  1. isn't it like a 12-14 hour drive from melb to wakefield?
  2. I dunno about wearing hte tyre in before going to fast, as Al said, they have a coating that needs to be worn off before the full grip comes about supposedly. As tyres wear down thier grip level decreases as well, but what roy was saying with street rubber when it heats up the little blocks start to move and you car feels 'squirmy' or a bit loose, mine feels that way once my street rubber warms up on the track.
  3. None down here in vic (yet) *touch wood* I wonder how an XR8/XR6T would go running similar lap times as the GTR's down here, would it last ?
  4. Yeah best price i've heard on a original S3 front lip only is $1000. rip of hey?
  5. My parents just bought a brand new Calais, i took it for a drive, felt like i was driving a matress.
  6. I wasn't knocking thier abilities, just commenting on each cars strengthes/purposes. If your requirment for a car is to carry the kids and wife with a caravan on a holiday, then a falcon/commodore would be a good choice If your requirment for a car is to squirt around a race track, then a GTR/skyline would be a good choice.
  7. Sounds like a selector has gone, interesting its more common for 3rd gear to go bang (like so: http://gtr.ferni.net/photos/07%20-%20Gearb...ox%20go%20BANG/ ) Not sure about fixing them tho sorry, there are a few guys on here that would know. I can tell you a brand new one from Nissan is around 3.3k
  8. use firefox (if you are then *shrugs*) haha Yeah history/older skylines probably were based on passenger cars etc... I may be wrong about the late model skylines 32/33/34 being based of more of a race car than family car, but the point i was trying to make, is Falcons/Commodores are good family cars (build quality isn't always the best), good to tow the caravan etc.. things that skylines (GTRs, gtst coupes etc) aren't really made for, the same way falcons and commodores aren't made to race around a track...
  9. http://www.japanesesportcars.com/skyline/s...ecs/r33_gtr.php my GTR is a 5 seater? i thought it was 4
  10. Just because there were some that came with lower end engines etc, doesn't mean they were designed around that. I dont _know_ but thought the skylines were designed around the GTR, and the rest were based of being the GTR's baby brothers etc... as opposed to Say Falcons, they are based of a family car, and the XR6/XR8's just have a bigger engine and a couple of other things thrown at them? Now you have me intersted - how can we find out?
  11. Whats this weight reduction stuff Chris?
  12. if your not on boost then it's not loud. only when your on full boost does it make your ears bleed... mate with a 33gtst has one, fsck its loud!
  13. Care to explain more? I don't know much about the older skylines, but somehow i don't think the R32/33/34 skylines are/were based off a 4door family sedan?
  14. you can buy them from UAS (nismo.com.au) meshmesh organised a cheaper rate for SAU members a while ago.
  15. nope, be thankful it wasn't your turbos
  16. Wayne: when they are talking about classes - they dont mean the 'group' that is out on the track, you get grouped randomly i think by the track day organisers, the class doesn't seem to have any effect on which group you are in, you may end up on the track with a bunch of mx5's or may end up on the track with race WRX's and GTR's.... Its a bit silly, i think with the masarati club they ask what times you expect to run and try to group the faster cars together and slower cars together etc... Don't stress about the class your in, its only for our internal club championship.
  17. Get a clutch built by jim berry, will cost less than the twin plate and probably last longer... I have a twin, i'd prefer a custom single.
  18. Should be interesting then, didn't realise you guys were so close at PI. Will be fun to watch, I just hope i'm not in the same group when you 2 guys are at it - i want to watch
  19. yeah calder was 1.02-frank 1.05-andrew. Andrews still damn quick, but don't think he'll be able to match the pace of Frank. We'll find out next Saturday
  20. yep, lots of people do/have done it, RB30 Bottom end, with RB26 top end... there is info on the forums about it.
  21. I'm sure you could have fun with them at a track day, as you could with anything, but you have to remember they are based off a family car. They are built with carrying kids and towing a caravan in mind, not hooning around a race track. The skyline on the other hand is opposite, and has some good natural handling characteristics. As you said, if you throw enough $$ anything can go fast. I think if you want to be competitive at club track days, your 40k+ on an XR6T would be much better spent on a GTR. But if you need to carry the kids and tow a caravan around then the GTR wouldn't be the best car for you. Guess you need to weigh up what you want it for.
  22. Frank has a few more things done to his car than Andrew as well i belive, bigger brakes, and some diff work...
  23. heartbrkr: I wouldn't go for cheap pads if your going on the track, they will fade really quick. Try some RB74 pads around $150 i think, if your really strapped for cash you may be able to get away with some bendix ultimates, a bit cheaper. As for tyres, are they worn on the inside only? or all around? Hard to say what to do without seeing them... I don't remember ever having the scruitineers actually check my tyre tread, so not sure what the deal is there. wwwrxxx: will be good to see another 34 GTR out there! Don't try to keep up with snowman tho, he's too fast! snowman uses bonnet pins, most of us other guys have some steel cable in that plastic wrap under the bonnet with some clips... geoff made mine, roy made a bunch last time.
  24. Cool, Like i said, i've put an R34 GTR one on a R33 GTR, and the airbag light stays on... R33 GTR/gtst are interchangeable i'm pretty sure. try it, can't hurt
  25. Well the questions a bit vauge he doesn't mention if he's talking GTR or gtst Not now you've made me doubt, i've seen an R34 GTR steering wheel fitted to a R33 GTR and the airbag light was on/wouldn't work... and thats what i've been told as well. Since R33 gtst/GTR steering wheels are interchangable, i would of thought the same thing will happen with an R34 wheel to R33 regardless of model. But if you told me otherwise i wouldn't argue with you
