To fix a weak area anywhere on your body, the best thing you can do is strengthen it. Society is paranoid when it comes to backs. Any slight discomfort forces them to stop what theyre doing. Different when jogging, you dont stop because your lungs burn do you, you dont stop curling because the pump is unbearable. The slightest hint your back may be actually doing some work, and people stop. Its not the exercise, its the mind you have to condition first. And, nobody needs to squat 200kg. I remember watching some guy tell Arnold he never wanted to look like him, Arnold replied "Dont worry, you never will" Dont think too much about 200kg squats and deads Dan, good luck. I f**king hate doing this shit over the net, one session and most peoples issues are fixed

You think too much. Deadlift is no more dangerous than any other movement. Every exercise has the potential to injure you if done incorrectly. Deadlifts and squats get a bad rap because the regular gym goer has dreadful technique and the PT has no idea how to do the exercise correctly. Another big problem is the lifters ego. Not long ago I noted that some lifters in the challenges used poor technique. The reaction was like I was injected heroin in to babies. The difference in my gym is that EVERYONE listens. So when you contacted me Dan about help, and I was honest and you were humbled. The reason EVERY girl in here deadlifts more than you is because we have taught them how to do the movement correctly, and theyre not scared of hurting their back when deadlifting 160kg. Same goes with squats. Recently Birds was trying to get his squat up, so I gave him advice, he ignored it. So he squats 115kg while my girls squat 125kg, 125kg, 140kg, 150kg. Its easy to dismiss it with blah, blah, blah, but the fact is no one WANTS to be weak, everybody would prefer to be stronger, as long as it didnt result in injury. The best place to get stronger is in a strength gym or with a strength coach that has made people OTHER than himself stronger. The PT industry is full of good looking chicks with hopeless clients who hold up their PT's like trophies. "My PT is hotter than yours" A good PT or strength coach has lifters you should want to emulate. If you weigh 80kg and squat 100kg, and you see a coach has his 80kg guys squatting 200kg, you should aim to train with him. Now, back to your question. The deadlift. So if 14yo Liam deadlifts 200kg and 64yo James deadlifts 215kg, and 48yo Nina deadlifts 142.5kg, and 12yo Jordy pulled 90kg, then Martin deadlifts 290kg at 20yo, and 75yo Eddy deadlifts 150kg, its safe to say that deadlifting is not dangerous, regardless of age or gender, if its done correctly. From what I've heard and seen, atmosphere appears to be very similar amongst all the PTC gyms. There are a tonne of lifters ACTUALLY competing this weekend out of PTC Gyms all over. Around 90 lifters from PTC's, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Gold Coast I think one of the reasons the franchise has worked so well is that the clients all progress quickly due to everyone having a goal. We have picked up 30 clients in the last month since moving. We had a 17yo come for a look recently, trained elsewhere. He watched Conor squatting 240kg, I mentioned they were the same age, he was blown away. Same thing happens when girls come in, thinking that heavy weights makes them huge, they then see Vicki, Sussy, Nina, Rebecca or Heidi out deadlifting most men and all weighing around 60kg Its an eye opener when you first walk into a PTC

Check out his start position Even though the weight is heavy off the floor, he keeps his back tight, never losing position This is critical for the lockout. If you give up position during the pull, your hips wont be where you need them to be during lockout Now check out how easy lockout is for him because of this

How good is it to see 16yo kids busting their ass in the gym doing squats rather than calf raises. Albert also benched 145kg yesterday and deadlifted 265kg last week.

Plyometrics training should take 5 minutes, no need to wait for holidays Dont overdo it, very dangerous on joints, theres a reason top powerlifters don't do them. I suggest jumping up, not down if you plan on doing them. Jump training is very valuable. I have my novice lifters do them, none of my top lifters do any at all. If you want to increase bar speed on deads off the floor, I suggest powercleans or high pulls if you cant do cleans properly

In this prep, 17yo Conor has squatted 240kg, benched 120kg and deadlifted 240kg, weighing 87-88kg Zoran has gone 260/155/300 Jack has gone 300/200/300 Max has gone 265/165/255 Martin has gone 255/160/270 Three girls have benched 70kg+ Heidi 72.5kg Sussy 75kg Nina 77.5kg I currently have 6 lifters who can squat 250kg, bench 150kg and deadlift 250kg Max Jack Daniel Zoran Martin Spiros I have others who bench 150kg or deadlift 250kg, but only these 6 can hit those marks on all 3 lifts, very balanced lifters. Harry deadlifts 260kg but only squats 220kg and benches 120kg Stelian benches 160kg but only squats 215kg and deadlifts 230kg Alex can bench 155kg but only squats 180kg and deadlifts 220kg

This is Rebecca, lifts in the 60kg class, still a Junior, will be hard to beat at Nats. Puts most guys to shame, she will squat 140kg at Nats, shes already deadlifted 150kg in competition and benches 70kg+

This is Conor, our 17yo lifter, lifts in the 90kg class, weighs around 87-88kg, good kid, been with us for nearly 3 years, Max began training him for soccer when he was 14-15yo, they went to school together. He tried out in England with Derby County and a few other teams late 2012. When he didnt get picked up, he decided to quit soccer and just powerlift. Benches 120kg and deadlifts 240kg as well.

From my 30+ years in the gym, lifting and training lifters, injuries like you describe come from muscle imbalances, considering how light the weights you use are. Your injuries have nothing to do with age etc. Nick mentioned Wayne, mid 40's, fallen off roofs and broken his back twice, so he joined PTC. He now deadlifts 230kg and squats 200kg Spiros is 48, he benches 165kg and squats 250kg x 3 I dont even need to assume you have not trained your body correctly by the weights you use. There are plenty of 40yo guys who cant raise there arm, none were taught to train correctly, especially if they only benched 115kg Give up because you dont enjoy lifting, but dont give up with a lame excuse like you want mobility when youre older Nina is 48 and out squats you, shes pretty mobile Why not come in and say hello one day, will it kill you? Other old lifters at PTC James, 64, 217kg deadlift, 165kg squat, 105kg bench Eddy, 75, 150kg deadlift, 100kg squat, 90kg bench Barry Murray squatted 200kg x 3 at 55yo on Tuesday at PTC If anyone doesnt train correctly, they could end up with injuries like you describe at 20yo Nick from here is 31 and improving every week.
