  1. Hey all. Does anyone know who stocks Nissan Matic S auto trans fluid? I am assuming that most Nissan dealers would but I am also assuming that they will charge typically ridiculous dealer prices for it. Does anyone else in Aus stock it? Cheers Al
  2. I tried my Galaxy S4 yesterday and it worked fine, no disconnections. Must simply be something to do with the S2.
  3. Once the phone is paired via the normal means (aka. the instructions in this thread) then you should simply need to hit either the DISK button on the main control panel or Source button on the steering wheel controls and it should cycle through to Bluetooth music. Normally is cycles through Music Box, CD etc but once the bluetooth is connected then it should come up as another option. I've actually heard that bluetooth music was only introduced to the USDM models in 2010, so I really don't know why my 2008 JDM has it. Mine has a nasty habit of randomly disconnecting though for some reason. Works 100% with just the phone but as soon as I try playing music, it will play for a random amount of time and then disconnect the bluetooth. Turning bluetooth off/on on the phone fixes it up straight away but its still makes it too painful to use. I am guessing that it has something to do with it being a 2008 bluetooth system and a 2011 phone. Sudden thought......the above is with my old Galaxy S2 and I actually have a Galaxy S4 now. When I get home, i'll give it a try and see if it has the same problem.
  4. Hsv More Fun....?" Depends on your definition of fun...... Each to their own..... /CloseThread
  5. Sorry got confused by your original comment "door grab handles that house the power windows". I probably just didn't read the rest of the sentence. Painting them would probably have been pretty easy. Still not sure how people manage to scratch the crap out of everything so easily? Guess I'm just not 'baller' enough and only wear one ring.
  6. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-OEM-INFINITI-G37-COUPE-DOOR-GRIP-CAPS-LEFT-RIGHT-UPGRADE-/171062104948?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27d4189374&_uhb=1 I bought them back when the AUD was at about 1.10 USD. At today's exchange rate the price for two pieces of plastic looks even stupider! That being said, they do look ten times better than the originals. Mine only really had a couple of scratches on them anyway but I knew that they would be screwed eventually and these look way better.
  7. I replaced the door handle trim with some new peices out of the US. The price is rediculous for what they are but they are now the brushed aluminium look which suits a lot better. I have also seen dozens of pictures of peoples scratched up steering wheel controls but honestly dont understand how that happens. I now have 41,000km on mine and they dont have a single scratch on them???
  8. Rhdjapan.com can source new or used oem parts. Send them an email or give them a call in Japan. Or try Sewell Infiniti in the US, they can do the same.
  9. I didn't actually go through Iron Chef, I went through a local guy, Geoff at Prestige Motorsport. I was simply nervous at the time and wanted to go through someone local so that I could go and knock on his door if anything went seriously wrong....if you know what I mean. Iron Chef just has a very good rep on here so if I was to import again, I would consider going through him.
  10. Cruise control seems to be an option in Japan. SP's don't come with this as standard so if you really really want it, make sure that you check the auction photo's!
  11. Hey Ian, I imported mine about 2 years ago now and couldn't be happier. The GPS issue is a pain in the ass but living in Perth, if you really need a GPS, you'd be a bit of a retard. As long as you go through a reputable broker (ie. Mr Chef), then you really have nothing to worry about. I paid about $40k on the road for mine, it was auction grade 5A and when it arrived in Aus, the compliance workshop, delivery truck driver and even the licencing inspector all commented that it looked like a brand new car. They couldn't believe that it was over three years old at the time. To this day I still have people think I'm lying when I tell them that its a 5 year old car. I think that many Japanese really just take good care of their cars and that the horror stories that you hear about when importing are generally older cars. You should be able to get a mint 2010 for around the $40k mark. My advice to you is to figure out what you want, set your budget and then wait for the perfect example to come around. There are dozens of them at auction every week, so if you are patient, the perfect car will eventually come along. I am jealous because the exchange rate is even better now than it was 2 years ago, so with a little luck you should score yourself a bargain. Also remember to keep some money aside for the inevitable 'mods'. All of the best gear comes out of the US and shipping is a KILLER! Oh, one more thing, don't get a silver one!!! Everyone seems to get silver! It's that bad that my grey one stands out a mile! There is a blue one rolling around Perth and even though I generally don't like blue on a car, the V36 looks hot in blue. White is another colour that seems to suit the V36 very well for some reason. Good luck!
  12. Hit me up on FB WA V35/36's Colin. (Alistair). I'll take you for a spin at the next meet or we can meet up sometime and go for a drive.
  13. The GB organiser is a guy called Lance (1cleang) who has his own parts company set up (cant remember the name). I paid via PayPal and would recommend to anyone buying anything overseas via a forum to use this method. Paypal is far from perfect but your chances of being scammed are significantly lower. Tons of people have purchased through Lance and he has a very good rep. so I was never really worried. He deals directly with FI and gets a discount because he generates plenty of business for them. The main advantage though is the significantly shorter delivery date. Because all FI exhausts are made to order, normal delivery right now is over 3 months. Go through Lance and you should have it in 2. Thats exactly how it worked for me and that even included the Christmas break.
  14. I got my HFC's and cat back through the same guy. Good discount and big improvement on delivery times through this guy. Couldn't be happier.
  15. Has anyone called the number? Balcatta isnt far from me, I might arrange an inspection.
  16. All up was about $2.5k shipped to WA but that includes HFC's. Knock about $5-600 off without cats. Theres a group buy on myg37.com if you want resonated cats.
