Got pulled up for a random breath test last night (blew 0.00 :P )

And was told that i could be defected for not havin the factory exhaust on the car,

there was no mention about being too loud, even though i think it might be lol.

As far as i believe you can have any exhaust system you want as long as it's not over the max dba, has an approved cat and is no less than 1 metre from the nearest opening window, am i right?

By the way i have a Blitz NURspec 3" catback and it is a bit noisy :P as i have the baffle out at the moment, with it in it's bout half as quiet.

Actually i don't think he had any idea what the car was, he was looking at the back of it for a while, and even took a second look.

For most people i think it would be easy for them to pick that it's not factory, seeing as though it's a nice shiny cannon :)

hehe, by that rule we're all liable for defect as i bet our spark plugs aren't factory.

what if your exhaust had rusted out and you replaced it with the cheapest easiest one you could find? i doubt he'd argue if you said something about that

Actually here in QLD, (dunno bout other states), but the traffic act (what the QLD Police govern under) clearly states that anything which is not stock from the manufacturer or can come as a factory option can be considered a defect and it is up to the officers descretion to defect or not.

Big problem is that you go to the Dept of Transport to have the defect cleared, and they are governed by a totally seperate set of legistlation, meaning something the police defect you for, is fine in the Dept of Trans eyes....... stupid!

Here in NZ they used to have a decibel limit, but they scrapped that rule and changed it to 'if it is appreciably louder than the factory standard'.

So now it is totally up to the descresion on the police officer, who only has his opinion to go on!

Mine is louder than standard, and the only thing that is non-factory is the NISMO rear muffler that it came with from Japan.

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
