Hey guys would just like to get a few things off my mind before making the decision to go GTR.

Ive currently got an r33 gts-t and was thinking of modding it, but for the price i'd pay, id rather get a gtr (4wd, good stock power, wide gaurds), just a better allround car in my opinion.... but dnt get me wrong, i see huuge potential in the gtst.

Few thoughts on my mind though with the gtr....model im saving up for (getting a good deal).......is the r33 gtr. Things that worry me:

1) Rebuilds, how reliable are these rb26's when kept fairly stock?, i dont want to go all out, maybe 3" exhaust and pod aftermarket ecu

2) What are their main weaknesses even with a stock motor, and how to easily overcome these problems, if you can w/o too much money.

basically as you can probably tell, im after a daily driven street gtr, but mildy modded, enough to keep me happy:)

Like alot of guys have said on this forum, i have will save up enough for a rebuild before even purchasin the car, this will keep me secure.

Its hard to explain, basically i just want to know how to keep these gtr's reliable cause i knw parts for them are high roller, and i dnt wnna sink my pockets too deep hehe.

I recently bought a 96 series II and I would say buy as later model as you can, I found a big difference between the brakes on the95's to the 96 series 2's but it could have just been the 5 that i drove. also Vspec additions have quite a few differences, water cooled diff and gearbox 10mm lower and some other bits i think.

There are tons of mechanics that can coach you through the best mods for daily driving. I am also interested in this as I drive mine every day also and am soon going to start modding. Issue 56 of HPI has a good article on a GTR built for reliability but nothing too crazy providing 361kw at all four with twin turbo setup and only about 15k spent on it.

Anyhow they are a great car, lots of fun and very tough so your pretty safe.

sb..

thanks mate, why do everyone class the 33's as the weakest, i know they are marginally slower in stock form than the other two....when it comes to look, its always personal preference, i actually like the design of the r33 gtr's

Anyway im gnna see what my importer has to say, and arrange some sort of deal.

P.s what are r33's gtst's going rate atm, fairly stock fmic, zorst pod, 18" rims, and 170,000 kms:(, oh and Auto series 1 coupe

Your GTST would be lucky to be worth $12000.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
