Just a quick question...

Would the price of a r32 1991 gts-t if i were to buy now under the old scheme, be more expensive to buy later in the year under the new scheme?

So if i bought this r32 stock standard now, how much would it be worth at the end of the year?

I have 10k saved up and lookin to buy this stock standard r32 and take a 2k loan

Is it best to buy it now....or just wait and buy it later in the year

Thanks in advance

Would u buy now...or wait till the end of the year and buy a similar car

Just a hypothectical...Buy now and take a loan from parents

Or buy at the end of the year and possibly pay more for the same car

hmmm.... if you intend on spending 12000, and borrowing 2000 from a bank or even your parents, that should get you a decent r32. what about other costs? the main one being insurance? a 2 door, turbocharged (insurance favourites) IMPORTED performance car, living in victoria (close to melbourne?) i dont think you will get out of this deal cheaply (castrate is more like it if you buy the insurance under your name). we arent talking hundreds here, we are talking thousands! is 10,000 plus the 2000 you are going to borrow going to be enough?

as everyone one's been saying, Geoff at prestige, Craig at J-Spec, buy NOW, don't wait for the new scheme, the new scheme is going to suck.

and i'm going to have to buy with it in full swing :D

Hate to be a wet blanket, but have you considered sometihng different for your first car? R32 GTSt isn't a real good first car, it's too easy to get into big trouble. Maybe a non-turbo or something. As much as I would've liked the 33 when I was 17, I'm damn glad I didn't have it, I probably would've killed myself/someone else...

At the very least, hold off getting the car until later in the year - that way you don't have to pay your parents back, and will have some experience at the wheel. And on a slightly unrelated note, come to a driver training/skidpan/whatever day, you would be absolutely astonished how much you'll learn! Not trying to sound like an old bugger, but I work in the hospital system and see the end results of powerful cars with young guys at the wheel who don't know how to control it properly... don't just say "nah, she'll be right", actually think about it first. If you *know* you're sensible enough to hold back (would you be able to resist a challenge from another car? etc) then consider the GTSt.

i was 17(nearly 18) when i got my l32, 2.5 years ago. You just have to very carefull or else it will bite you hard.

If you have never driven anything cars karts etc and are learning to drive dont bother untill you are a confident driver, not just someone who is capable of sitting behing the wheel.

yeah i agree ... make sure u are very confident in your abilities cause i found it was a steep learning curve, i couldn't handle the power at first and got myself into trouble a couple of times with oversteering, had an accident ... but now i'm ok ... i could afford the insurance so it was ok ... if u can't afford insurance than think of getting something cheaper ... less hassles for you later on guaranteed ... good luck mate!!

I have to agree. Unless you have been Karting or have experience in driving with power, not a good choice. I was 24 when I got my 33 and before that I had a 998cc mini, Gt clubman mini and a Gemini panelvan. The minis were great, raw driving experience, no electronic helpers and very forgiving and not to mention cheap. Still nothing is as fun as punting the mini through the bends. Go do an advanced driving course. Learn car control then go for power.

Don't want to sound old and boring but you don't want to learn the hard way.

Jeez Revhead you are getting old!!!

But as devils advocate, you know that someone who can half drive can still easily get themselves into trouble in a non turbo R31. It is fairly idiot proof due to the sheer lack of hp, and a novice in a GTST could very well get in over their heads. But an R32 isnt exactly quick/powerful or hard to control in stock/semi stock trim. You can get yourself in trouble in any car.

Blade - dont leave yourself with $0, you will regret that very quickly.

i Think a r32 is fine. If you are an idiot you will crash it an get into trouble no matter how old you are. If you are 17 and responsible you wont have a problem. and if you are going to do anything stupid make sure its in a nice quiet area with no one sle around so the only thing you can hurt/break is your car and yourself.

Bleach - agreed, that was part of the point of what we are making. But don't forget that, at 17, the vast majority of people have little or no real driving experience, regardless of their level of maturity.

While some 17 year olds could really handle a 500hp GTR, I dare say that they are very much in the minority. And no, this isn't a stab at 17 year olds - I'm just talking from experience. While I'd like to consider myself to be a fairly sensible person, I probably wouldn't have had the discipline to not 'try it out' or to resist a bit of peer pressure at 17.

It's good to see some wise heads offering advice.

We all love Skylines because they're great cars to drive. Part of that reason is that they're very powerful (the turbo ones anyway).

Insurance for a 17/18 year old is bloody expensive for a good reason: because 17/18 year olds have the most accidents.

You WILL make mistakes early in your driving career. We all do.

So be smart about it. For the first year or 2 drive something that will get you into less trouble & cost you less so you can save for something like a Skyline in a couple of years when

a: You'll probably be a better & smarter driver

b: Your insurance premiums will be lower

c: Hopefully you won't still be paying off an accident you had when you were younger & less experienced.

There are plenty of cars around that are cheap but still fun.

Make your mistakes in one of them, then get something fast.

Good luck!

Im turning 21 in a few months and stepping up to a R32 GTSt the day i get off my P's (victorian). Ive driven an R31 for the last 3 years, driving 600km a week, and never had an accident or a fine. I am glad that ive waited to own a powerful car, i think the experience if gained has probably saved my life at least 4 times now.

PS Just thought Id say that u cant import a 91 model. Has to be later than June 92. And i thought there were no more R32 comp. plates left.

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
