Steering Shake With New Rims

Hey people

I recently got a set of 19 x 8 inch rims on my R34. Now the tyres are 235/35/19 all round, and have an offset of +35 which is the same as stock. The wheels were balanced etc, but when they were put on it was discovered that a 2mm spacer was required for clearence of the front brakes due to the shape of the spokes and big ass R34 front brakes. I also put them on the rear just so all was even. I have now found that at speeds over 100kmph a get a shake in the wheel, sometimes it is only slight, other times it is pretty violent.

Do you think that becasue the wheels/tyres were balance for the +35 offset, that with the spacer bringing it down to +33 the balance is out of wack and is causing the shakes. Should i get them rebalanced and get the tyre place to attach the spacer to the machine when they balance them?

As a side note, i have not had a wheel alignment since i have had the new wheels put on, could this be causing the problem?

Any advice would be great.

Alignment doesn't affect or cause the shimmy mxtcy is experiencing.

I suspect it's a result of the spacers not having the studs properly centred. Most rims these days actually centre on the hub, rather than relying on the wheel studs to centre the wheel on the axle.

cost around $60 each to get them rolled if they are

find a tyre shop that does ON CAR balancing.

that way they balance the whole assembly, works great.

but if you remove your wheels later on make sure mark them to fit them in exactly the same spot on the hub.

I would go with spacers as the culprit. I had "slip on" spacers when I purchased the car and had a very violent vibration at 80km/h.

Got all 4 wheels aligned and balanced to no avail.

A tyre shop told me the spacers was the issue and I removed them and replaced them with spacers that had a wheel locater on them.

Reduced the vibration by 80%. But I will remember to get the wheels balanced next time with the spacers and see what happens.

In saying all that, mxtcy as you only have a 2mm spacer I would get rid of them and machine 2mm of the caliper.

yeah spacers arn't they suposed to tie the spacers on when the balence them to get it right it happen on my friends r33 they balenced the rims and just slapped the spacers on it shook like all buggery at 100kmph dodgey tyre factory!!(TTF) spacers are dodgey anyways!

when i put my stockies back on my car. i didnt know my 19s had a little plastic ring that sat next to the hub and inside of the bolt holes on the wheel, mechanic called them "locators"... anyways, i bolted my stockie on tight! and drove it on the highway, and then to vicroads (clear a defect :rolleyes:) leaving vicroads, i noticed a wobble, pulled over, and i could nearly shake my wheel off, nuts pretty much just fell out... scarey shit, lucky i noticed it before i got back on the highway...

so with that in mind, spacers with highspeed, heavy brakeing and sideways... i'll leave my wheel 3mm closer to the car!

Locator rings are actually a very good thing as they locate the wheel onto the centre of the hub, stoping shaking etc. and they aren't 3mm or anything like that, infact they don't sit out any further than the inside bore of the wheel itself. All hi quality wheels come with metal locators on them. The spacer i'm getting made up are hubcentric. Thus the spacer centres on the hub perfectly and then bolts on. the wheel then locators on the centere of the spacer hub using the biult in locators ring. and woot no more shaking.

I have same problem I bought new wheels last thurs from ozzy tyres and same thing!!! where can I buy hub adapters??? And are they legal?? I'm mid way through trying to get them to rectify my problem as its their fault for not telling me. But their no longer returning my calls!!

what i meant, the locator, which was made for my 19's stayed on, so when i put my stock wheel on... the wheel never huged the hub properly.

i was just comparing that to spacers which would be 'long term'.

however i know of people with spacers, that even drift on them no probs... unfortunatly i can't afford to take the risk

      Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention

      So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.       From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.

      Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