  17. Fast Intentions FTW! Costs a hell of a lot more than $1000 shipped but matched up with HFC's its pure car porn.
  18. Im no expert but I believe that your V36 350gt has more in common with the 370gt coupe than the 350gt coupe. I would do more homework if I was you.
  19. The sit back flips forward quickly with a lever as per all cars. I am unaware of anyway to move the entire seat forward quickly though. Considering that it takes about 3-5 secs to move the seat forward electronically, this delay being a 'deal breaker' for you seems pretty crazy IMO.
  20. Hard disk yes, sd slot yes, ipod integration no, bluetooth yes. I have an SP so am going off of what mine has. From memory HDD was generally written on the auction sheets.
  21. Cruise is an option but doesnt seem to be too popular in Japan. You can also have one installed if you really need it.
  22. http://www.jlimports.com.au/nissan-skyline-v36-370gt-coupe Google result number two when searching for 'v36 skyline'.
  23. Hey everyone, This is for everyone who is looking for a cheap (ish) solution to convert their system to English (sort of). This gives you full control over your smart phone and all of its capabilities. This can actually be used by anyone with any kind of OEM screen in their car, whether it has an existing touch screen or not. If you don't have an existing touchscreen then you will need to install a touchscreen overlay onto your OEM screen. First things first, here is a video that I slapped together of the system in action. The phone sits snugly in the centre console compartment and everything looks almost completely OEM. Two small switches and the phone sitting in the centre console compartment are the only giveaway. There are obviously millions of other things that you can use this for, I recently flashed new firmware onto my phone so don't have many apps to tryout. One thing that I am planning is to buy a Bluetooth ODBII dongle and the 'Torque' app from the market, so that I can setup a bunch of extra gauges on the screen and read any error codes that may come up in the future. On an almost stock car with only Intake and exhaust mods, the extra gauges are not really necessary but for anyone thinking of going with FI, this could be VERY useful. You can also get rid of the pointer that comes up on each touch, I just haven't bothered yet. So now for anyone who is interested in trying the same setup, below is a quick explanation of what is required and a list of all of the parts that I used. Please don't bother asking for a full DIY video because I literally had to do this through trial and error and have absolutely no intention of pulling it all apart and doing it again. I am not a mechanic or an auto sparky and managed to figure out how to get this working, so anyone else should be able to as well. The first thing that you need to be able to do is get the video from your phone to appear on the OEM system. I went with the RCA connections as this was the easiest and most accessible option, if someone knows of a way to hack into the TV Tuner and use that, let me know because it may result in a higher resolution output than the RCA connections. You then need to be able to pull the head unit apart (easy), pull the touch screen out (easy), pull the touch screen apart to install the MimicsX2 module and reroute the touch screen 4 wire ribbon (slightly harder), run 12V power to the MimicsX2, HDMI converter and MHL cable (this took some fiddling around and there will be probably be better ways than mine), wire up a couple of switches (easy). 1. The most important part http://www.customgadz.com/store/ 2. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AC1623 (I bought this one because I didnt want to wait, but it does get very hot. I changed the power cable connection to USB. There are other options out there which may be worth trying.) 3. http://compare.ebay.com.au/like/360596549447?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes (I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 right now, so this plus the HDMI to AV converter is how I get the image on the screen. Depending on what phone you have there will be slightly different requirements.) 4. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321065224244?hlp=false (I hard wired this in under the centre console so it is completely hidden. I needed a 1amp USB to power the HDMI-AV converter, one to power the MimicsX2, one to power the Samsung MHL cable. There will be many other ways to get the power to these three things, this is just the way that I ended up going.) 5. Short HDMI cable. (The shortest that seems to exist is 0.5m) 6. Short RCA cables. (I couldn't find any really short ones, so I made my own. Mine are about 20-30cm long.) 5. A switch to select between the MimicsX2 touch screen control and the OEM touch screen control. Again you could mount this anywhere but I mounted it in the gap where the weird phone connector was in the centre console compartment. I moved this connector and the RCA connections into the space below the cup holders, so that everything is hidden and all that shows in the centre console compartment is the switch. Ok, so now pros and cons. Pros: Well this is simple, you can use the OEM touchscreen to control the phone.....anything that runs on your phone runs on the OEM system, simple. There are some small exceptions which are really just related to how the phone works when using the MHL HDMI out cable (see cons). This system works for almost any smart phone. As long as you can get the phone to output the video to the screen, there you can use this. (Iphone's need to be Jailbroken to do this I believe). Cons: The image is not the best, RCA is old tech so does not even come close to comparing to HDMI quality. HDMI has millions of colours, RCA only thousands so the image is nowhere near as sharp. As you can see in the video, it is definitely usable though. If anyone can figure out a way to get an HDMI image (or something better than RCA) onto the screen, please let me know. Some of the apps do not function 100% perfectly when using the MHL HDMI out cable. With some video programs (youtube etc.) you lose the OSD which makes it hard to fast forward, rewind etc. This is really just a flaw in the Samsung (Android?) system and most of the apps that I have tried work fine. The GPS signal strength is practically halved as soon as the MHL cable is plugged in. This appears to be another Samsung issue and I am looking at wifi and Bluetooth based GPS boosters as a way around this. The touch screen is not perfectly accurate yet, its about 90% of where I would like it and CustomGadz is working on new firmware which will help, but it is limited by the quality of the OEM touch screen. Well there it is, let me know what you guys think. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It definitely needs a little tweaking, but I will be getting a new phone once the 2013 versions start coming out (probably an SGS4). I don't want to waste too much time tweaking it right now, if the video out system changes on the new models. Cheers Al
