Hey guys,

I was after information, about insuring my car as im under 21. Many companies let you insure it and if an under 25 driver crashes it its a higher excess. allowing me to put it in my parents name, getting a cheeper premium and if i crash a much higher excess. NRMA will do this, shannons insurance i was holding out on but they do this same thing but its only a higher excess if someone for 21-25 crashes the insurance is totally invoid if there under 21.

Basiclly im goign to put the insurance in my parents name to save money, i was just wondering who is in my situation or has any knowledge on the situation.

Much apricated

Michael

Yeah its in there name, will be rego in there name, and have rang the majour insurance companies and the only one where i will still be coverd on the policy, even if im not nominated (and jsut have to pay a much higher ecsess) is NRMA for $2200, insured at 15k.

Do you know of any companies?

my son is 19 has his r33gts t rego in his own name has it insured in his own name and cost him 1500 bucks a yr .the only prob in doing it ya olds name is that you yourself wont be racking up a insurence rating .and when you do couse you dont have a rating your premuims are going to be high anyway your really saving swa in the long run

Umm what insurance company is your son with??? And do you know how much it is insured for??? Still 1500 a year is pritty good, sounds interesting. Yeah thats a con having it in my mums name, but at this point in time i just want it insured and when im over 21 i'll start getting my own credit rating so when im 25 it shodul be alot cheeper, but atm i still think its in my best interest at this point in time to put it in there name.

Just car is a rip LOL, they want to know who the youngest driver is, even if they plan on driving it once a year. Then once they find that out they wanted to charge me $4,500 a year LOL...................hmmmm i don't think so.

Thanks ne way guys for your help, i really apricate it,

Dean if you coudl ask yoru son, who he's with and what its insured for, it would be very much apricated.

Thanks Michael

he is with just cars and its insurred for 15.000 g the thing with them tho every time ya ring up ya get a diffrent price . i pay 900 a yr im 46 for my r33 and its insurred for 18g with the same company

I had a hmmmmmmmmmm what can you say...... minor traffic offence last year, i think that will also add to the insurace and the fact i havn't had my licence over 12months yet. Hmmm i'll ring just car again, thanks for the info

Still no luck with Just car, at 15k they want me to pay over $4500 a year for full comp :D

Does any one else know of any insurance companies, where they have insured in there parents name and still cover under 21's?

Thanks Michael

Just so you know - NRMA won't insure any car that wasn't sold in production here.. e.g. Japanese imports..

AAMI will refer you to Just Cars as they are a subsiduary of AAMI..

Your options are very very limited..

Hmmm mabe because im 17??? I havnt' had my licence for a full year yet, and have also crashed, that might have alot to do with it, i dunno??? - sooo.. how are you allowed to drive an R33 Gts-t than.. from my guess you'd be on your Red P's.. 6 cyl turbo - against the rules if your in From: NSW.. doesn't matter if it's your parents car.. you can't be seen in it..

I got my licence in April last year then new regulations didnt' come in till eitehr june or july last year, therefore i came in on the old system.

LOL NRMA knows exactly what type of car it is modle, year etc. LOL and they not once said they couldnt' insure it, LOL yeah untill u make a claim, F*@^# theifs.

Suncorp is no go to, they dont' cover under 25's.

NRMA is off the list to, they won't cover a turbo car for people (GET THIS) under 30

I'm backed into a corner here, and have really no where to go? Can anyone else help me?

Oh just car quoted me $3200 the second time round.

Still way to much money when u think rego 800 so thats 4k to keep it onthe road, im only making 5.5k a year after school job. So it doesn't work out.

I'm open for susjestions and help please

Michael

yeah, insurance sucks. Do most people on this forum under 25 not have insurance. I jsut find it so hard to belive that no company will touch me even if its in my parents name and im not nominated on the policy, u would expect an excess like quadrupal, but still to be covered.

I'm still open for susjestions.

Thanks guys

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
