Melbourne in a day?

Ok, I'm over in Melbourne for a work thing at the end of this month...whats the best sights / activities I can do in a day in the CBD?

Never been to Melbourne before!

Go to Sydney... melbourne is sooooo crap i had to move as far away from it as possible :lol:

Just get the tram around the city and get off somewhere that looks interesting. Cant go wrong there!

lol smooth... see i feel the opposite.... when i moved from NZ to aus i went to sydney for 3 months and lived at bondi junction.... the place (sydney) gave mee the shits... everythings all spread out and the public transport system amst the ghey.

Um GraemeWi... if you just want to have a look around the city..

1. There is the Casino which has various restraunts, bars, clubs and restraunt stuff.

2. There is the Aquarium (which has fish and fish related creatures) which is pretty impressive I've heard.

3. There is the new federation square which has cafe's and various other things. Some arty stuff.

4. There is the Rialto if you want a good view of the city and melbourne. There is a restraunt up there too (expensive)

5. Southbank for just looking around (perving) along the Yarra there.. There is plenty of restraunts/cafes and a couple of bars.

6. There is the new Museum, Arts Gallery, and iMax if you're into that sort of thing.

Depends whether you're talking day or night or whether you want to hit the clubs and things.

Outside of the city there is plenty of other stuff to look at, but if you're sticking CBD they're my recommendations.

definatley depends on your scene.. melbourne is so diverse, and is a hidden city within a city..

Ok - now back from Melbourne.

Monday was a killer - real hot. Walked around CBD attempting not to get run over by the trams. Saw a couple of imports - 2 x R33 coupes, 1 x R32, 1 x S13.

Also saw some horrible units - Lancer GXi or something with the full Evo bodykit, complete with plastic wheel trims.

Tuesday was busy with work all day, but spotted a black R33 25T outside the hotel. Entertainment for the night was watching parking attempts in Little Bourke St from a restraunt.

Have to say the imports stand out like a sore thumb from the other cars...

Nice town, will be back for a proper holiday sometime soon! Only I think I'll give the Melbourne airport a miss - took nearly as long to get through customs etc than it did to fly over there

Yea, supposedly Melb airport now has one of the tightest security setups in the world.

yeah the airport customs are tighter than a fishes ring hole... unlike wellington airport which i went thru when i went back home in less than 10mins

LOL, nah, not the security making it slow...

They had about 4 flights arrive at once and the place just fell into chasos, masses of people backed up past the duty free shop etc.

Frankfurt had the most security I've ever seen at an airport...man they were armed with machine guns and everything!

I really like Melbourne, hope I can score another trip over there in the next few weeks
