Hellow fellow liners,

Currently own an R32 GTS and looking to upgrade to a GT-R :P

The problem is its 15kw over my 125kw per tonne limit.

Ive been told i can remap the ecu so the output of power is less and ill fall under the limit.

Is this possible?

Any help/advice/abuse welcome.

Cheers.

the ban is based on factory power output and not current or dyno'd power.

while it is possible to own one, sit in the driver seat, rev it, spool up some boost, and be in awe of all of your friends it is certainly not legal to drive one on the roads.

not to mention its a f**king bad idea as far as safety is concerned

not to mention what you hit when you slide at 80km/h cos youve boosted it and the 4wd has snapped it back into line when you've lost traction, its only a matter of what do you hit, a tree, a wall? someone else's car? a child?

honestly mate i couldnt care less about what sort of driver you are or how good you think you are or arent. im sure victor bray was the same when he was on his p's too. the matter of fact and the purpose of this thread, was could you drive a skyline GTR on your plates, and the simple answer is no

legally you cannot.

Thats so wrong. Here in canberra you can drive ANY CAR YOU WANT on your p's. My mate had a r32 GTR 3 years ago when they were hell expensive, and rare as fcuk! He was only 17 years of age, and he never had any problems with it? Again, its the attitude. Depends where you live too man, i suspect your in VIC because of the power/weight and then if thats the case, you cannot drive a GTR. Tough break really:P Move to canberra, how about thhat for an idea?

any other opinions?

Its not a matter of opinion.

If your concern over owning a GT-R is because its over the power to weight limit, then your issue is whether its legal.

And that's not a matter of opinion. The law is pretty f**king black or white.

You're fishing for an answer you'll like, rather than one that's accurate, if someone tells you where you stand legally and you start asking for other opinions. You might get an answer more to your liking, but it will be wrong.

It sounds like you're not mature enough to drive any sports car. Another opinion, since you asked, is that you should trade your car in and buy a Corolla.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
