Ska
Yeap, 5 speed manual conversion, but I have the Nismo Heavy Set gears in my gearbox, it was totally refurbished before it went it, which was well before I bought the vehicle. So I am guessing that the gear ratio's are a bit short, which is great for get-up-and-go, but not for highway cruising nor city stop-start driving. Yeah, I was going to ask if that was standard 32/33GTR ratios? Would a diff ratio change be possible, would only need to be minor I guess? Just a taller 5th gear would be nice hey. Ska
I already have a gtr diff, and am quite happy with my fuel usage, condsiering I had the pfc economy tuned, it's been excellent on fuel, compared to what it was when I had the power tune! Terminal
oooo, i can't wait for my gearbox and powerfc to go in and start saving fuel. it's all sitting in my garage waiting to my wallet to repair itself from my suspension Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/108945-petrol-usage/page/5/#findComment-2222074 Share on other sites

Tangles
If u want to improve fuelconsumption, what would you recommend, and how much would it cost? Brands new Oxygen sensor, make sure exhaust system is free flowing, and engine has ample loads of clean cold air (pod & fimc), obviously ensure engine is running smoothly, and tune air/fuel mixtures via a piggyback / standalone ECU. EGA41T
well i installed a new oxygen sensor today, hopefully it will help with my fuel economy issues (last tank was 19.7L/100Km) i have already replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the injectors to no avail, so hopefully the oxygen sensor is the go. AlexCim
mate, right foot is your problem its a stagea... it aint going to be easy on the fuel BTW, you ever noticed that your 260RS front bar is different to the actual 260RS front bar? Techo
This week I did 480km off 60L. I think that equates to 12.5L/100Km. But to get that i had to baby it all week with only a couple of squirts. AlexCim
thats exactly it to haul all the ass that is a stagea takes a lot of throttle.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/108945-petrol-usage/page/5/#findComment-2233019 Share on other sites
EGA41T
i dont always thrash my stagea, if i was constantly thrashing it then i would expect the crappy economy im pretty sure that my front bar is the same as a 260rs front bar, you are thinking of the S1 260rs, i have the S2 260RS front bar. EGA41T
well ive gone through just over half a tank after changing the O2 sensor and fuel economy seems to be unchanged, i will be changing the air filter to a K&N equivalent panel filter, perhaps that may make a difference. im running out of ideas, ive already changed O2 Sensor, fuel filter, used injector cleaner. anybody have some other ideas? Check out post 58 of this thread - that is what I've done to get consistent 10/11 L/100km out of our old series 1 stagea with the auto. Sounds like the from what SKA is saying, manual is good for an additional 5% economy, at least. Sell those shares in BP and start investing in some more bits ! I'd do the Jaycar DFA first, (its only $70 odd bucks) then go from there. EGA41T
One thing to keep in mind looking at this thread, is we've got at least two types of stageas being compared - series 1 versions (which I have) and series 2 versions (neo engine?) , then also possibly some later model ones with the VQ series engine ? If there are people comparing fuel consumption of the VQ series engine with the RB, I reckon the VQ will win hands down, as anyone who has owned a Maxima will attest, they are fantastic engines and very efficient. Unfortunately, I have an early model, series 1 stagea, and was initially appalled at the fuel economy of the stock vehicle. Now after 18 months or so of ownership, we're consistently getting 520 to 540 km out of a tank (55-58 L fill). Mostly commuting, and running around in short to medium trips, rarely in peak hour traffic. If you want to know what I put this down to, it includes (in order of merit) Jaycar Digital fuel adjuster -- don't leave home without it, worth about 10% improvement Revised valve body for the auto from the guys in Adelaide, worth about a 10% improvement I reckon behaviour - light foot and drive around with converter locked up in overdrive as much as possible 3 inch free flow exhaust and K&N panel filter - let her breathe Iridium spark plugs - they extend the lean misfire limit allowing me to tune the DFA leaner at cruise. keep tyre pressures above 35 psi (heavy car) These are the mods that have got us from the original 15-17 L/100 km when we bought the car, to the now manageable and repeatable 10 - 11 L/100 km. In fact, we now get the same fuel economy towing my gazelle and trailer (total 1500 kg) than we did with the original stock car in an unladen state ! Not bad for a series 1 RS4 auto....... In fact, I haven't been on a long run since the valve body upgrade in the auto, which has made such a dramatic improvement in performance and economy, that I reckon next time we go for a long drive, a high 9 L per 100 km will be on the cards for sure. great info mate. ive got a high flow cat and split dump pipe coming, so that will be sorted soon does anybody know the part number for the K&N panel filter to suit R33/R34 Air Boxes? how much did it cost you guys to get ur DFA tuned on a 4WD DYNO? and where (if in sydney) did you get it done? AlexCim
From a recent cruise on friday night, i have a video of my car BLOWING flames when accelerating away when on WOT. Through first, 2nd and into 3rd it spits flames. Here are a few pics (videos bit big to post) I now know why my muffler makes a really annoying popping noise on idle... ive kinda melted/screwed up its insides. I never knew she blew flames before this video (no ones ever said anything). The flames are not because ive dropped ign on a cyl either coz power delivery was as smooth and strong as ever, its just stock ecu with GCG + 15psi Can just still see the flame there in the last picture PS. Ive got a pipercross air filter, split dump/front pipe, $440 catco cat, fuji catback, new o2, gcg highflow and ebc'ed up to 15psi on FB and i still get low 20's nailing it around like that on cruises. City i get ~15L and highway about 10-11L. Ive learnt that stageas are REALLY dependent on the foot. Anything over granny spec and you are going to start using fuel no matter how "little" you give it a squirt. Also, hills kill it. If you live in a hilly area...
