Problems with Changing ECU

Hi Guys, thinking of changing my ECU, just wondering if there are any major negative effects or devices that would become disabled by using a replacement ECU such as a Power FC etc.. systems like ABS, Airbags etc... i would imagine that they would be totally seperate systems but you never know..
