hey guys.....lookin at buyin the N1 front pipe for my existing N1 exhaust. read somewhere that it actually eliminates the cat all together is this true?? this would then make it "illegal":D "for racing only?"

any suggestions to any other front pipe that i could use.....prefferably lookin for one with the flexi-joint thingy.

Hello Mr Fanny,

Just out of curiosity, were and how much did you end up paying for your N1 rear muffler cat back if you don't mind me asking?

How does it look and sound, as I would like to purchase one myself. One other thing also is Adrian, do you actually have a N1 front pipe or a GT front pipe coz I know that these 2 are different

is this right or wrong?

Thanks guys,

Gianni

he guys.......mine is a dual N1, got it for $500 private of someone on the performance forum.....keep an eye out Gianni....they pop up once in a while if ur willin to wait:D sounds fantastic....fairly quiet at idle and normal driving......no probs with the windows up. screams crackle and pops when it needs to on boost....over all its awsome....looks the part too.

i agree with u too gianni.... i was under the impression that the GT pipe didnt have the flexi joint though it is stainless and the N1 does have it but its black coated like adrian said. well this is what i saw on the perfect run website. The trust front pipe is black without flexijoint.....could u have this instead adrian?? i dunno:D

The trust front pipe should fit, as it is a straight replacement from dump to cat. As long as your N1 is cat back, the trust one will fit no problems. There is a guy selling a trust front pipe asking 200:

otherwise i think Pacemaker now makes mild steel ceramic coated front pipes for about 200 bucks fitted.

Hey Adrian,

How did you go with that dump pipe? did you find one yet? One thing I wanted to ask you is, since you have the N1 front pipe, what sort of a dump pipe can you get or use to bolt straight up to the N1 front pipe?

Did you also have a high flow cat and a N1 cat back system Adrian because I'm still not sure how the N1 cat back system would fit to a stock cat? can it or do you need a high flow 3" cat to fit the rest of the system?

I'm still deciding what system I want on my but I think I will be definetly going fot the N1 cat back and front pipe. Do you think It's really worth doing the dump? how much extra power do you think you will get?

Thanks guys,

Gianni

i thought this thread was dead........hehe.

adrian theres two diff apex front pipes that i know of...the GT and the N1....from pics ive seen the N1 has a flexi joint and aparrently bolts straight onto the cat back exhaust eliminating the cat. the GT has no flexi joint and bolts onto the cat. does urs have a flexi joint?

i ended up getting a custom front pipe made anyways.

gianni: not too sure the dump pipe makes that much a difference on a standard turbo, obviously there'd be some improvement but not as much as u would be expecting. theres a thread about this on the forum somewhere.

Weird that you say that Mr fanny, I'm sure the last time I went into a performance shop in Abbotsford-Melbourne, the guy there had a N1 front pipe (new) and when I looked at it, actually held it, there was no flexi joint on it, just all one piece and painted in that black high temp coating paint!

I think I might only go for a N1 front pipe, high flow cat - which one I still don't know yet, and the cat back system also being the N1. I'm not to sure but I don't think that the dump pipe will make a hell of a difference??

What I'm still not sure about is will the N1 front pipe bolt straight up tp the original dump pipe or will it have to be changed anyway? As far as a high flow cat, does anyone recommend a real good one being 3" and all and will also bolt straight up to a N1 cat back system and the N1 front pipe?

One more thing Mr fanny, did your boost increase when you got your exhaust system fitted? I'm not sure if I'm still going to boost mine, to many mixed up thought's. Do you really need to fit an aftermarket boost gauge if I boost the turbo or can you continue to use the original boost guage on the dash without damaging the needle? Not sure about any of this???

Thanks for all your help guy's!

Gianni

yeah thats why i started this thread......lol. have a look at the apex site...ull see the N1 front pipe that im talkin about. how much is that N1 that u picked up anyways??

as for boost increase after exhaust fitting.......well honestly its alot smoother thru revs...less lag, but it doesnt have that anticipated kick that it used to when the stock exhaust was on. it probably is faster cause i wheel spin in second now but it doesnt feel any faster...just lounder....haha...plays with the mind abit. the front pipe should bolt straight on if its for a skyline that is and most hi flow cats and cats in genearl should fit. anyways this is the job of the exhaust guy fitting it in so u shouldn't need to think about it.:D

as for the aftermarket boost guage.....a definite if ur planing to boost it up. the standard one is abit dodgy if u ask me, doesnt really give u an exact reading. i fang it and the needle never hits 7 as its supposed too and im sure i dont have any boost leaks either.

    • (it is a brand new ported mellings pump) I suspect the lack of pressure is due to the leak. It was *not* that low in other logs of oil pressure in the past. It wasn't that hot either, but not far off.
    • Would a Mellings oil pump be a viable option  From my time with a LS, and talking to tuners and LS specialists, the "weak" OEM oil pump is one of the first things they recommend to swap out if I was going to give the engine any high RPM I opted for a Mellings high volume, with the high pressure springs and I never had a issue with it Cost wise they are not expensive in the scheme of things
    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
