quirky' shit in the GTR package] and give it over for a couple of hours for a thorough inspection. this would include a full diagnostic printout of the car's systems. any cost would more than pay for itself because you can take the results back to the seller and have the costs of any repair, as a bargaining tool, to lower the asking price. very good, original examples of GTRs are going up in price; you can buy a good example in Japan for <$20k and it will cost another $10k to get it here and on the road. so that's the sort of $$ you will need to spend if you want a quality car. as for the replacement engine; I would not go for it simply because there are plenty of cars with original engines. as with your concerns; most buyers prick their ears and start asking questions when 'engine swap' is mentioned. cars without original engines are not as sought after and should be selling cheaper than originals. you sound enthusiastic; the GTR is a fantastic car, only thing that will dampen your enthusiasism is pouring endless $$ into the new ride full of surprises. good luck
  22. YEP, bad luck about that site; perfect position. good onya GCCC; keep the foot right on the neck of those 'hoons', 'drug heads', 'undesirables' who used to gather at BWCP!!. I note with interest that Councilor John Wayne [real name] has become a 'crusader' [ just like Dawn] against the users' of the Helensvale skate park; in last weeks Sun newspaper he said the park "...would be closed down and filled with dirt..." if 'graffiti artists', 'drugheads' continued to conduct their business in that area. here we go again, punish all those who use the skate park and tar the legitimate users with one big ugly brush, because of the actions of a few law breakers. GREAT logic Mr Wayne!!. look out all you 'skaters', big, bad John Wayne is "a-cummin' to get yo'all". sadly, for you another elected, crusading idiot is on the prowl. I agree with your second paragraph too.
  23. I know the one; but not sure of who controls it. It's packed during the day, workers from Aussie Fair probably. I'll check it out nesx Sat night. certainly a possibility, good access and location etc.
