..OK, so after the HID group buy, I'm totally wrapped with the lights, I've got them in my low beams at the moment. because the skyline lowbeam sucks pretty much.

however, It seems as though other road users dont actualy know what the heck a Xenon light is.. much less keeping up with latest lighting technologies. It would seem that every second gump thinks my highbeams are on, and I happened to be completely oblivious.. so I might require some reminding, in the form of highbeam flashing or dropping behind me, just to put their highbeams on while tailgating.

I'm really wondering if all the others who went in the group buy, or even own HIDs get this kind of treatment?

even more, I'd like to know if owners of cars, that actually come stock with Xenon HIDs such as the BMW 540i?

also a note to bankids if you read this post?.. can i get another set ot H1 6000k :P load up my highs to give some back, ...although I'm sure they still wont get it "he has 2 highbeams im confused"

maybe u hav'nt adjust ur headlight very well normally there will be 2 screws to adjust the hight and angle of ur head light,

because acturally the light wave length are different from hid to halogen, so maybe the older car's headlight assembly is not designed for hid so the light won't be reflected to the same position as ur normall halogen, however i've got only once flashed by other ppl when i was on the ramp. so i think if u adjust the light well it won't be a big problem

for the cars with original hids they have either projector lens or Hid complied headlight assembly

cheers for the link,

ive been reading some other sites and it looks like HID kits with no auto leveling reflectors, are indeed technically illegal. Im considering swapping the HIDs with the artic halogens that are currently in my highbeam. That way street driving isnt going to blind anyone, and have the HIDs in my highbeam.

Not sure if theres any auto leveling skyine headlights, even if there is.. I cant imagine them being cheap in anyway.

just adjust the beam further downward, so that they are not aimed so high. when i first put mine in i drove around a few nights without adjusting them because they didn't seem to be aimed excessively high and had quite a few cars flash their high beams at me. one bogan pulls up next to me, gives me the finger then goes behind me and puts his high beams on... i think i had already got the message by then.

yep

thats why xenons are removed from r34 lights when theyre imported

in australia, well in melbourne at least xenon/hid lights can only be used when they are used in conjunction with a self levelling projector housing

Never had a problem with anyone flashing me with my HIDs on (low beam) - BUT the first thing I did when I hooked them up was checked the height on a wall, and made sure the beam was below my highs.

If your lenses are dirty, or the bulb isnt sitting quite in the right spot, you may also be getting some scatter which is blinding people.

Light height is easy to adjust - if nothing more, it may save you from getting a defect if its a cop you blind

    • I refreshed the OEM injectors with the kit and connected it up. It now ideals okay even with the IACV removed. Driving still has the same cutoff issue like the 550cc injectors so the issue is somewhere else. I bought FPG's Fuel Pump Hanger. I will be installing it next, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it was with my limited wiring knowledge and no instruction on the specific model I purchased (FPG-089). I also got the incorrect billet clamp as I could not find info on the OEM sizing.

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.

    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
