Rb20det Silver Top V Rb20det Red Top
FATGTS-R replied to GTAAAH's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Obviously engine swaps are a different kettle of fish but if the factory fitted engine is in the car and the power/weight ratio is acceptable then you are legally able to drive the car, obviously. But then modifying the engine would in theory exceed the power to weight ratio above P plate limits deeming it illegal. But the authorities are only going to look at the model of car and make a P plate legal decision based on that. Dont worry about them asuming the power/weight ratio has increased with the mods, they are not going to make you prove the power output. They have many other fines for the mods alone regardless of being a p plater or not. -
Did you have any people come out and have a look? Was it garaged?

Im confused????? I understand that a better flowing core will flow more at less boost but you said you didnt touch the boost setting, or thats what I assumed. So from your theory, if you got an even better flowing core than this one boost would drop again without touching the settings? And that if you removed the core and ran a straight pipe boost would lower by itself again? Transversely, if you fitted a restrictor with a 5mm opening your boost pressure would rise dramatically without adjusting settings according to your reasoning. Is that what your saying? I thought what Roy thought and that if your new cooler flowed better that pressure would rise on its own and you would have to adjust it lower.

For Those With Autronic Ecu's; Some Help Please
FATGTS-R replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just for more clarification, my tuner uses the ATEN adaptor when tuning my Autronic so I would go with that. Note I have an earlier version and not the SM4. The Autronic forums will also have the info you need. A gold mine of general Autronic info there as well. Highly recommended. -
I have an import R31 coupe and it came factory with no BOV and it had stalling issues. Never figured why Nissan did that? So I installed a $50 plastic Bosch item plumbed back and it works fine. At 235 rwkw there was no issue with it at all. Power is now at 280rwkw with about 20psi and the only issue is venting capacity as I get a slight flutter at lift off when at WOT and max rpm so I am going to just either whack another one on or use the standard GTR items. People always mention leaking and BOVS. How can a BOV leak if installed after the cold side of the cooler?

Oil Catch Can Question? (little Confused Here)
FATGTS-R replied to sidewazegtst's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Those other lines run coolant through them so you cant tee off them. The way you have it now, with the PCV bunged off and the hose running back to the inlet pipe is the only way it will work correctly in a sealed system. Other than having the pcv pipe to rocker left in place and running the other breather to can and then to inlet pipe. So basically yes, if you plan on making up a new metal intake pipe you will need a nipple to connect the hose to if you want to keep a sealed system. -
Please Help Info On Stroking Rb 20
FATGTS-R replied to Muffa180's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
As above, do a search as its been covered many times but just to add if you are going to use an RB26 crank dont use the R32 item due to the oil pump drive issue. "waits for Ash to lock thread" -
Who Makes A Good 3" Catalytic Convertor
FATGTS-R replied to Forged's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Surely the cells per square inch plays a part in flow? And what about ceramic vs metal catalysts? From my own experience, bad tuning has melted ceramic ones shut. One to the point it was literally restricting flow to the point it blew a hole in the top of the cat -
Ha ha The big PPPPSSSHHHHHHH when the truck stops/parks is when the handbrake is pulled up. Out of all the air venting noises a truck can make, pulling the handbrake is the loudest.

You sure thats an exhaust brake? Not saying your wrong but I drive trucks and have not seen one set up like that before. I have only ever seen the butterfly flap in the exhaust pipe and the Jake brakes which hold the valves shut for the engine braking. How does that one work. In relation to to BOV noise, as mentioned its the pneumatic release from the air brakes and in a bus situation from the airbag suspension as well. Sometimes when there stopped on a slope you see a bus rocking forward and backwards as the airbags try to level themselves. I look at the engine setups on our trucks all the time and I have no friggin idea whats going on. One engine has an internal wastegate along with an external gate as well that seems to vent back to the inlet manifold? And on the inlet piping they have multiple pressure actuators that I have not a clue what they do, when they open/close and what for.

Hi Roy Just to add, the gearbox on the 31 sounded fine when I first got the car with about 150rwkw. It still sounded and drove the same all the way to 235rwkw untill I did a windout in third gear on a rare occasion that it didnt break traction and then it instantly had a very loud whine. This whine lasted for over a year and also when power upped to 285rwkw. I decided to drive up to PI to see the group A racers and cruised all the way up at the speed limit and as soon as I slowed down to 60 as I came to the island a loud, grinding rattling noise started. It grings in neutral and if I press the clutch it goes away which seems like a bearing. I also never was an aggressive shifter.

I have an R31GTSR and it came factory fitted with a thermo fan bolted to the front of the front mounted cooler. I also dont see how much effect it would have though.

Not going but friend made 595rwkw last night and is hoping a supra dont catch him tomorrow as it made 525rwkw today. Friend cant run again tomorrow as he is out of dry ice. Dirty cheating bastard. lol.

If your target is 300hp @ wheels then the 2530 is definately an item you have chosen correctly and will be well suited to your intended application.

Definately was calling the correct number. Left a couple messages without reply and email was fruitless as well. Thanks for the responses, he will use the fuel and run a full system with one muffler and not much else.

Quick question guys. My friend is going in the dyno comp at autosalon this weekend and after trying in vain to contact cabin without replies I need to know the following: Is race fuel allowed? The plan is for martini 110, is that legal? Secondly, need to know if open exhausts are permitted? Thanks Jayson.

Why is your car always on boost? Dont be so heavy on the right foot. If your talking about highway cruising, slow down the speed so it stays in vacuum and leave a bit earlier to get where your going.
-
They seem to only get cheaper as well. Out here in the bronx (west) they are $99 each fitted for 235/45/17.
-
If anyting wouldnt bigger badder rods hurt response as they are heavier? Hence increasing the reciprocating mass?

Autronic SMC - 510cc injectors - T3/T4 - 14L/100km doing multiple short trips (read cold start) with zero spirited driving. 17L/100km if I let it come onto boost slightly during shifts (2psi). Only got to do one highway run to Phillip Island and back and it had 380kms with 1/4 tank left but the box threw a bearing as I got home so dont know what it would have got.

R34gtt Gearbox
FATGTS-R replied to 88silhouette's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
damn you mark! I have a twin plate in the redtop RB20 box and just thought I need any old 33 or 34 box but now you got me thinking about pushing and pulling. Let me know what you find out. Jayson...... -
My mate is running his car at the dyno and drags at Easternats this week and is looking for one of those suction cap mounted video camera holders that he can mount to the rear screen of his ute. Preferbly something with angle adjustment so it can be universal. Was going to use one of the suction cap things a glazier uses to carry large pieces of glass and make something but time has won in the end so he is looking to purchase one. Can anybody help on where we could find something like this ready made?

Tried contacting any of the workshops that are making aftermarket enhancement kits? Horsepower factory, APS and Nizpro come to mind.

http://www.speco.com.au/gauges_ad.html Is that what you are talking about? Scroll down to the second last line of products. Theres an oil filter mount next to the chrome bezels.

Aren't the gold terminals Brass? And supposedly are more resiliant to corrosion?
