6x9 Install--s1 R33

Just picked up some clarion 6x9s for my 33....done a few installs before but not sure how to approach this one...

Still has nissan speaker holders in the back for 6" but having trouble getting them out...

anyone done this install and have a guide???

Take back seats out to access rear parcel tray removal. Loosen rear pillar trims that slot into parcel tray. The tray itself will have about 3 clips holding it down, maybe a few that slot in as you slide in, so from memory you pull up, then slide out towards front of car. The rear speakers will be in mounts attached to parcel tray.

6x9's will fit in by cutting parcel tray or making a mounting baffle/spacer that sits on the parcel tray.

They are a pain to fit. I wouldn't fit them personally, but 6x9's are a good cheap alternative for someone who wants a bit of bass, but not a sub.

yeah i figured the rear seats would have to come out, was hoping someone with insider knowledge would tell me other wise lol........well should be a fun afternoon :laugh:

Don't cut any metal on the shelf. As an engineer I can tell you that you'll have issues with both insurance companies and the RTA as they tend to frown upon that type of thing these days. Instead either make yourself some 18mm MDF spacers and secure them to the bottom of the shelf. Remember only the midrange and tweeter on the 6x9 need to fire through the hole. The 6x9 woofer can thump away quite happily with part of it covered by the factory hole.

Another option is; you could always get yourself a set of pro-pods. We use these pods all the time on shelves. Once they're dyed to match the colour of the original trim they fit in perfectly.

Hi Ezz35,

There are all sorts of problems you can encounter putting 6x9's in a skyline.

The most major one is when you cut the metal. In short if you cut within 300mm of a child support or structural point of the vehicle your car becomes an instant defect.

Most cops will know this, the rta certainly does.

Let me tell you if you do decide to do it and get busted, the price of rewelding your parcel shelf to factory and then getting an engineers certificate on this way exceeds the cost or sound benefits of 6x9's.

Think about it before you do it.

If it was my car I would just go for a set of 6' three ways, after all, the rears in most street cars are just for noise for the occasional passenger.

We ended up gettin them in there, no cutting of the metal under the parcel shelf... not sittin real pretty right now but working well(sitting bout 3cm above the shelf) but after ended up trimming the shelf to fit them i think ill just go and find some pods to install with them...sounds great tho lol....

i am also currently installing 6 x 9's and i know how much of a pain it is trying to install them :dry: so its just a matter or ripping the back seats out, cutting the tray and shelf and putting it all together.

did u have issues with the battery and stuff under the shelf?? I was looking at it before and there is not much clearence..was going to pull the whole thing out and do the same and cut some holes...however the pods in the post above might looks good and direct the speaker more toward the front.

i have these pro pod u shown in the pic...does that mean i wld have no prob install 6x9s??

      Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!

      Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that

      Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

      What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
