Yeah, I heard about that as well. Apparantly it happened during the supercruise last night - pretty sad :D

I left before that happened though, so other then hearing about that, I had a pretty awesome day :D

I do feel sorry for the people getting pulled over at the defect station on the way down from Sydney though. There were heaps of cars in there when we passed by. It shits me how the cops/rta/epa try to profiteer from these sort of events. Fair enough, defect people for obviously dangerous things, but they were throwing the book at people yesterday for ridculous things obviously trying to do a little revenue raising.

My brother got a $500 defect for having a loud exhaust which is ridiculous as his car isn't that loud at all. Apparantly the officer shoved the microphone right under the exhaust when I thought they were supposed to be 3 feet away?

Also saw a stock looking black 33 (with Vic plates) with bonnet up getting harassed by the cops. Hope they didn't give you too much grief mate...

I went to summernats with a few mates yesterday..apart from thinking it was pretty tame as a whole we were one of the people pulled into the rta checking/defect station at marulan at about 7:45 am.

I was in an old school cressida, apart from sitting low it is bog stock..While we were in there was also a full VIP Celsior (import Lexus LS400) complete with hydraulics, R33 4dr, gtir, vn commodore, vh commodore. The gtir was going through a pretty full on EPA check, exhaust level, emissions etc..

The celsior was getting reemed for everything! Seatbelt tensioners not tensioning, wheels stick out from the guards while the hydraulics are on there lowest oh and btw the wheels were massive dish and stretched on tyres..looked hot! But it wasnt the time or place or complement the owner while 20 coppers and rta officers are going through the whooole car.

Anyways, the cressida we were in got a total fine of $420 plus 3 points. Biggest thing was that the front number plate was not displayed correctly..which is just crap, its in the standard position, just slightly bent. Also no horn, one rear number plate light not working, exhaust leak and too low to ground at one point and an apparent oil leak.

I did not see what fines and defects the other cars but we were lucky in a way we didn't have to get the EPA check done..

It was just a total revenue raising operation! Also had the sniffer dogs go through us and the car!

grrrrr :D

Only highlight of the day was seeing the R32 GTR 'TUFGTR' manage 679hp at the wheels!

Does this happen every year, or is it getting worse?

I have been to the Nats 4 times, ones with my car as a competitor. Have heard of the police, epa, rta, doing checks but never seen them, apart from the usual police presence.

The only thing that has happened was my mate, in his XA coupe, was db tested. Every year i have at least 4 friends competing in the Nats and this was the only check-up.

Well my trusty nissan pulsar hire car had no problems with the cops  Glad i went that route.

Yer the crash was bad I didn't see it as we headed off at about 8 as everyone was starting to turn feral.

So did anyone see the Blue ford mercury? First time I had seen it finished and she was sweet. Managed to bring in 9 tropheys, including best paint (did i mention my brother painted it :D ) and best judged elite car.

Yup, I think it was the year of the datto too. Never seen so many at the Summernats before!

Actually a Datto won its class in the burnout comp and also was very good in the Go-2-Whoa.

The blue GTR had pumped guards (more pumped than a standard GTR), it actually didn't look too bar.

The grey TUFGTR car was at WSID about a month ago. From memory it did a high 10 / low 11sec pass.

Which blue GTR are you referring to? Pic?

TUFGTR ran an 11.2 (using a standard box) at WSID a few weeks ago. It was making 415awkw at the time. Not surprised the owner doesn't know what is done to the engine as he comes from a V8+auto drag racing background and knows very little about Japan cars. He went for a test drive at Autostyle and was hooked. :(

    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
    • I got adjustable after market rear camber arm to replace the stock one's because got sick of having to buy new rear tyres every few months. Can anyone please let me know what the best adjustment length would be. I don't have the old ones anymore to get measurements. I'm guessing the stock measurement minus a few mm would do it. Please any help on replacing them would be fantastic I've watched the YouTube clips but no-one talks about how long to set the camber arm to.
    • Heh. I copied the link to the video direct, instead of the thread I mentioned. But the video is the main value content anyway. Otherwise, yes, in Europe, surely you'd be expected to buy local. Being whichever flavour of Michelin, Continental or Pirelli suits your usage model.
